- Trump Pollster Says Texas Hemp Ban Faces Bipartisan Voter Opposition | Toker's Guide
Texas voters across party lines oppose a bill banning hemp products with THC. A poll by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates found that Democrats, independents, and a plurality of Republicans don't want the governor to sign it. The bill could hurt the legislature's image. < Back Trump Pollster Says Texas Hemp Ban Faces Bipartisan Voter Opposition Jun 18, 2025 Source: Staff Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Voters in Texas are sending a loud and clear message to Governor Greg Abbott: don't touch our hemp. A recent survey by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates reveals that a massive 70% of Texans want hemp-derived THC to stay legal and regulated rather than facing an outright ban. This isn't just a one-sided issue either; the data shows strong bipartisan pushback against a proposed bill that would essentially wipe out the state's booming hemp industry. Even a plurality of Republicans joined the majority of Democrats and independents in urging a veto. For the everyday toker, this is a huge deal. Hemp products have provided a legal, accessible bridge for many in the Lone Star State, and losing them would be a massive step backward for cannabis freedom. It shows that even in historically conservative areas, the community is waking up to the benefits of the plant. If the Governor listens to the people instead of the prohibitionists, it’ll be a major win for local businesses and consumers alike who just want safe, legal access to their favorite products. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - From Pickles To Plants: Vlasic is an American Success Story | Toker's Guide
Willy Vlasic is carrying forward his family's legacy of quality and integrity by transitioning from the famous pickle brand to the cannabis industry with Vlasic Bioscience. The company focuses on innovation and social impact, notably raising over $150,000 for cannabis prisoners through its annual charity golf tournament, The Vlasic Classic. < Back From Pickles To Plants: Vlasic is an American Success Story Feb 21, 2026 Source: Melissa Reid Cannabis Now Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link For generations, the Vlasic name has stood for consistency and quality. First through a Detroit dairy, then as America’s most famous pickle jar with its iconic smiling stork. Entrepreneur Willy Vlasic is carrying that entrepreneurial legacy forward in his own way for a new generation with a potent combination of business acumen and ethical ethos he inherited from his forefathers. As the head of Vlasic Bioscience, Willy applies the same family values that built one of the country’s most enduring food brands to his hemp and CBD company, which is proudly rooted in innovation and social impact. Growing up in Michigan, Vlasic says he didn’t think much about his surname until classmates connected him to the pickle brand. “We were the pickle people,” he says. “When people asked if we were ‘*that* Vlasic,’ half the time I’d say yes, and the other half I’d say ‘no, I wish.’” His great-grandfather, Joseph Vlasic, famously turned a family dairy into one of the country’s most recognizable food companies. “He was such a smart, generous businessman,” Vlasic says. “He took amazing care of his people, donated millions to charity and built a strong family reputation—especially in Detroit. We always felt like we had to hold ourselves to a higher standard.” Those expectations—integrity, professionalism, respect—shaped Vlasic’s approach to business. “If we embarrassed the family, my grandfather heard about it,” he says. “Those values carry over into everything I do now.” Vlasic says his entry into cannabis was anything but corporate. In his late teens, he earned his Michigan medical card and struck a deal with his skeptical parents: If he passed a 90-day drug test, he could start a legal grow in their basement. He did, and this pivotal moment set him on course to a lifelong career in cannabis. A friend soon invited him to Mama J’s, a 4,000-plant facility in Washington state, where he learned cultivation from the ground up. “They put me through the ringer,” Vlasic says. “I scrubbed floors, trimmed, packaged—every job you can imagine.” At 21, while still in college, he became Michigan’s youngest licensed cultivator, authorized to grow 6,000 plants under the state’s medical program. “That experience was everything,” he says. “You can’t fake knowledge in this business. It’s the difference between surviving and scaling.” After several years of balancing cultivation and business development in Michigan, Vlasic began exploring how hemp and CBD could open a legal path for expansion and a new opportunity to build something lasting. About five years ago, a conversation with business partner Adam Rosenberg changed everything. “You’ve got this incredible family name with a history of trust and quality—why not bring that same credibility into cannabis?” Adam asked Vlasic. Together, they pitched Vlasic’s father, Rick, on the vision for a transparent, high-integrity cannabis and wellness company that could live up to the family name. “Adam was the one who sold him,” Vlasic admits. “He showed how we could take that legacy of quality and apply it to something new and meaningful.” At first, Rick wasn’t convinced. “My dad thought it was both the best and worst idea ever. He said, ‘We’re never calling it Vlasic—over my dead body!’ and went back and forth on the concept, eventually agreeing that this was an opportunity worth exploring.” Together, they founded Vlasic Labs before the pandemic, starting as a CBD extraction lab, then expanding into CBN conversion and eventually a full consumer wellness brand under Vlasic Bioscience, the family’s parent company. “We’ve had exits in Michigan and Missouri, and now we’re selling Vlasic flower in multiple states,” Vlasic says. “The CBD line ships nationwide. It’s surreal.” Today, Vlasic Labs CBD operates alongside Vlasic Flower, Vlasic Extracts and Schedule One, all under the Vlasic Bioscience umbrella. “Doing good business and building the brand the right way matters more than making a quick buck,” Vlasic says. “The Vlasic name means something; it’s a seal of integrity.” For Willy Vlasic, creating a company with his family name also meant creating one with a conscience. “If we’re going to profit from cannabis, we have to give back to the people still suffering because of it,” he says. That belief led to the making of The Vlasic Classic in 2023, a charity golf tournament that’s grown into one of the most talked-about events in cannabis. “The first one was small—maybe ten teams,” he says. “We donated to a local food pantry, but I knew I wanted to support something more connected to the industry.” That connection came when he met Donte West, a formerly incarcerated cannabis prisoner from Kansas and advocate with the Last Prisoner Project. “I heard his story and learned what he went through,” Vlasic says. “I asked if we could make Last Prisoner Project the official charity of the event. He was all in.” Each year, the tournament has grown—bringing in more players, sponsors and freed cannabis prisoners. Through West, Willy connected with Bill and Jeff Levers, a.k.a. the “Beard Bros,” behind Freedom Grow, a nonprofit providing commissary and re-entry support for inmates. In 2024, Freedom Grow joined the Classic as an official partner, followed by The Weldon Project, founded by Weldon Angelos, who served 55 years for cannabis before being pardoned. “Now we’ve got all three—Last Prisoner Project, Freedom Grow and The Weldon Project,” Vlasic says. “To date, we’ve raised more than $150,000 for these causes and we’re not slowing down. We’ll keep doing it until every cannabis prisoner is free.” Carrying a family name that once stood for pickles into a space still burdened by stigma comes with pressure. “We have way more to lose than most people do,” Vlasic says, who sees clear parallels between his grandfather’s early business and the modern cannabis landscape: risk, hard work and a relentless focus on quality. “They built their brand through consistency,” he says. “That’s what we’re doing—holding ourselves to that same standard, just in a different industry.” After a decade in cannabis, Vlasic’s philosophy remains grounded. “Even if your first investment doesn’t work out, if you walk away with new skills, it’s worth it,” he says. “We’re not here to make a quick dollar. We’re here to build something that lasts—something that helps people and honors where we came from.” The post From Pickles To Plants: Vlasic is an American Success Story appeared first on Cannabis Now. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - What You Need to Know About Decarboxylation | Toker's Guide
Decarboxylation is essential for enjoying cannabis, a process where carbon dioxide leaves a molecule, affecting its weight. Heating, light, and oxygen can cause this. The mass lost can be calculated if the initial and final weights are known. Decarboxylation is crucial for understanding cannabis as medicine, as it converts cannabinoid acids like THCA into THC. Most cannabinoids lose approximately 87.7% of their mass during decarboxylation. This is vital for those making edibles or advertising raw cannabis products, requiring accurate labeling. THC is the primary intoxicant and has therapeutic uses, while THCA is a strong anti-inflammatory. CBD aids with anxiety and breast cancer, and CBDA can slow the spread of breast cancer cells. CBG has anti-inflammatory properties for IBS. Mass loss isn't a conversion rate; it's a theoretical maximum, so labeling is important. < Back What You Need to Know About Decarboxylation Dec 17, 2024 Source: Marco Troiani Cannabis Now Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Decarboxylation, which is an essential action in enjoying cannabis flowers and edibles, is a process in which carbon dioxide (CO2) leaves a stable molecule and floats off as a gas. Atoms in a molecule can be thought of like billiard balls, with each one having a size, weight, and exact position. As these atoms float away, the substance left behind will become lighter, like a dry towel being lighter than that same towel soaking wet. The idea is that as the CO2 leaves, the weight left behind is reduced. Decarboxylation typically occurs by heating, but can also be caused by exposure to certain frequencies of light, and certain substances like molecular oxygen in the air. If the weight of the molecule before and after its decarboxylation is known, then a percent of mass lost in decarboxylation can be calculated. If the CO2 contributes 10 percent of the weight of a molecule, than 90 percent of the mass remains after decarboxylation. This would mean that continuously heating 100 grams of this substance would eventually yield 90 grams of the decarboxylated substance, as the remaining 10 grams represent the weight of CO2 which gassed off. *How Does Decarboxylation Affect Cannabinoids?* Decarboxylation of cannabinoids and cannabis products is very crucial to understanding the power of cannabis as medicine. The cannabis plant only has the ability to produce cannabinoid acids, like THCA, and THC is only created by decarboxylation outside the plant. This decarboxylation is usually done by fire when smoking, or by baking in edibles. Most cannabinoids lose approximately 87.7 percent of their mass upon decarboxylation. This means that if you had 100 grams of crystalline isolate of a cannabinoid acid, such as THCA, after decarboxylation you would have 87.7 grams left of THC. This is important for people decarboxylating their cannabinoids themselves, such as producers of cannabis-infused edible products and hash oil producer that wish to sell decarboxylated oil. This is also important for advertisers of raw cannabis products such as cured cannabis flower, who must either report the value of the cannabinoid acid directly observed by the testing lab, use the theoretical conversion, or display both. This labeling issue with raw flower is not as easy as it seems at first glance. Let’s consider a typical example of THC-dominant cannabis. The lab will test the flower and find 26 percent THCA and 3 percent THC. This is because some of the cannabinoid acids produced by the plant are decarboxylated by air and sun before harvesting and curing. The smaller the amount of THC observed directly by the lab typically indicates that the cultivator has submitted fresh cannabis that has been protected from light and exposure. A very high THC content indicates that the cannabis flower is not as fresh and been more exposed. Now the dispensary has to either advertise two numbers, 26 percent and 3 percent, or advertise one theoretically calculated number, 25.8 percent, or both. Both allow the patient to access the greatest amount of information and be the best informed, while also reducing liability on the cannabis business involved in label making. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a well-known cannabinoid for being the primary intoxicant and euphoriant of cannabis. THC is also one of the most practical and safe treatments for neuropathic, chronic, and other types of pain. THC is effective in addressing both the immunological and symptom component of multiple sclerosis (MS). Despite the fact that THCA is not an intoxicant, it is a powerful medicine. THCA is one of the strongest anti-inflammatory agents in cannabis. Smokers receive very little to none of this cannabinoid, due to its decomposition in the smoking process. THCA is an anti-inflammatory agent, and according to one study, a more powerful neuroprotective agent than THC. THCA is a powerful COX-1 and COX-2 antagonist, similar to aspirin and ibuprofen, but with far less toxicity to the liver. The effects of THCA and THC reflect the diversity of action on the human body a cannabinoid and its precursor acid can have. The other cannabinoids, CBD, CBG, CBC, and THCV all have acid forms which have distinct effects on human health. *Cannabidiol* (CBD) has been shown to be an effective medicine for people suffering from anxiety. What CBD has also been shown to be effective at fighting is breast cancer cells. Many of these studies find that CBD promotes apoptosis, or cell suicide, in breast cancer cells while leaving the healthy cells unaffected. *Cannabidiolic acid* (CBDA) is CBD’s acid precursor from raw cannabis flower. CBDA has also been shown to fight human breast cancer, but in a different way. Whereas CBD causes apoptosis in breast cancer cells, CBDA has been shown to slow or stop metastasis of breast cancer cells by arresting their motility, or ability to move throughout the body. This evidence would indicate that a breast cancer patient may want to talk to their doctor about dual CBD/CBDA therapy, taking both decarboxylated CBD and raw CBDA together. *Cannabigerol* (CBG) has been shown to have some potent anti-inflammatory properties that are particularly applicable in inflammatory bowel disease (IBS). Additionally, CBG has been shown to have some properties not known among many other cannabinoids, such as an ability to interact with human adrenal receptors and serotonin receptors. Currently, more studies need to be done on cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) in isolation from CBG to get an understanding what, if any, difference there are between the cannabinoid and its precursor acid on human health. It is important to note that the mass loss is not a conversion rate. Mass loss assumes that all of a substance will decarboxylate and calculates how the mass will change. An accurate answer must account for how much of the cannabinoid will decarboxylate. Studies indicate that 30-70 percent of cannabinoids undergo decarboxylation under standard smoking conditions. This is why our calculations are only a theoretical maximum, and are not a result with the same standing as those directly observed in the plant. This is also why it can be very important to label your theoretical calculations as such, and provide all original values provided by lab results, as a means of reducing liability upon your business. With the near endless number of different cannabinoids that cannabis and hemp plants can produce, it’s understandable that scientists would have a quickly growing interest in these very versatile plants. One such professional is JJ Coombs, a board-certified pharmacist with over 15 years in the cannabis industry in various roles. He’s also the founder of Mellow Fellow, a South Florida-based hemp-derived cannabis company launched in January of 2021 that prioritizes proper formulation in every step of their operations. While other brands in this rapidly growing space may heavily rely on pomp and circumstance or quantity of products over quality, Mellow Fellow invests far more heavily in the many fields of cannabis science that go into the production processes of their sprawling menu. “Chemistry is a huge building block of everything we do,” explains Coombs. “Every step of the process relies on a deep understanding of the science behind cannabinoids and terpenes. By applying chemistry principles, we can precisely control potency, purity, consistency and flavor profiles across every product.” It’s this strong emphasis on cannabis science and botanical research that allows Mellow Fellow to have such a diverse selection, and not just a large diversity of product types but a rich diversity of desired feelings, too. *A Product for Every Feeling* Just in the vape cartridge category alone, if you desire more of a sativa-like experience, then the Motivation or Charged blend of the Terp Sauce cartridges are perfect candidates. If you prefer the calming effects that indica-based terpenes and cannabinoids usually carry, then the Tranquility or Dream blends of the Live Resin cartridges would both be fitting contenders. And if some romance-minded consumers wish for a more, let’s say intimate experience, Mellow Fellow also provides the Desire blend in multiple vape cartridge brands. “Through chemistry, we can blend cannabinoids and terpenes to match your desired outcomes, whether it’s energy, relaxation or creativity,” Coombs shares. “By understanding the ways in which compounds can work with each other, we can lock in natural flavors and make the experience more enjoyable. Not to mention, chemical testing and refinement removes impurities and makes way for clean and safe products.” *Cannabinoids Galore…* This strong focus and investment in science has paid off, with Mellow Fellow offering a wide range of products featuring diverse cannabinoid profiles and effects. One prime example is the robustly formulated THCh disposable vapes, with memorably strains such as the energetic Green Goblin and relaxing terpene-heavy White Truffle. Derived from a rare and lesser-known cannabinoid, these THCh disposable vapes are formulated for experienced consumers seeking distinctive cannabinoid profiles. With deep subject-matter expertise across the team, Mellow Fellow approaches product development with more sophistication than relying solely on sativa or indica distinctions. “The hope was to provide customers with specific, nuanced experiences that go beyond the scope of sativa, indica and hybrid,” Cooms says. “From concept to formulation to extraction, we’ve managed to curate 20 specialized, proprietary blends that do just that.” And for customers who may be somewhat sensitive to smoke or vapor consumption, Mellow Fellow’s edible and beverage offerings are plentiful. Within their vast edible product collection, several different cannabinoids—from CBG to the relaxation-centered CBN to even the lesser-known cannabinoid THCp—are utilized and featured across the catalog. Beyond just the Live Resin and Delta 9-based M-Fusions brand of gummies, the complex cannabinoid and terpene blends offered in the vape cartridge categories are also used in Mellow Fellow’s edible brands. Consumers can choose from Energy, Rest, Focus, Relief and Happy. Every desired mood and effect is represented throughout the Mellow Fellow catalog, particularly within their edible products. As the brand moves forward, this emphasis and strict focus on formulation and product biodiversity will remain front and center at Mellow Fellow. Coombs emphasizes this, sharing that “While some brands hoped to address consumer needs by relying on strain selection, we decided to push the envelope by investing in our already established pharmaceutical and chemistry expertise, homing in on cannabinoid formulation.” The post Mellow Fellow: Scientifically Powered Cannabinoids appeared first on Cannabis Now. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - AMA Study Finds Psilocybin More Effective Than Nicotine Patches for Quitting Smoking | Toker's Guide
A study published by the American Medical Association found that a single dose of psilocybin combined with therapy is significantly more effective for long-term smoking cessation than nicotine patches. Researchers suggest the psychedelic works through psychological changes like enhanced flexibility and self-concept, offering a promising, unique approach to treating various substance use disorders. < Back AMA Study Finds Psilocybin More Effective Than Nicotine Patches for Quitting Smoking Mar 10, 2026 Source: Kyle Jaeger Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link It looks like magic mushrooms are proving to be much more than just a recreational trip. A new study published by the American Medical Association shows that just a single dose of psilocybin, paired with therapy, is way more effective at helping people kick a smoking habit than traditional nicotine patches. We are talking about a massive difference in success rates—smokers using psilocybin were over six times more likely to stay smoke-free after six months compared to those using the patch. Instead of just masking withdrawals, the mushrooms seem to shift a person's mindset, providing the mental flexibility needed to break deep-rooted patterns. This is not just about tobacco; it is part of a growing wave of evidence that psychedelics can tackle various forms of addiction. For our community, this is a huge win. It highlights how natural, plant-based alternatives are outperforming standard pharmaceutical tools. As we push for more access and legalization, studies like this provide the hard data needed to prove these substances are essential for wellness and recovery. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - New Proposal Could Give States the Power to Save Your Favorite Hemp Treats | Toker's Guide
Senators Rand Paul, Amy Klobuchar, and Joni Ernst introduced the Hemp Safety Enforcement Act to empower states to regulate hemp products independently. < Back New Proposal Could Give States the Power to Save Your Favorite Hemp Treats Apr 17, 2026 Source: Staff Cannabis Business Times Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link There is some serious movement on the federal front that could change the game for anyone who enjoys hemp-derived goodies. A bipartisan group in the Senate, including Rand Paul and Amy Klobuchar, just introduced the Hemp Safety Enforcement Act. While that sounds like a mouthful of legal jargon, the core idea is actually pretty awesome: it gives individual states the power to "opt out" of a looming federal crackdown on hemp products. Basically, there is a federal ban on many intoxicating hemp products scheduled to kick in later this year. If this new bill passes, states that already have their own smart regulations in place—like age limits and safety testing—can choose to keep their local markets open instead of being forced to shut them down by Washington. This is huge because it protects the small businesses, farmers, and craft brewers who have spent years building a safe and accessible culture. For those of us who rely on these products for wellness or just a better alternative to alcohol, this news is a breath of fresh air. It means your favorite local CBD shop or that neighborhood taproom serving hemp-infused drinks might not have to vanish. It shifts the control back to the local level where people actually understand the community and the benefits these plants provide. While this is making its way through the legislative process, it’s a good reminder to stay informed about your local laws. Supporting brands that prioritize third-party lab testing and transparent labeling is more important than ever. If you find a product you love, check the QR code on the packaging for a Certificate of Analysis (COA) to ensure it meets the safety standards these senators are trying to protect. This bill is a major step toward a future where common sense and accessibility lead the way, keeping the plant we love in the hands of the people. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co.
