  • Minnesota’s First Craft Cannabis Business Accelerator Announces Inaugural Cohort | Toker's Guide

North Star Cannabis Consulting has launched Minnesota's first cannabis business accelerator, selecting 22 entrepreneurs to participate. Founded by Jen Randolph Reise, the program offers regulatory guidance, vendor networks, and peer support to help local, craft cannabis businesses compete with larger multi-state operators. The accelerator focuses on community-centered businesses, many of which are women-owned and/or BIPOC-owned, and preliminarily approved for microbusinesses. The program aims to provide infrastructure to help these small operators succeed and achieve profitability in Minnesota's growing adult-use market, which is projected to reach $430 million in sales by 2026. < Back Minnesota’s First Craft Cannabis Business Accelerator Announces Inaugural Cohort Oct 23, 2025 Source: Ganjapreneur Ganjapreneur Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link North Star Cannabis Consulting has announced 22 entrepreneurs selected for Minnesota’s first cannabis business accelerator, combining 15 founding members with seven newly selected participants. The program provides collaborative support infrastructure for craft cannabis entrepreneurs as Minnesota’s adult- use market reaches a critical growth phase. Former securities and cannabis attorney Jen Randolph Reise founded the accelerator after watching talented entrepreneurs struggle with regulatory complexity while lacking resources to compete with multi-state operators. The program offers regulatory guidance, vetted vendor networks, peer support, and accountability systems at a fraction of the cost of traditional legal consulting. The accelerator explicitly focuses on Minnesota’s craft cannabis vision: community-centered, locally-owned businesses rather than corporate, multi-state operators (MSOs) entering Minnesota. “Cannabis is small business on hard mode,” said Reise. “While the state funds allocated to help teach and fuel these small businesses are still unavailable to the entrepreneurs, we’re not waiting. Instead, we’ve leaned into the maxim that many hands make light work. We can accomplish more together. In other words, these 22 entrepreneurs represent what’s possible when small cannabis businesses have infrastructure to collaborate rather than struggle in isolation.” The cohort includes established hemp retailers transitioning to full dispensaries across the state (CannajoyMN in South Minneapolis, Green Apple Cannabis in Breckenridge, Calm Waters-Coconut Cannabis in Bemidji) and new dispensaries (Simply Kind in Starbuck), cultivators building compliant operations (Higher Heights (Legacy Cup Winner), and Smith Farms North), and social equity success stories like Moonbug Cannabis (Christopher and Vivien Benben, military veterans in Minneapolis). Most members of the cohort are preliminarily approved for microbusinesses, Minnesota’s unique, vertically-integrated business model. Further, more than half the cohort represents women-owned and/or BIPOC-owned businesses, statistically the least-likely to receive funding as startup businesses. All members are committed to setting up compliant businesses in Minnesota and learning together how to make them profitable and successful. “The accelerator connected me with the exact vendors I needed and helped me understand which city requirements to tackle first,” said Christopher Benben, Moonbug Cannabis. “Without this guidance, I would have spent months and thousands of dollars figuring out the process alone.” Minnesota’s adult-use sales launched in September with 59 licenses issued to date, while over 1,500 entrepreneurs pursue microbusiness licenses. Industry research from Whitney Economics shows only 24-25% of cannabis businesses achieve profitability, with small operators facing particular challenges. The accelerator addresses this critical moment when craft businesses must establish themselves before market consolidation occurs. The program offers a potential model for supporting small cannabis businesses in newly legalized states, providing systematic infrastructure that addresses the regulatory, capital, and operational challenges driving high failure rates nationwide. With analysts projecting $430 million in 2026 cannabis sales in Minnesota, the accelerator positions participants to capture economic opportunity while creating local jobs and community investment. The 22 businesses represent Minnesota’s craft cannabis vision in action. “We’re building the infrastructure Minnesota’s craft cannabis industry needs to succeed long-term,” Reise said. “These 22 businesses will open their doors, create jobs, and reinvest in their communities.” Applications for future programs will be announced in 2026. • Senator Criticizes GOP for Blocking Medical Cannabis Access for Veterans | Toker's Guide

The newsletter highlights key developments in cannabis and drug policy, including: a U.S. Senator criticizing the blocking of a vote on medical cannabis access for veterans; governors in Kentucky and Illinois criticizing a new federal prohibition on hemp THC products; Massachusetts passing a bill to double legal marijuana possession limits; and New York celebrating its 500th licensed dispensary. The summary also notes political operative Roger Stone's opposition to the federal hemp THC ban. Other updates cover federal justified military attacks on suspected drug boats, states reacting to the federal hemp ban (South Dakota, Wisconsin, Alabama, Texas), ongoing regulatory issues in New York and California, and scientific findings on CBD for type 1 diabetes and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD. < Back Senator Criticizes GOP for Blocking Medical Cannabis Access for Veterans Nov 17, 2025 Source: Tom Angell Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link The cannabis landscape is shifting rapidly, with significant updates across the country. Massachusetts is making moves to double legal possession limits, which is a huge win for local tokers looking for more flexibility. Meanwhile, New York just hit a major milestone with its 500th licensed dispensary, proving that the legal market is finally hitting its stride. On a tougher note, a new federal ban on hemp-derived THC has sparked serious backlash from governors in states like Kentucky and Illinois, who argue that local regulation is better than a blanket prohibition. Veterans also faced a setback as a vote to allow VA doctors to recommend medical cannabis was blocked, a move many are calling plain cruel. These developments are critical because they highlight the ongoing tug-of-war between expanded access and new restrictions. For regular users, Massachusetts' limit increase means less worry about legal thresholds, while the hemp ban could pull favorite products off shelves. Staying informed helps our community advocate for the fair, accessible plant medicine we all deserve. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Cookies & Alt Sol "Ridgeline Lantz" Strain Review - Takoma Wellness Center Ridgeline Lantz, cultivated by Alt Sol and currently available at Takoma Wellness Center, exudes an impressive pedigree. • Criminal Trial Underway for Nebraska Notary on Medical Cannabis Petitions   | Toker's Guide

Nebraska notary Jacy C. Todd is on trial for 24 misdemeanor charges of official misconduct related to medical marijuana petitions. Prosecutors allege Todd notarized signatures for a circulator who was not in his presence, while Todd testified that any errors were accidental or due to a misunderstanding of notarization requirements. < Back Criminal Trial Underway for Nebraska Notary on Medical Cannabis Petitions Feb 26, 2026 Source: TG Branfalt Ganjapreneur Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link The criminal trial of a Nebraska notary accused of official misconduct began on Monday. The Nebraska Examiner reports that Jacy C. Todd is facing 24 misdemeanor charges related to his notary duties for the Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana campaign that legalized medical cannabis in the state in 2024. Prosecutors allege that Todd, between January 29 and July 2, 2024, notarized petitions on behalf of a Michael K. Egbert, a paid petition circulator, who was not in Todd’s presence. The charges are Class II misdemeanors which carry a maximum of six months’ imprisonment, a $1,000 fine, or both. On Tuesday, Todd took the witness stand but could not explain why a couple of the petitions at the heart of the case had the wrong notarized date – Feb. 26, 2024, a date when Egbert was out of town. “Perhaps I got a date wrong with that, I have no idea how. Like I said, I’m only human. I just know it was accidental.” — Todd during testimony via Nebraska Examiner Todd testified that he would always witness a circulator sign their oath in person but would occasionally go back to stamp or sign a notarization to finish it later while overseeing his store and with dozens of petitions coming in. Todd further testified that he was unaware that in 2024 the complete notarization needed to occur while the signer and notary were in the same place. Egbert, who in 2024 pleaded guilty to a Class I misdemeanor of “attempting” to falsify his circulator’s oath, has admitted to using a phone book to add false signers to his petitions, forging signatures and fabricating birth dates. Egbert alleges that Todd never witnessed Egbert’s oath in person during the dates in question. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Cookies & Alt Sol "Ridgeline Lantz" Strain Review - Takoma Wellness Center Ridgeline Lantz, cultivated by Alt Sol and currently available at Takoma Wellness Center, exudes an impressive pedigree. The data comes two months after seed-to-sale tracking launched in the state, provided by METRC. In a statement, Jamie Patten, acting head and chief administrative officer of the CCA, said the system gives regulators a “real-time view of medical cannabis across Virginia.” “We can see which products are popular, track plant growth, and understand sales trends. That information helps us protect patients, prevent illegal products from entering the market, and make smart decisions for the program’s future.” — Patten in a press release In July and August, the system recorded 17,786 harvested plants, $29,942,138 in sales, and 256,432 transactions. Before the launch of METRC, Virginia cannabis sales data had been limited; however, the CCA notes that it plans to create a public dashboard on its website to host the data. Virginia chose METRC last November. In all, 23 U.S. states are using METRC to track cannabis product data and sales, according to the company website, along with Washington D.C. and Guam. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Cookies & Alt Sol "Ridgeline Lantz" Strain Review - Takoma Wellness Center Ridgeline Lantz, cultivated by Alt Sol and currently available at Takoma Wellness Center, exudes an impressive pedigree. • Indiana Lawmaker Files Bill to Legalize Low-Level Cannabis Possession and Home Grow | Toker's Guide

An Indiana lawmaker filed a bill to legalize the possession and cultivation of up to two ounces of marijuana without creating a commercial regulatory system, though the proposal faces significant opposition from top Republicans in the conservative legislature despite the governor being open to medical cannabis and nearly 9 in 10 adults supporting legalization. < Back Indiana Lawmaker Files Bill to Legalize Low-Level Cannabis Possession and Home Grow Jan 6, 2026 Source: Kyle Jaeger Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Indiana is finally seeing some movement on the cannabis front, though it’s a bit of an uphill climb. Representative Mitch Gore recently introduced a bill that would essentially allow Hoosiers to possess and grow up to two ounces of flower without any fear of criminal charges. This is a "non-commercial" approach, meaning there wouldn't be a state-run store system yet, but it’s a huge leap toward ending the era of arrests for simple possession. The bill also looks to raise the felony threshold from 30 grams to four ounces, which is a massive win for common-sense justice. While nearly 90 percent of Indiana residents are ready for legalization, the state’s conservative leadership remains a tough nut to crack. However, with the Governor showing some openness toward medical access and federal rescheduling on the horizon, the conversation is shifting. For regular tokers, this matters because it prioritizes personal freedom and home cultivation over corporate profits. It's the first step toward a future where Indiana residents can enjoy their herb responsibly without looking over their shoulders. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Cookies & Alt Sol "Ridgeline Lantz" Strain Review - Takoma Wellness Center Ridgeline Lantz, cultivated by Alt Sol and currently available at Takoma Wellness Center, exudes an impressive pedigree. • GOP Panel Demands Investigation into Biden’s Rescheduling Process | Toker's Guide

A GOP-led House committee is requesting a review of the cannabis rescheduling recommendation, expressing concerns about deviations from the review process and mental health hazards. The committee's report includes sections on marijuana and hemp, while also encouraging research into psychedelics. The report raises concerns about the FDA's 2023 marijuana scheduling review, directing the HHS Inspector General to complete a report. The committee is also concerned about products marketed in violation of the FFDCA and expects the FDA to take enforcement action. Additionally, the committee is directing the FDA to establish a task force for hemp-derived products and is tasking the USDA with identifying programs for fiber crops. The committee is also encouraging the FDA to work with the DOD on psychedelic research. < Back GOP Panel Demands Investigation into Biden’s Rescheduling Process Jun 10, 2025 Source: Kyle Jaeger Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link A GOP-led House committee is throwing a wrench into the works of federal marijuana rescheduling. They’re calling for an investigation into the Biden administration’s recommendation to move cannabis to Schedule III, claiming the review process skipped essential steps and failed to properly address the "mental health hazards" of high-potency bud. To make matters worse, they're also pushing to ban hemp products with any measurable THC, which could crush the CBD and Delta-8 markets. On a brighter note, the same panel is showing a surprising amount of love for psychedelics, encouraging more research into their therapeutic benefits for veterans. While it’s frustrating to see lawmakers double down on "reefer madness" rhetoric regarding flower, their openness to other plant medicines is a small silver lining. For everyday tokers, this political tug-of-war is a reminder that our access to safe, legal cannabis is still caught in the crosshairs of DC power plays. • Federal Agency Criticized for Giving Platform to Anti-Cannabis Claims | Toker's Guide

A federal health agency on Monday hosted a leading marijuana prohibitionist group for an event focused on cannabis use trends and youth prevention, giving the organization a prominent platform for a discussion that largely promoted an anti-reform agenda. < Back Federal Agency Criticized for Giving Platform to Anti-Cannabis Claims Sep 12, 2025 Source: Kyle Jaeger Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link It feels like we’re back in the D.A.R.E. era. Recently, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) gave a major platform to a leading prohibitionist group, Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM), to spread a strictly anti-reform narrative. The webinar focused on negative trends and youth prevention but conveniently ignored data showing that teen use actually stabilizes or drops in legal, regulated markets. Instead, speakers pushed questionable stats about "cannabis-involved deaths" and doubled down on the idea that legalization fails to dent the illicit market—despite UN reports suggesting the opposite. This is a frustrating reminder that federal agencies can still be stuck in old-school mindsets, even as the country moves toward rescheduling. For everyday tokers, this matters because these "official" platforms influence policy and funding that can hinder true progress. It highlights why we need to keep pushing for science-based education rather than biased rhetoric. • Slovenian Parliament Introduces Historic Medical Cannabis Measure | Toker's Guide

Slovenia is considering a medical cannabis modernization measure that would legalize domestic commercial medical cannabis production, home cultivation, regulated product distribution, and scientific research efforts. The measure would also create a non-restrictive industry licensing system and remove cannabis and THC from Slovenia’s prohibited drugs list. The new law will ensure a stable supply of medical cannabis products and is projected to grow by 4% annually, reaching over €55 million by 2029. < Back Slovenian Parliament Introduces Historic Medical Cannabis Measure May 9, 2025 Source: Johnny Green Cannabis Now Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Less than one year after voters in Slovenia overwhelmingly approved a medical cannabis referendum question as part of the 2024 European parliamentary election (66.7%), lawmakers in the European country have introduced a medical cannabis modernization measure. If approved, Slovenia would become home to the most progressive medical cannabis industry model in Europe. The measure, which was formally introduced in mid-April, would dramatically overhaul Slovenia’s cannabis policies governing medical and scientific use. While technically legal in Slovenia, safe access to medical cannabis is currently very limited in scope. Cannabis advocates in Slovenia have worked very hard for several years to achieve this public policy milestone, and the measure is expected to pass later this year. If adopted by Slovenian lawmakers, the new medical cannabis measure being considered would legalize domestic commercial medical cannabis production, home cultivation, regulated product distribution, and scientific research efforts. Slovenia is already a top international research and development hub for several large global industries, and the nation’s academic and institutional framework, which is already in place, positions the European nation to do the same for the emerging international cannabis industry. Furthermore, the modernization measure would create a non-restrictive industry licensing system, which is not common in most legal medical cannabis jurisdictions. Any individual or entity that meets the regulatory requirements can obtain a medical cannabis industry license to operate within Slovenia’s borders under the proposed bill. No public tender will be required, and no state monopoly will be involved. Both public and private entities will be able to produce and distribute medical cannabis according to the proposed law. All medical cannabis products sold in Slovenia’s market would have to be cultivated and processed according to Good Agricultural and Collection Practice (GACP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and European Pharmacopoeia standards. Requiring that medical cannabis products meet those standards will ensure that Slovenian medical cannabis patients have access to high-quality, safe products. *Removing THC From Slovenia’s Prohibited Drugs List* A major component of the medical cannabis policy modernization measure is the removal of cannabis and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) from Slovenia’s prohibited drugs list. Sectors making products from the cannabis plant and its derivatives, including resin and extracts, would be positively impacted by the policy change. The reclassification of cannabis and THC will remove various prohibition-based hurdles that have historically held back Slovenia’s industry and scientific research efforts. Slovenia’s European continental peer, Germany, approved a cannabis policy modernization measure over one year ago. The new CanG law in Germany included the removal of cannabis from the nation’s Narcotics List, and the positive impact the removal has had on Germany’s medical cannabis industry has been substantial. Germany’s medical cannabis industry is expanding in size and scope at an exponential rate due to the reclassification of cannabis, and the same is expected to happen if the current medical cannabis proposal is approved in Slovenia. Under current Slovenian law, narcotic prescription protocols are required for medical cannabis, which is a major reason why Slovenia’s medical cannabis program has historically been so small. The narcotic prescription requirement drastically limits the types of medical cannabis products that are available to suffering patients. That requirement will be removed if lawmakers approve the current proposal, and medical cannabis will be available via the regular medical prescription process. *Regulated Medical Cannabis for Animals* Currently, nearly six dozen nations around the world have adopted medical cannabis legalization measures. The medical cannabis models vary from country to country, with the most restrictive ones having the lowest legal patient numbers due to requiring that narcotic prescription protocols be followed. “Whole plant” medical cannabis products are prohibited under such models, leaving patients with only the option to obtain expensive imported cannabinoid-derived and synthetic cannabinoid products. A component of the introduced measure that will differentiate Slovenia from many other countries where medical cannabis is legal, and not just in Europe, is the legalization of regulated medical cannabis for animals. It is an area of medical cannabis that is still in its infancy, but possesses tremendous potential. Just as humans can benefit from the use of medical cannabis therapies, peer-reviewed studies have found that the same is true for animals. Further research is desperately needed to determine which cannabinoids and dosage levels are the most effective for animals, and that presents a big opportunity for Slovenia’s scientific community to conduct such research and develop products for the domestic and international markets. *The Gold Standard Medical Cannabis Models* The new Slovenian medical cannabis law, if implemented, will ensure a stable and continuous supply of medical cannabis products for the nation’s pharmacies, licensed wholesalers, and healthcare providers. This will help ensure that Slovenia’s suffering patients are not dependent on medical cannabis imports or are subjected to irregular access. Slovenia’s medical cannabis market is projected to grow by 4% annually, reaching over €55 million by 2029. The bill opens the sector to domestic innovation, job creation and export potential, and current Slovenian industry projections may likely prove to be too conservative as time goes by, thanks to the robust nature of the current proposal. The introduced Slovenian medical cannabis bill is aligned with current United Nations drug conventions and builds on successful models from countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and the Czech Republic, ensuring legal sufficiency and international compatibility. Slovenia’s medical cannabis measure is superior to any other proposal formally introduced in Europe’s young legal cannabis industry history and is worthy of celebration. It is a major milestone by every measure, and if the bill is adopted, it will prove to be a major victory not only for the nation of Slovenia, but also for the wider European and global cannabis movements. The proposal is the gold standard of what a medical cannabis model should be, and when it succeeds in helping patients and boosting Slovenia’s economy, it will be a glowing example for other nations seeking to follow Slovenia’s lead. • New Study Calls Medical Cannabis Effective for Chronic Pain and Quality of Life | Toker's Guide

A new study in the journal Pharmacy indicates that chronic pain patients who used medical marijuana for at least one year had lower healthcare utilization, including fewer urgent care and emergency department visits, and reported a higher quality of life. The study, involving over 5,000 patients, suggests that medical cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain and can lead to positive effects on the healthcare system. Other recent research also supports medical marijuana's role in pain management, its potential to reduce opioid use and related harms, and its cost-effectiveness as an alternative therapy for various conditions. < Back New Study Calls Medical Cannabis Effective for Chronic Pain and Quality of Life Jul 15, 2025 Source: Ben Adlin Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Science is finally catching up to what the community has known for years: cannabis is a legitimate powerhouse for managing chronic pain. A recent study published in the journal Pharmacy provides concrete evidence that medical marijuana does more than just provide relief; it actually keeps people out of the hospital. By analyzing over 5,000 patients, researchers found that those using cannabis for at least a year experienced significantly fewer emergency room and urgent care visits compared to non-users. Beyond just staying out of the waiting room, these patients reported a major boost in their overall quality of life and fewer "unhealthy days" each month. For regular tokers, this data is a massive win for legitimacy. It proves that our plant is a practical, effective alternative to traditional pharmaceuticals like opioids, which often come with much heavier side effects. This kind of research is essential for the industry because it builds the case for insurance companies to eventually cover medical cannabis, making our medicine more accessible and affordable for everyone. It’s further proof that when we choose green, we’re choosing a healthier path. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Cookies & Alt Sol "Ridgeline Lantz" Strain Review - Takoma Wellness Center Ridgeline Lantz, cultivated by Alt Sol and currently available at Takoma Wellness Center, exudes an impressive pedigree.
