Marijuana Moment

Virginia is finally making moves toward a real retail cannabis market. Both the House and Senate recently greenlit separate bills to kickstart adult-use sales, though they still have to iron out some details like tax rates and the official launch date—likely late 2026 or early 2027. Crucially, lawmakers are also pushing forward with resentencing reform, offering a path for those with past convictions to catch a break. While the two chambers have slightly different visions for regulation and revenue, new Governor Abigail Spanberger is a supporter, which is a massive win after years of legislative roadblocks.

This progress is huge for the community because it signals an end to the "legal to have, but nowhere to buy" limbo that’s frustrated Virginia tokers since 2021. For regular users, a regulated market means safer, tested products and more accessibility, while the resentencing efforts show a commitment to fixing the harms of prohibition. It’s a major step toward a fair and functional cannabis culture in the Commonwealth.
