The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) raided 18 retailers last week, seizing over 340 pounds of flower, 43,800 pre-rolls, 35,600 vapes, 84,480 THC and psilocybin edibles, and $35,430 in cash. Two individuals were arrested for attempting to move products and evade law enforcement, and a truck transporting THC products was seized. KBI Director Tony Mattivi called the shops' violations of the state's Controlled Substances Act "brazen," describing them as "nothing but weed dealers in strip malls." He noted a growing acceptance of CBD and THC products since the Farm Bill, and that shops have been pushing the limits. Cannabis in any form, including hemp-derived products, remains illegal in Kansas. State Attorney General Kris Kobach announced an end to the period of lax enforcement against marijuana and THC laws in Kansas, with the KBI taking the lead in identifying brazen sellers.

Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) raids at 18 retailers in the state
last week led to the seizure of more than 340 pounds of flower, 43,800
pre-rolls, 35,600 vapes, 84,480 THC and psilocybin edibles, and $35,430 in
cash, the Kansas Reflector reports.

The crackdown netted two arrests of individuals attempting to move the
products while trying to evade law enforcement and the seizure of a truck
that was transporting THC products removed from the shelves of shops
targeted in the law enforcement action.

During a press conference announcing the raids last Wednesday, KBI Director
Tony Mattivi called the shops’ violations of the state’s Controlled
Substances Act “brazen.” According to a Reflector report, Mattivi described
the targeted shops as “nothing but weed dealers in strip malls.”

“Since the Farm Bill passed, there’s been a growing acceptance of some of
these products, whether they’re CBD or THC. Over time, these shops, I
think, have pushed the envelope and pushed the envelope and pushed the
envelope.” — Mattivi via the Reflector

Cannabis in any form – including products derived from hemp – remains
illegal in Kansas. Last week’s raids targeted shops in Abilene, Concordia,
Great Bend, Independence, McPherson, Pratt, Salina, Sedan, Topeka, Ulysses,
and Wichita.

During the press conference, state Attorney General Kris Kobach said that
“In recent years, enforcement of [Kansas] laws against marijuana and THC in
Kansas have been intermittently or, in some jurisdictions, not enforced at
all.”

“And so, this is an announcement that that period of lax enforcement is
ending,” Kobach said, “and the KBI has taken the lead in identifying places
that have become particularly brazen in their selling of marijuana
products.”
