Flower products are the most popular in Virginia's medical cannabis market, making up 47% of sales. Concentrates account for 32%, edibles for 15%, and shake for 5%. The data comes from the state's new seed-to-sale tracking system, provided by METRC, which launched two months ago. In July and August, the system recorded 17,786 harvested plants, $29,942,138 in sales, and 256,432 transactions. Virginia is one of 23 U.S. states using METRC to track cannabis data. The Cannabis Control Authority plans to create a public dashboard to host the data.

Flower products are the most popular category in Virginia’s medical
cannabis market, totaling 47% of sales, according to the data from the
commonwealth’s Cannabis Control Authority (CCA), which found
concentrates represent 32% of sales, edibles represent 15% of sales, and
shake comprises 5% of sales.

The data comes two months after seed-to-sale tracking launched in the
state, provided by METRC. In a statement, Jamie Patten, acting head and
chief administrative officer of the CCA, said the system gives regulators a
“real-time view of medical cannabis across Virginia.”

“We can see which products are popular, track plant growth, and understand
sales trends. That information helps us protect patients, prevent illegal
products from entering the market, and make smart decisions for the
program’s future.” — Patten in a press release

In July and August, the system recorded 17,786 harvested plants,
$29,942,138 in sales, and 256,432 transactions.

Before the launch of METRC, Virginia cannabis sales data had been limited;
however, the CCA notes that it plans to create a public dashboard on its
website to host the data.

Virginia chose METRC last November. In all, 23 U.S. states are using METRC
to track cannabis product data and sales, according to the company website,
along with Washington D.C. and Guam.
