A GOP congressman says he’s “excited” to work with the Trump administration
to advance psychedelics reform, expressing enthusiasm about federal health
officials who appear “friendlier” to the issue compared to those who served
under past presidents.

In an interview with Fox News, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) talked about his
work to secure funding for studies into the therapeutic benefits of
psychedelics such as psilocybin, MDMA and ibogaine—including the passage of
legislation to require Department of Defense (DOD) clinical trials into
such substances for active duty service members that then-President Joe
Biden signed into law.

GOP Representative Dan Crenshaw is optimistic about the future of psychedelic research, citing a "friendlier" atmosphere within the current Trump administration. During a recent Fox News appearance, the Texas congressman highlighted his push to double federal funding for clinical trials involving substances like psilocybin and MDMA, particularly for active-duty military members. With high-ranking officials like RFK Jr. and VA Secretary Doug Collins showing openness to these "breakthrough therapies," the long-standing stigma around these plants and compounds is finally beginning to fade at the federal level.

This shift is a massive win for the community because it signals that the government is moving away from "Reefer Madness" era taboos and toward science-backed accessibility. For everyday enthusiasts and veterans alike, seeing bipartisan support for psychedelics suggests that we are closer than ever to a world where therapeutic options are defined by their efficacy rather than outdated politics. When the Department of Defense and the VA start leading the way on plant medicine, it paves a smoother path for broader legalization and safe, regulated access for everyone.
