Kentucky’s first medical cannabis dispensary, The Post, temporarily closed seven days after opening because it ran out of products, despite strict purchase limits, reflecting high demand from the more than 23,000 medical cannabis cardholders in the state. Owner Trip Hoffman expects deliveries between January 15 and 20 and plans to reopen shortly thereafter, while Kentucky awaits the launch of 47 other licensed dispensaries.

Kentucky’s first medical cannabis dispensary temporarily closed just seven
days after it opened after running out of products, Spectrum News reports.
Trip Hoffman, owner of The Post, located in Beaver Dam, told Spectrum News
that he had imposed strict purchase limits – one unit per person – to
extend the supply, but still sold out in a week.

“You have people here in tears, so happy that we’re finally open, that they
can get legal, regulated, medical-grade products for their needs. We were
happy to be a part of that.” — Hoffman to Spectrum News

Hoffman said he expected to get deliveries between January 15 and 20 and
that the dispensary would open “shortly thereafter.”

There are currently more than 23,000 medical cannabis cards issued in
Kentucky, but currently only The Post is operational. The commonwealth has
issued 48 dispensary licenses. They are expected to come online in the
coming months.

In an Instagram post, the dispensary called the week “absolutely
incredible.”

“Your support, kindness, and trust mean the world to us,” the post
states. “We’re beyond grateful for the amazing turnout and the opportunity
to serve this community.”
