People who used psychedelics during the COVID-19 pandemic showed improvements in mental health. A study found that psychedelics and marijuana users showed improvements in depression, anxiety, and overall mental health. Another study found that high doses of LSD led to greater reductions in depression. Psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy showed significant reductions in alcohol consumption and high smoking cessation rates.

Marijuana Moment

A massive study from Imperial College London recently shed some light on how psychedelics and cannabis helped folks navigate the heavy mental toll of the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers looked at data from over 377,000 people and found that while most drug users generally reported lower mental health scores, those who combined psychedelics with cannabis actually saw their depression and anxiety levels improve over time, eventually matching the scores of those who don’t use drugs at all. Interestingly, these benefits didn't show up for those using only cannabis, suggesting a unique synergy when psychedelics are in the mix.

This research is a huge win for our community because it validates what many of us have known instinctively: these plants and fungi are powerful tools for resilience during high-stress "global crisis" moments. For regular users, this adds scientific weight to the argument for expanding legal access to psychedelic-assisted therapies and high-quality cannabis. Seeing the UK government help fund this work is a hopeful sign that the medical world is finally getting serious about the holistic healing potential of our favorite natural remedies.
