- Study Shows AI Can Help Breeders Design New Cannabis Strains | Toker's Guide
A new study suggests marijuana breeders can use AI and machine learning, incorporating genetic, growth, environmental, and chemical data, to simulate thousands of potential crosses and enable "speed breeding," which could significantly reduce the current six-to-eight-year breeding cycle time while improving chemical consistency. < Back Study Shows AI Can Help Breeders Design New Cannabis Strains Dec 10, 2025 Source: Aaron Houston Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link It looks like artificial intelligence is moving into the garden, and it’s a game-changer for strain development. A recent study highlights how breeders are now using machine learning to predict how specific genetic crosses will turn out before a single seed is even planted. By analyzing environmental data and chemical profiles, AI can simulate thousands of potential outcomes, slashing the traditional six-to-eight-year breeding cycle down to a fraction of the time. This tech isn't just about speed; it’s about dialing in consistent cannabinoid and terpene profiles while building plant resilience. While there are hurdles like data quality and legal research restrictions, the potential for "speed breeding" is massive. For the average toker, this is exciting because it means a more diverse and reliable menu at the dispensary. Instead of playing the lottery with inconsistent batches, AI-driven cultivation promises high-quality, reproducible flower that hits the mark every time. It’s a huge win for the community, ensuring our favorite effects are preserved while new, exotic profiles hit the shelves faster than ever. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - Military Veteran Sues Federal Government Over Cannabis-Related Issues | Toker's Guide
Military Veteran Sues Feds, Claiming He Was Wrongly Detained After Immigration Raid At California Marijuana Farm < Back Military Veteran Sues Federal Government Over Cannabis-Related Issues Jul 19, 2025 Source: Marijuana Moment Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link A U.S. Army veteran is taking the federal government to court after a nightmare experience during an immigration raid at a California cannabis farm. George Retes, a security guard at Glass House Farms, was reportedly dragged from his vehicle, pepper-sprayed, and held for three days without access to medical care or his family—despite being a U.S. citizen. The raid, conducted by ICE and CBP, targeted alleged labor violations and undocumented workers, but Retes’ lawsuit claims he was wrongly caught in the crossfire of aggressive federal enforcement. While the parent company maintains they follow all hiring laws, the incident highlights a messy overlap between federal immigration policy and the legal cannabis industry. For the everyday toker, this is a sobering reminder of the legal "gray zone" our community still navigates. Even at a licensed facility, federal oversight can lead to intense, sometimes mistaken, enforcement actions. Supporting transparency and legal protections for industry workers is vital because a safe, respected workforce is the backbone of the reliable, high-quality access we all enjoy. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - New Analysis Calls Rescheduling a Transitional Step Needing Banking and Justice Reforms | Toker's Guide
A new academic paper in the journal Cannabis & Cannabinoid Research argues that while rescheduling marijuana to Schedule III is a historic shift that recognizes its medical value and reduces research barriers, it remains a transitional step. The authors emphasize that this move does not legalize marijuana, authorize interstate commerce, or address social equity and criminal justice reforms, all of which require further congressional action. < Back New Analysis Calls Rescheduling a Transitional Step Needing Banking and Justice Reforms Mar 13, 2026 Source: Kyle Jaeger Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link A new academic analysis highlights that while moving marijuana to Schedule III is a massive win for science and the industry, it is only a "transitional" step. Researchers from the University of California argue that this long-awaited shift finally recognizes cannabis as medicine, but it does not actually legalize it federally. While it will provide major tax relief for dispensaries by removing the 280E burden and making it easier for scientists to study the plant, it doesn’t automatically fix issues like banking access, interstate commerce, or social equity. This is a huge deal for the community because it signals the end of the "medically useless" stigma that has held back progress for decades. For everyday tokers, this means better-researched products and more stable local businesses, but the fight for full freedom and criminal justice reform still requires Congress to step up. We are moving in the right direction, but treat Schedule III as the starting line for true, comprehensive cannabis reform rather than the finish line. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. As the mainstream acceptance of cannabis use rumbles ever forward, families and friends may gather around the Christmas tree vaporizing top-shelf cannabis. Those who choose to honor their health should not have to hide their enjoyment of our favorite flower. Those who choose to honor their health and turn away from the mulled wines and spiked egg nog this year should not have to hide their enjoyment of our favorite flower. That signature scent of most flowers and plants, including the pine tree propped in the living room, originates from terpenes. As master horticulturalist Ed Rosenthal explains in his Big Book of Buds series, terpenes are also the components of cannabis responsible for the different effects and odors of the many varieties of marijuana. “Pinene is the familiar odor associated with pine trees and their resin,” Rosenthal writes in the Big Book of Buds, volume 4. “Pinene probably gives true skunk varieties, the ones that stink like an animal, much of their odor… The smoke seems to expand in your lungs and the high comes on very quickly since a high percentage of the substance will pass to the bloodstream and brain.” Pinene, which is most dominantly found in cannabis as the compound alpha-pinene, is the terpene that has established a solid reputation for tasting and smelling like a pine tree. The following three strains are sure to bring on this unique flavor so often associated with the holiday season. *Jack Herer* – As Dru West explains in our Issue 16 release, this world-renowned strain was named after and bred in honor of the legendary author and cannabis activist, Jack Herer. “Upon the first draw, you immediately begin to identify its complex flavors,” West says. “It’s almost as if you can roll the smoke over the different parts of your tongue and taste each one individually. After exhaling, you will enjoy the lingering taste of the haze and lemon cleaner. A single experience smoking this strain is all it takes to be able to confidently identify it in the future as well as recognize strains with which it has been bred.” *Super Silver Haze* – This selection comes compliments of Strainhunter Franco Loja. Loja is the manager of Green House Seed Co. and says Super Sliver Haze offers the highest levels of alpha-pinene. This strain is an uplifting sativa and bursts with skunk-like notes alongside the sweet floral of its Haze parentage. Super Silver Haze is a great choice for keeping your energy going today. *Bubba Kush* – This Green House Seed Co. offering is known for causing powerful sedative effects. Enjoy this strain after the company has left for the day. It’s a great solution towards ensuring the new year begins in a state of complete relaxation and reflection. *What are your favorite strains? - California Bill Would Let ‘Small’ Cannabis Producers Ship Directly to Consumers | Toker's Guide
California's proposed Small and Homestead Independent Producers (SHIP) Act would allow small cannabis producers to ship and sell directly to consumers. Introduced by state Rep. The bill, the Small and Homestead Independent Producers (SHIP) Act, introduced by state Rep. Jared Huffman (D), would allow the state’s smallest cannabis farmers to mail cannabis products within the state or into other states where cannabis is legal, were the federal government to remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act. “Larger, commercialized cannabis operators are infiltrating the market and squeezing out our local farmers in the process. So when the antiquated federal prohibition on cannabis finally gets repealed, we need to have substantial legislation ready to help these small businesses survive. My legislation would ensure that folks can ship their products straight to consumers, which would both help expand small businesses and ensure farmers stay afloat. When full legalization is guaranteed, we must commit to not leaving our smallest family-farmers behind.” — Huffman in a press release According to the bill text, a “small cultivator of cannabis” would include farms that cultivate “one acre or less of mature flowering cannabis plant canopy” outdoors, “22,000 square feet or less of cannabis plant canopy” in a greenhouse, or “5,000 square feet or fewer of mature flowering cannabis plant canopy” indoors. Small manufacturers are defined under the proposal as “a person who produces a manufactured cannabis product,” including salves, tinctures, edibles, or concentrates, with a gross annual revenue of less than $5 million. In a statement, Ross Gordon, co-founder at National Craft Cannabis Coalition and Policy Analyst at Origins Council, said that “Nearly 15 years into the experiment of state-level cannabis legalization … small and craft producers are being pushed to the margins, safe access for consumers and patients is shrinking, and the industry is consolidating into the hands of a few.” “Without direct-to-consumer shipping, federal cannabis legalization risks reinforcing these failures instead of correcting them,” Gordon said. “The SHIP Act is a make-or-break policy for the future of small cannabis businesses in California and across the country.” The California bill has received endorsements from the National Craft Cannabis Coalition, Minority Cannabis Business Association, National Cannabis Industry Association, Drug Policy Alliance, Parabola Center, Marijuana Justice, Veterans Cannabis Coalition, Origins Council, Washington Sun & Craft Growers Association, Vermont Growers Association, Maine Craft Cannabis Association, Humboldt County Growers Alliance, Mendocino Cannabis Alliance, Trinity County Agricultural Alliance, and the Central California Cannabis Club. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co.
