A White House official says that, as President Donald Trump weighs whether
to follow through with a marijuana rescheduling proposal that was initiated
during the Biden administration, there’s a growing understanding that
cannabis reform is “good politics”—comparing the issue to how same-sex
marriage gradually gained bipartisan support over time.

Marijuana Moment

It looks like the White House is finally catching on to what the community has known for years: cannabis reform is just plain "good politics." Word from the inside is that President Trump is seriously weighing a move to drop marijuana down to Schedule III. This shift, which originally gained steam under the previous administration, is now being seen as a savvy move to win over voters before the midterms. Interestingly, the President’s change of heart apparently comes from hearing firsthand accounts from veterans and seniors—some even on the golf course—about how the plant helps with pain, anxiety, and sleep.

While some advisors remain stuck in the past, the general consensus in D.C. is that the public has moved on, much like they did with other major social shifts. We could see a final decision as early as this month or by the end of the year. For everyday tokers, this is a massive deal. While Schedule III isn't full legalization, it’s a giant leap toward ending federal prohibition. It would likely trigger better banking access and more medical research, proving that our culture is finally being taken seriously at the highest levels of government.
