Ohio agencies are reminding residents to stay safe during Independence Day
celebrations—particularly around fireworks, alcohol, and public cannabis
use.

Ohioans are gearing up for July 4 celebrations and the State Fire Marshal
Kevin Reardon warns against risky behavior—last year saw 135
fireworks-related incidents and 32 structure fires, causing $760,000 in
damage. Fireworks, including sparklers that burn at 2,000°F, pose serious
safety risks. Officials advise checking local ordinances, wearing
protective eyewear, keeping water nearby, and never using fireworks while
impaired  .

Alcohol is also under scrutiny. The Division of Liquor Control emphasizes
responsible drinking: stay hydrated, eat, and plan a sober ride home to
avoid mishaps.

Ohio’s Division of Cannabis Control adds a warning about public marijuana
use. Non-medical cannabis in public is a minor misdemeanor; smoking or
vaping indoors or near minors can lead to penalties. Superintendent Jim
Canepa reminds adults to exercise judgment and keep products away from
kids  .

Local communities like Bellefontaine have extra steps to ensure safety.
Their police chief reminds residents that fireworks possession and use
without a licensed exhibitor is banned inside city limits. Alcohol must be
treated responsibly, and fireworks complaints should be reported via
non-emergency channels, reserving 911 for real emergencies  .
