GOP Leaders Face Criticism for Blocking Medical Cannabis Access for Veterans

Marijuana Moment
It is a tough break for our veterans this week as GOP leaders in Congress stripped away a key provision that would have finally allowed VA doctors to recommend medical cannabis in legal states. Despite the amendment gaining traction in both the House and Senate earlier this year, it was ultimately blocked from the final spending bill signed by President Trump. This move keeps a restrictive VA directive in place, forcing those who served to look outside their primary healthcare system for alternative relief. To make matters worse, the same legislation included language that could potentially re-criminalize many hemp-derived THC products.
For the cannabis community, this is a frustrating reminder of the disconnect between public support and federal policy. Veterans deserve the same medical autonomy as any other citizen, and blocking this access only prolongs unnecessary hurdles for those seeking natural wellness options. It matters because every step backward for veteran access is a step backward for the normalization and accessibility of the plant for everyone. Keeping the pressure on D.C. remains vital for true progress.
