Strain : Afternoon Delight Cultivator : RHYTHM   Market : Maryland Recreational Overall Rating : 8.9/10 Lean : Indica Dominant Aroma I was excited to try one of the newest drops from RHYTHM , Afternoon Delight 4 and I knew that first impressions were going to mean everything. With this being a GMO cross, I was already expecting some funk, but I was pleasantly surprised with how many other notes were present. Initially, I was slammed in the nose with a duo of fresh cut grass and honeysuckle that took me aback. Later notes of cedarwood and pepper made themselves known as the smell quickly dissipated into the air around me. Running the buds through a grinder also brought to light the sharp sting of astringent and nail polish remover, a note so pungent that I no longer had to look for the GMO parental influence – it had tracked me down like a terpene-soaked assassin. Appearance Overall, the buds were extremely pretty to look at. The trichome retention on the Afternoon Delight was wildly impressive for commercially available cannabis in the Maryland market. Each of the nugs in my jar had in-tact and reactive heads on almost every stalk. The buds overall were dense and incredibly sticky when handled and broken apart. While there was some slight work on the bracts of the flower, the overall trim was good as well and didn’t seem to impact any of the major players on each bud. As much as it pained me to run these through the process of being broken down, I knew what needed to be done. Flavor For fans of the funky-gas profiles, look no further than this strain to find your delight. The dry hit of the joint that I rolled erupted in that same astringent aroma note that I had found when I first started to break the buds down. Almost the same note I had sting my nose was now also coating my entire palate with a chemical sting that was much less unappetizing and much more hypnotizing. Each pull continued the chem notes with more and more intensity, almost feeling like the flavors were all bunching up with each pull and intensifying. While I was enjoying the flavor a ton (these funky profiles are my cup of fermented tea), I was also constantly puffing on the joint to find more flavor and taste the flower again...which turned out to be the most delightfully happy accident of all. Lineage GMO X Trophy Wife Experience Despite the name giving me a clear time of day to enjoy it, I chose to try Afternoon Delight in the evening, but it was equally as delightful. Labeled as a hybrid, this cultivar stayed true to its claim. No part of the high felt too racy nor too sedative and it came on gently. For anyone who may struggle with anxiety when a strain hits too hard, I would highly recommend this one - it even kept me even-keel enough to enjoy a few episodes of a show that would normally be nothing more than background noise while I wasted time on my phone. Strain : Animal Face Dispensary : RISE Market : VA Medical Overall Rating : 9/10 Lean : Indica Dominant Initial Thoughts I knew I was in for a special treat when the budtender at VA medical marijuana dispensary, RISE , shook the Rythm jar and nothing moved around on the inside. I had a pretty good feeling that the Animal Face bud I was about to receive was a monster. Sure enough I was met with one large honker of a nug that even weighed more than 3.5g. Appearance Dense nugs that break off the main stem like a puzzle. These buds are mainly shades of green and orange with a heavy layer of trichomes and pistils that are scattered everywhere. Status Fresh, but starting to cure. Aroma Extremely sweet and sour smelling mint mixed with a slight candy scent.  Flavor It’s got a sweet nutty taste with slight notes of fuel and diesel mixed in. Lineage The Animal Face strain is a cross of Face Off OG and Animal Mints that runs indica dominant. Effects Animal Face delivered a heavy and sedating high, and acted as a switch by turning off my worries. What's interesting is that Rythm, in their thoughtful approach, pairs each strain with a curated playlist, labeling Animal Face as "Soul" - a fitting choice, as it indeed evoked a sense of comforting southern hospitality. The vibes it exuded were simply great, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and ease. Conclusion This Animal Face is one of the most enjoyable strains I’ve tried from a VA dispensary to date. This batch of Blue Cookies is likely to overwhelm a novice user so if you are just starting out I’d recommend picking up something a little more mild. I was speaking with the budtenders at Cannabist in Carytown and they let me know there are actually two batches of Florida Strawberries in circulation and I got the more potent one! It’s always fun opening up the jar to reveal one ginormous nug - I almost want to leave it untouched so it can be preserved in all its beauty. Appearance Tiny white trichomes twinkle and sparkle as the light catches it. I ended up breaking up the bigger cola to snap a few more pictures of the buds and I noticed some strawberry orange colored pistils when opening up and exposing the inside layers. Structure My batch consisted of one large nug that fit quite snug into the container. This is the biggest bud I have received from the program to date. Status Fresh, curing bud. I smoked it 10 days after the package date. Hopefully, this is a good sign things are starting to speed up with the BoP’s approval process. Aroma Sweet notes of berry and citrus. Flavor I wanted this to taste like strawberries so badly - it did not. However, the taste was fresh and pleasant. It tasted like warm berries and left an aftertaste I didn’t want to depart from my palate. Conclusion I’m a big fan of this batch of Florida Strawberries that gLeaf just released in their most recent flower drop. Simultaneously, they also altered the pricing on their tiers, hopefully making their flower accessible to more people.
