It is not every day you see the alcohol industry sticking up for the cannabis community, but the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America is currently pushing Congress to reconsider a massive hemp ban. A new House spending bill is threatening to effectively wipe out the consumable hemp market by redefining the plant to exclude anything with even trace amounts of THC. This could kill off everything from natural Delta-9 hemp gummies to standard CBD oils.
The wholesalers are arguing that while synthetic, lab-made cannabinoids might need a closer look, naturally derived products should stay legal and regulated. They realize that total prohibition only hurts legit businesses and pushes tokers back toward a shady, unregulated black market.
This matters to everyday enthusiasts because it shows that even traditional industries recognize that accessibility and safety are better than bans. Having a powerful ally in the fight against prohibition helps protect our right to access clean, tested products. If this ban moves forward, it would be a major step backward for the community and the industry alike.
