- Cannabiz Credit Association Steps Up To Help Operators Tackle Unpaid Bills and Tighten Up Industry Lending | Toker's Guide
Brett Gelfand founded the Cannabiz Credit Association to assist cannabis operators in making informed credit decisions amid a growing trend of past-due invoices and a credit discipline gap in the industry. < Back Cannabiz Credit Association Steps Up To Help Operators Tackle Unpaid Bills and Tighten Up Industry Lending May 14, 2026 Source: Margaret Jackson MJbizDaily Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Running a successful cannabis business involves more than just having the best flower; it also requires navigating a complex world of unpaid bills and financial uncertainty. Brett Gelfand recently introduced the Cannabiz Credit Association to help bridge this gap, offering a specialized resource designed to bring much-needed stability to the industry's supply chain. This new organization functions as a dedicated credit bureau, giving businesses the tools they need to vet potential partners before any product ever leaves the shelf. In a market where traditional banking remains a hurdle, many cultivators and retailers rely on trade credit to keep things moving. However, when payments fall behind, it creates a ripple effect that can hurt everyone from the grower to the final customer. The Association addresses this by allowing members to share payment data anonymously. This collective knowledge helps identify which buyers are reliable and which ones might leave you hanging. For the average enthusiast, this might seem like dry business talk, but it actually plays a huge role in keeping your favorite brands on the shelves and ensuring the local dispensaries we love can keep their lights on. By promoting transparency and accountability, this initiative helps professionalize the scene and protects the hardworking people behind our favorite strains. If you are operating in the space, a practical tip is to treat your record-keeping with the same care you give your plants. Keeping precise logs of every transaction and communication not only helps your own bottom line but also contributes to the health of the entire community. When businesses are financially sound, they have more room to innovate, lower prices, and focus on providing top-tier products for all of us. It is great to see the industry maturing with these kinds of supportive networks that ensure everyone gets a fair shake and the marketplace stays vibrant and accessible for years to come. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - Virginia Rejected a Monopoly Model for Marijuana But Lawmakers Still Need to Finish the Job, Op-Ed Says | Toker's Guide
Virginia’s proposed cannabis legislation attempts to prevent monopolization and promote restorative justice, but the author warns that current operational timelines and fees threaten to undermine these goals by favoring incumbent multi-state operators. The author recommends that Virginia abandon the arbitrary retail launch date and instead implement "Market Readiness" benchmarks, allowing sales to begin only when independent licensees have compliant product available, thus ensuring a competitive market start. < Back Virginia Rejected a Monopoly Model for Marijuana But Lawmakers Still Need to Finish the Job, Op-Ed Says Dec 10, 2025 Source: Marijuana Moment Marijuana Moment Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Virginia is making some bold moves to ensure its upcoming legal cannabis market doesn't just become a playground for "Big Weed." A recent op-ed highlights that while the state has rejected a monopoly model—embracing restorative justice by qualifying those with prior convictions—the actual rollout plan might still favor the giants. For example, large medical operators can enter the adult-use market for a $10 million fee, which sounds steep but is a bargain compared to their massive valuations. The real concern for the community is the "120-day trap." New independent growers only have four months from getting a license to hitting shelves, which is nearly impossible for a full grow cycle. Meanwhile, the big guys already have vaults full of product. To keep things fair, advocates suggest a "Market Readiness" approach: don't start retail sales until smaller, local businesses actually have flower ready to sell. This matters because a truly competitive market means better variety, fairer prices, and more local love for everyday tokers. If the state hits the brakes and waits for the little guys, we all win. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. - Four Arrested for CBD Distillate Theft Valued at $3.6M | Toker's Guide
Four people were arrested in Texas and extradited to Georgia for the theft of 3,000 liters of hemp-derived CBD distillate worth an estimated $3.6 million. Two suspects face felony burglary charges for the theft, and two others face burglary and conspiracy charges. One suspect is believed to be the main orchestrator and faces multiple charges. The Georgia Department of Agriculture, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers, and Irwin County Sheriff’s Office cooperated in the investigation. Georgia's cannabis laws are also briefly mentioned, noting that cannabis is illegal except for a limited medical program, and a bill to ban THC from all hemp products stalled in the House committee. < Back Four Arrested for CBD Distillate Theft Valued at $3.6M Jun 29, 2025 Source: Graham Abbott Ganjapreneur Article Link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link The Georgia Department of Agriculture (DOA) said four people have been arrested for the theft of about 3,000 liters of hemp-derived CBD distillate with an estimated value of $3.6 million, WSBTV.com reports. The theft happened in January at the Irwin County, Georgia-based hemp processing facility Second Century Ag, where officers responded to reports of the theft and confirmed that 3,000 liters of CBD distillate had been stolen from a warehouse. Investigators said two perpetrators used a rented U-Haul to transport the stolen goods to another county, where they switched vehicles, before driving the CBD distillate to Dallas, Texas. Police arrested four people in Texas over the incident and they were all extradited to Georgia. The two suspects who are accused of actually stealing the CBD distillate are facing felony burglary charges, while two other suspects who were linked to the plot via peer-to-peer money transfers are facing both burglary and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors believe that one of the suspects, Aaron Wayne Smith, 29, was the main orchestrator of the plot, and are pursuing the following charges against him: - Second Degree Burglary - Conspiracy to Commit a Crime - Use of a Communication Facility in Committing or Facilitating a Drug Transaction - Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute - Felony Theft by Taking Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper said in a statement he is “incredibly proud” of the investigation, highlighting DOA’s cooperation with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Rangers, and the Irwin County Sheriff’s Office. “In Georgia we are sending a clear message, if you attempt to use agriculture as a cover for criminal activity – we will catch you and you will go to prison.” — Harper, in a press release Cannabis remains illegal in Georgia except under the state’s limited medical cannabis program. Officials last year added dispensaries to the program after the total patient count exceeded 25,000, the threshhold set by the state for triggering expansion. Meanwhile, lawmakers considered a bill this year to ban THC from all hemp products sold in the state but the Senate-passed proposal ultimately stalled in a House committee. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co. While that sounds like a buzzkill, they did keep protections in place for state medical programs, ensuring the feds can't mess with local patients. Meanwhile, the administration is pivoting toward youth-focused education campaigns about THC. On the hemp front, Senator Rand Paul is pushing back against efforts to ban hemp-derived products, arguing that even small amounts of THC are vital for consumer wellness and the industry's survival. At the state level, New Hampshire is still fighting for legalization despite governor opposition, and Texas voters are showing strong support for more relaxed laws. This legislative tug-of-war is vital for tokers to track because it dictates how safe and accessible our medicine remains. While federal shifts seem slow, the continued protection of state programs and the defense of the hemp industry are major wins for maintaining our community's variety and freedom of choice. < Previous Next > Recent Reviews Bomb Popz Infused Pre-Roll - Fade Co.
