A campaign in Oregon is working to legalize cannabis social lounges and has gathered enough signatures to move to the next stage of the process. The campaign needs to collect about 120,000 signatures to qualify for the November 2026 ballot. If passed, the measure would legalize state-licensed cannabis consumption lounges. In other news, state officials are challenging a ruling on labor peace agreements for marijuana businesses, and a federal lawsuit could expand access to psilocybin for homebound patients. Additionally, a new law allows marijuana businesses to offer samples at trade events.

Oregon tokers are one step closer to having a legal spot to light up with friends. The Oregon Cannabis Cafe Coalition recently hit its first major milestone, gathering enough signatures to move their social lounge initiative toward the 2026 ballot. If the group can collect 120,000 more signatures, voters will decide on a plan to license dedicated consumption spaces for adults 21 and over. These spots would allow vaping and smoking but would remain alcohol and tobacco-free, focusing purely on the herb and good vibes.

While the lounges wouldn't sell flower directly, they would provide a much-needed safe harbor for the community to gather. This is huge for the culture because it moves cannabis out of the shadows and into a social setting, much like a neighborhood bar. For many enthusiasts—especially those in rentals or public housing where use is banned—this measure provides a practical solution for legal, social consumption. It's about time we had a place to congregate and celebrate the plant without looking over our shoulders.
