Big moves are happening down in Texas as the state officially greenlights a significant expansion of its medical marijuana program. The Department of Public Safety just finalized rules that will boost the number of licensed dispensaries from a mere three to fifteen. This rollout includes a competitive licensing process and new security standards for satellite locations, making it much easier for patients across the Lone Star State to access their medicine. Even better, the list of qualifying conditions has grown to include chronic pain and traumatic brain injuries, while end-of-life patients now have a legal path to use cannabis.
For the local community, this is a massive win for accessibility. Moving from three shops to fifteen means shorter drives and more reliable options for patients who have been stuck in a very restrictive system for years. While Texas still has a long way to go compared to other states, seeing the program actually grow to meet patient demand is a huge step in the right direction for cannabis culture in the South.
