It looks like the hype around President Trump’s recent executive order on marijuana rescheduling might be slightly ahead of reality. While the directive tells the Justice Department to hurry up and move cannabis to Schedule III, congressional researchers are warning that the deal isn't officially sealed yet. The DOJ actually has the power to stall, restart the process, or even walk away from it entirely. So far, Attorney General Pam Bondi and the department have been notably quiet on their next moves, leaving the industry in a bit of a waiting game.
For the everyday toker, this matters because Schedule III would finally acknowledge the medical benefits of our favorite plant and potentially lower prices by fixing unfair tax burdens on businesses. Even though it isn't full legalization, it’s a massive step toward mainstream acceptance and better research. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the DOJ follows through, as this shift would bring much-needed legitimacy and stability to the community we love.
