Marijuana Moment

Virginia is finally stepping up for workers who enjoy a bit of herb in their downtime. The state's Department of Labor and Industry just dropped new guidelines that basically tell bosses they can't fire or punish employees just for testing positive for THC, provided they aren't actually high on the clock. This is a huge win for medical patients and recreational users alike, as it codifies protections that were previously a bit of a gray area, especially for public sector workers like teachers and maintenance crews.

While there are still some hoops—like exceptions for federal contractors and specific safety-sensitive defense roles—the overall vibe is shifting toward respecting personal freedom. With a new pro-legalization governor incoming and a legislative blueprint for retail sales in the works for 2026, the Commonwealth is moving away from the "weed limbo" it’s been stuck in since 2021. For everyday tokers, this means less anxiety about losing a paycheck over a weekend session, bringing much-needed peace of mind to the workplace.
