Marijuana Moment

The federal government is playing a bit of a shell game with rescheduling. A new Congressional Research Service report recently pulled back on its confidence, removing language that previously called a move to Schedule III "likely." While the feds hesitate, states are busy: South Dakota just legalized synthetic psilocybin (if it gets federal approval), while Colorado lawmakers are pushing back against a proposed cannabis tax hike. Meanwhile, new research is giving us more reasons to smile, finding no link between regular cannabis use and cognitive decline.

This matters because it shows that while the science is increasingly on our side, the federal bureaucracy is still a major hurdle. For everyday tokers, the CRS report's shift is a reminder that we can’t take rescheduling for granted—the fight for fair access continues. However, seeing states like Colorado protect consumers from higher taxes is a win for community affordability. It’s a mixed bag of news, but the underlying trend toward evidence-based policy and sensible regulation is definitely something to stay optimistic about.
