Alaska Psychedelics Legalization Campaign Begins Gathering Signatures
Sep 26, 2025

Petitioners for an Alaska campaign to legalize psilocybin, psilocin, DMT,
and non-peyote mescaline have started to collect signatures to pose the
question to voters in next year’s election, Marijuana Moment reports.
The Alaska Natural Medicine campaign kicked off its signature collection
effort last week, utilizing both paid and volunteer petitioners. The
campaign, which has to collect 35,000 valid signatures to qualify for the
2026 ballot, is advocating for a “grow, gather, gift” model of legalization
prioritizing the personal use, cultivation, and sharing of psychedelics.
If passed by voters, the measure would also establish “licensed healing
centers where adults can receive supervised natural medicine services.”
David Karabelnikoff, a policy advisor and Alaska Natural Medicine steering
committee member, said in the report that he’s personally encountered
“support from, surprisingly, a wide variety of people.”
“We found support from both conservative people as well as progressives or
liberals. Alaska has a unique balance — also with this really strong
libertarian spirit up here, where, if you’re staying in your own lane and
not hurting anyone, then we kind of feel like the government should stay
out of our business.” — Karabelnikoff, via Marijuana Moment
Public consumption of the psychedelic substances would be prohibited under
the measure.
