Marijuana Moment

A group of Republican lawmakers is making a desperate, last-minute push to keep marijuana in the same legal category as heroin. A total of 46 House and Senate members sent letters to President Trump, begging him to ditch plans to move cannabis to Schedule III. These politicians—led by the usual suspects like Pete Sessions and Andy Harris—are recycling the same tired reefer madness arguments about endangering children and helping cartels. They are especially focused on stopping cannabis businesses from getting federal tax relief, calling them addiction-for-profit shops.

Despite this drama, it looks like Trump is still leaning toward an executive order that could finally address rescheduling, fix banking hurdles, and even expand medical access for seniors. For everyday tokers, this matters because moving past Schedule I is a massive step toward ending the federal stigma. While rescheduling isn't full legalization, killing the 280E tax penalty helps your favorite local dispensaries stay in business and stay competitive. It is high time we leave these prohibitionist scares in the past.
