The Supreme Court is about to tackle a major question for the community: can the government strip away your Second Amendment rights just because you enjoy some green? A group of heavy-hitting gun advocacy organizations just filed a brief in the U.S. vs. Hemani case, calling for an end to the federal ban on firearm ownership for cannabis consumers. Their logic is simple and fair: historical laws only ever stopped people from being armed while they were actively intoxicated, not for being a responsible, sober adult who happens to use a socially accepted substance like alcohol or weed.
This is a massive deal for regular tokers because it targets the unfair choice many have been forced to make between their legal medicine and their constitutional rights. If the Court sides with us, it would finally end the hypocritical standard that treats cannabis users like dangerous criminals while alcohol drinkers get a pass. It is a huge step toward full legitimacy and shows that the legal walls around our community are finally starting to crumble.
