Marijuana Moment

The news coming out of D.C. this week is a mixed bag, but there is some major progress for our military heroes. In a huge win for common sense, the House of Representatives passed an amendment that would finally allow VA doctors to give medical cannabis recommendations to veterans. For too long, our vets have been forced to go outside the VA system—often paying out of pocket—just to talk to a doctor about a plant that helps with PTSD and chronic pain. This move is all about respect and making sure those who served have the same access to alternative relief as everyone else.

On the flip side, things are getting a bit messy with federal rescheduling. While the administration is moving toward Schedule III, some folks in Congress are trying to pull the emergency brake with a new spending bill provision aimed at blocking the DOJ from finishing the job. The silver lining? A longstanding protection for state medical programs remains intact, so your local access is safe for now. It’s a classic case of political tug-of-war, but it highlights why our community needs to stay loud and active.

Speaking of being loud, Representative Ilhan Omar recently kept it real by pointing out that plenty of people in Congress use cannabis themselves. It’s a refreshing bit of honesty that helps break down the old stigmas. If even the lawmakers under the Capitol dome are lighting up, it’s hard to justify keeping others behind bars for the same thing.

Down in Louisiana, there’s more heartening news as a bill moves forward to allow terminally ill patients to use their medicine right in the hospital. It’s a compassionate step that focuses on comfort and dignity. Plus, a new poll shows that national support for psychedelic therapy is skyrocketing. Whether it’s for mental health or physical recovery, the culture is clearly shifting toward a more natural, plant-based approach to wellness. Stay informed and keep supporting the movement—we’re making real headway!
