  • Flap Jacks by Terp Lords - The Green Room

Initial Thoughts Sometimes an energetic indica makes for the best of wake and bake sessions and this Flap Jacks by the Terp Lords and currently available at DC i-71 storefront dispensary, The Green Room, is equal parts cerebral energy and euphoric body buzz. It also has a super funky sugary and slightly buttery aroma that does resemble some syrup drenched pancakes. I guess you could call this batch...stacked. 🥞😂🤦‍♂️ Appearance Bright green, dense buds with loads of white trichomes. Status Curing, but the aroma and flavor are still fresh. Aroma Sweet, sugary, buttery, and with a hint of something like maple. Flavor Just like the aroma, but with a gassiness that comes out in the exhale. Very smooth. Lineage The Flap Jacks strain is a cross of MAC Flurry and Pancakes that runs indica dominant. Effects This is an uplifting indica with cerebral energy and focus accompanied by an amazingly comforting body high. At onset the energetic aspect isn't abundantly apparent and there are more indica feels. However, once the high truly sets in the desire to think or do and the motivation to make it happen begin to form. All things seem a bit lighter and more mellow, but engaging in activity or thought seems to bring joy rather than frustration for not being more sedentary. Conclusion Overall, I really enjoyed the energetic/euphoric combo and it seemed to be more like a balanced 50/50 than indica dominant. Either way, the toke is remarkably delicious and smooth and it kept a smile on my face for much of the afternoon. To evaluate its effects for yourself just head to The Green Room ASAP and don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Panama Red Gen. 15 by Alt Sol - Takoma Wellness Center (DC Medical)

Initial Thoughts I recently found myself at Takoma Wellness and I'd been hoping to try the strain Panama Red for sometime, so when I saw the version from DC craft cultivators, Alt Sol, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Initially, when I saw the buds' form and color, my eyes told me that the rumors were true. I must get my paws on this classic sativa! Appearance This flower is beautiful. I was welcomed by the deep green buds with their long red hairs and juicy crystalline trichomes. Structure Dense well-trimmed buds of various sizes. Status Yummy, tender and succulent. Great cure on this flower. Aroma Tropical and earthy. Absolutely incredible, and so unique. Flavor Tea, spicy/ herbal & tropical. Lineage Originating in Panama this sativa landrace has already stood the test of time, and has been crafted with love to its peak ripeness. This strain flowers longer than many others in the sativa cannabis world, taking 11-12 weeks of some of the brightest light to reach its full potential! Effects I first enjoyed the flavor during the smoking experience, it was unlike what I've tried before in my years of smoking. It felt classy and had an acquired taste that I had a big appreciation for. I first noticed a buzzing in my body, then I realized my mind was being relaxed while also maintaining the ability to focus and think freely. I loved using this strain at work and during creative tasks like writing and cooking. It was also a great, re-energizing companion during a hike I brought it on. Conclusion This flower for me personally really did live up to, and even exceed, the expectations I had heard about Alternative Solution's flower. This strain in particular is a must try, as so many other cultivators don't try their hand in it due to its particularly long flowering time and very high, sunlight-like light consumption. I suggest picking this up if you want to experience something special and need a sativa that isn't going to make you feel overwhelmed and anxious. When you stop in, don't forget to let the dispensary staff know Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Sour Banana by The Bank - Cannabist, Norfolk (VA Medical)

Initial Thoughts I had the wonderful opportunity of attending the soft opening of Cannabist located right here in Norfolk! No more driving 30 minutes to an hour to get beautiful buds like this Sour Banana from The Bank. The Bank’s “Cache” level doesn’t usually tend to catch me off guard, but this Sour Banana has the flavors and aromas of mouth watering tart berries mixed with the sweetness of bananas… I knew it was going to be astounding on the palate once I began breaking it up and exposing the glittering trichomes inside! Appearance Light and dark green buds with almost strawberry colored pistils. Glittery trichomes shine through from the inside as you break it down. Status Dried, cured and stored with a terpene shield! Aroma This smells of a fresh chopped fruit salad! We’re talking sour berries with a hint of citrus and the sweetness of a ripened banana. Flavor A very smooth toke that tastes of sour berries, bananas, and hints of citrus. Lineage Sour Banana is a sativa dominant hybrid bred by The Bank. It’s a cross of Sour Diesel and Banana Sherbet. Effects This Sour Banana was very pleasantly surprising in flavor and aroma, but its overall effects were what blew my mind! Sativa dominant hybrids can have adverse effects when it comes to anxiety; however, this blend did the exact opposite! It made me want to go outside on an adventure. This blend also helped me to feel quite creative and focused, so getting things done around the house was a breeze! Conclusion If you’re a “Cannasseur” who doesn’t get caught off guard easily, I highly recommend trying Sour Banana by The Bank. The fruitiness of this blend is nothing short of lip-puckering, mouth-watering, greatness! Cannabist in Norfolk is open for their soft launch, and they’re rumored to officially open on 4/20! So, if you’re tired of driving back and forth to get your medicine, swing by Cannabist in Norfolk to add this to your stash, and don’t forget to let them know you read about it on Toker’s Guide!

  • Grape Goober - Top Level DC

Initial Thoughts Though the name may not sound particularly appealing, this batch of Grape Goober from DC i-71 storefront dispensary, Top Level, is like a gassy Gelato with extra grape notes - a very intriguingly delicious aroma. I was psyched to roll it up and expect an immense indica body high. 🤤 Appearance Compact, light green buds with blue-ish purple flecks and lots of trichome coverage. Aroma Creamy, gassy, skunky, and funky with grape notes. Flavor Very much like the aroma, but with hints of pine and even more grape notes in the exhale. Lineage The Gooberz strain is a cross of Peanut Butter Breath and Grape Pie that runs indica dominant. Grape Goober is likely just a phenotype of Gooberz that displays more purple coloration and grape flavor. Effects It possesses a great body high that's noticeable immediately and begins spreading throughout with what feels like little glowing tingles. It is very, very calming and I even got the sense that the world around me got a little bit softer and quieter. There are some sedative and disorienting effects, so it's probably best to save this one for the evening hours. However, I needed some healing today so I burned it in the morning and then started writing this. So far I'm super mellow, but still awake, and the writing is slow, but feels good with all mental anxiety seemingly turned off. Conclusion This is a solid batch that burns right, hits hard, and will delve you into an indica body blanket of comfort for hours. Definitely roll this one up to get the full experience and don't forget to tell Top Level that you heard about them on Toker's Guide!

  • Metaverse by Terp Lords - Cannabear DC

Initial Thoughts When rummaging around the Metaverse it's not uncommon to see things of a cannabis nature. I had not, however, run into any cannabis strains by the name of Metaverse yet - until this batch came over from DC i-71 delivery service, Cannabear, that is. Would it send me directly into the Metaverse through my mind without an interface? Hey, it's worth a shot! 🤪 Appearance Rich green and purple buds with a heavy layer of white trichomes. They are all on the small side, but there are no large stems and their manicure is nearly perfect. Status Just beginning to cure. Aroma A combo of gassy and funky with hints of tart berry and caramel. Flavor Exquisitely delicious and smooth toking with a heavy sugary, bready, and gassy stance that will make your mouth water. There are also hints of berry and sour fruit. Lineage Metaverse is a cross of Elon Musky (Rocket Fuel X Wedding Cake) and Boysenberry Creme Brûlée that runs sativa dominant. Effects This one is not for the newbs and definitely had me freaking out a little at the onset. The powerful head rush makes you feel like you're being drawn to whatever bright lights or large objects are overhead - that's how intense the cerebral effects are. Once the buzz settled in I was energetic and motivated with a grin (partially of relief) on my face. Conclusion Hit up Cannabear today (in reality) to grab some of this epic sativa experience from Terp Lords and get ready for a bit of a roller coaster joyride. While that joyride may not be through the virtual world of fun and fantasy that is the Metaverse, I thought the strain did a splendid job of making the real-verse more joyful. Definitely roll this one up in a joint to experience the full awesomeness of the super smooth and gassy toke. Maybe even consider experiencing the Metaverse while on some Metaverse? 🤔🤦‍♂️

  • Açaí Berry Gelato - The Garden DC

Initial Thoughts The most notable thing about this batch of Açaí Berry Gelato from DC i-71 storefront dispensary, The Garden, is the mega funky aroma. It's a super pungent amalgamation of gassy, skunky, fruity, and piney that's not like your average Gelato. Also unlike your average Gelato is its energetic sativa stance that will leave you so uplifted you might think you're hovering around town.🕴 Appearance Spear-shaped buds with a tight trim and lots of starry trichomes within. Bright green with the occasional fleck of purple. Status Fresh. Aroma Gassy, skunky, fruity, and piney this is absent the creaminess you might be used to from a Gelato, but the aroma is more pungent than usual too. Flavor The same mix of gassy, skunky, fruity, and piney that makes up the aroma is also present in the flavor. The aftertaste has some Chem-like qualities as well. Lineage Acai Berry Gelato is a cross of Pink Panties and Sunset Sherbert that runs sativa dominant. Effects This one hits hard and fast and its presence is mostly noticed cerebrally at first with a highly energetic headspace. Expect focus and an overall boost in mood. Great for daytime use as it can benefit your work ethic while keeping you feeling light, cheery, and pain free. Conclusion I find this Acai Berry Gelato is a great accompaniment to many outdoor activities like running, golf, and light yard work. It kept me pumped up, driven, and each task seemed to feel great while doing it and after it was accomplished. It's all around positive vibes with this batch! • Rose Gold Runtz - Flower Ave

Initial Thoughts Coming out of Flower Ave, a DC i-71 cannabis delivery team, check out these Rose Gold Runtz. It was dark when I first received them, but the buds had an exotically funky nose and felt quite soft and spongy to the touch. I could tell from these things alone that it was going to be a highly enjoyable batch. Only after I finally got it into the light did I realize just how potent looking and, frankly, intimidating these buds were visually. 🤩 Appearance The look of this flower is comparable to rose gold, having a warm look with its colorful purple notches and golden hairs. The shimmer of trichomes resembles the gold embellished appeal. Status Nice cure. When gently squeezed, this batch of flower had an intriguing fresh springy feel. Once ground, the fluffy granules were not dry in the slightest. Aroma I got a light whiff of roses and berries when I first opened up this garden-fresh bagged eighth. I definitely got more of a classic runtz smell when I broke it down, and this made my mouth begin to water. Flavor I enjoyed the flavor of this the whole way through my joint. The sour and creamy mixed wonderfully together, and I believe this is due to the cure that was performed on this flower. Lineage Rose Gold Runtz is a cross of Apples & Bananas and White Runtz that runs evenly balanced at 50/50 on the indica/sativa spectrum. Effects The effects had me feeling a little bit of everything. I began smoking while listening to some good music to ease my mind after a long day of work. I continued functioning for a short period of time and then I felt myself getting deeper and deeper into thought. I enjoyed the daze for a few and then jolted back into reality with a "whoa" moment. This loop continued for a lengthy duration with me getting lost in the music, the moment, and then coming back again. This strain felt good in my body as well and I even had a sense of rejuvenation the next day. Conclusion This is a very balanced, well-rounded high. I'm excited to have had the opportunity to review such a fantastic strain! I felt relief from pain in my body and was also able to enjoy my high while not feeling stuck for too long. In larger doses, I could see this being heavier, but with the one jay I was feeling very spirited. To experience it for yourself just hit up Flower Ave ASAP and don't forget to let them know Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Diesel Cake - The Basement

Initial Thoughts Given the sparse supply of great sativas in the region I'm always keeping my eye out for them. One available, high-caliber option is this batch of Diesel Cake from DC i-71 storefront dispensary, The Basement. It's got a really nice coating of trichomes, a Sour Diesel-like stench, and if you need some extra energy to race through your day, it will definitely get your motor running. 🏎 Appearance Light green, spear-shaped buds with bright orange hairs, purple flecks, and heavy trichomes. Status Curing, but stored and handled correctly. Aroma Sour, musky, and earthy with hints of skunk and cream. Flavor Gassy and sour with earthiness in the aftertaste. Lineage Diesel Cake is a cross of Sour Diesel and Wedding Cake that runs sativa dominant. Effects This one has powerful energetic effects and even created a social boldness and determination in me. It's highly cerebral at first and can bring tremendous focus and drive to your daytime activities. Not for the faint of heart or those who are inexperienced with sativas, though. It can cause some edginess and racing thoughts at onset, but the glowing energetic high is ultimately one that sativa-lovers will thoroughly enjoy. Conclusion Overall, this is a powerhouse sativa-dominant batch that's great to keep on hand for those days when you need to be energetic and on-point, but also absent any distracting pain. Once the buzz plateaus there are great euphoric qualities to the body buzz as well as the cerebral aspects. • BB Bacio - Lucky Chuckie

Initial Thoughts I quickly figured out that the "BB" in the name stands for Backpack Boyz and is a reference to the genetic origin of this Bacio Gelato cut from DC i-71 cannabis delivery service Lucky Chuckie. Once I broke open the pack the quality was confirmed by the trichome coverage and funky Gelato-esque smell. Though the buds of this batch seem to be on the small side, this is still one to check out and great for rolling up. Appearance Bright green with bluish-purple tones and a good amount of white trichomes all over. Dense in structure. Status Curing. Aroma Creamy and skunky with some earthy indica notes. Flavor Earthy with a chemmy, creamy, and skunky aftertaste. Lineage Bacio Gelato is a cross of Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies that runs evenly balanced at 50/50 on the indica/sativa spectrum. Effects This batch carries a great body high and has many uplifting characteristics, but is also quite calming in character. Everything seems to float by in a world that's just a little bit brighter and a little more exciting. It also did a great job of alleviating any and all neck pain for me and the smoothness of the toke made me want to keep hitting it all day long. • Red Velvet Runtz by Center City Cultivation - Takoma Wellness Center (DC Medical)

Initial Thoughts Coming out of DC medical cannabis dispensary, Takoma Wellness Center, this Center City Cultivation creation is a FIRE strain by the name of Red Velvet Runtz! The name right away stood out to me as I am a big fan of red velvet cake, and it sounded like it was going to be something very worthy of a positive review. I initially heard from a few dispensary agents how much they enjoyed it, and that's usually a great sign! Appearance Solid, uniform, frosty buds. Dark green color with tons of trichomes coating the flower. Showing through them are short yet prominent orange hairs. Structure Dense, even nugs. Breaks down smoothly, leaving an intriguing layer of stickiness on your fingers. Status Curing. Aroma Earthy, yet sweet and a bit sour. Flavor Cherry candy inhale, the exhale comes through slightly more berry and fruity. Lineage Red Velvet Runtz is an indica-dominant cross of Red Velvet and Runtz strains. Effects My blunt burned like an incense, nice and slow. I was drawn into a Netflix show with my partner, laughing and being child-like engaging with one another. This strain made me feel bubbly and social with also a settling, relaxed body feel. After about 30 minutes it got a bit heavier in the body while still keeping that sense of wonder mentally for the remainder of the night. Conclusion I'm going back to DC to get more of these Red Velvet Runtz from Takoma Wellness as soon as I can. The amazing flavor and divine, bubbly effects are exactly what I'm looking to add to my collection at the moment and the potency unquestionable. • Wedding Dancer vs Black Truffle - The Gift Givers

Initial Thoughts The first thing I thought upon encountering these two phenomenal strains from DC i-71 cannabis delivery crew, The Gift Givers, was literally, "Wow, this is some fire." In fact, both the Wedding Dancer and the Black Truffle were so good, once out of their respective bags, that I immediately took pictures of them so I could waste no time in rolling them up. ⏰ Appearance The Wedding Dancer is extra frosted with milky white and starry trichomes. It's coloration consists of more shades of purple than green and this makes the trichomes stand out remarkably. This is also the case for the Black Truffle with it's very dark, nearly black coloration and white trichome coverage - though less trich'd out than the Wedding Dancer. Structure These buds are on the fluffier side and create the appearance of an oversized bag. This is a testament to the TLC that went into their post harvest storage and packaging. Status Fresh. Aroma The Black Truffle stands out here with an immensely skunked out, chemmy, and slightly piney scent that will invade any room you put it in. The Wedding Dancer is more along the lines of a super funky, creamy, and fresh Gelato with hints of dough, cookie, chocolate, and spice. Flavor Both are exceptionally exotic and delicious in flavor with nearly perfect alignment between flavor and aroma. The Black Truffle is notably Chem-like on the exhale while the creamy aftertaste of the Wedding Dancer is like the best Gelato and GSC combo ever. Lineage It seems the genetics of both of these varietals are closely gaurded secrets, but our guess is that the Black Truffle is a pheno of Truffle that expresses dark purple coloration. This would make it an indica-dominant cross of Zkittlez and Cherry Noir. As for the Wedding Dancer, the team believe this to be a similar case where a super sexy cut of Wedding Crasher was selected and bred to maximize optimal traits. Wedding Crasher is a cross of Wedding Cake and Purple Punch that runs indica dominant. Effects With each of these options proposed to be leaning 60/40 indica-heavy we thought this should be a pretty even battle of similar effects. However, in reality the Wedding Dancer proved to be more cerebral and energetic than the Black Truffle, which seemed to carry a heavier body buzz. In either case, the potency is off the charts and the effects are long in duration. Conclusion Overall, both of these specimens were representative of exceptionally well cultivated, high-end exotic bud with gorgeous appearances and high potency. If forced to choose a winner I would have to give the edge to the Wedding Dancer due to its plethora of starry trichomes and my preference for energetic effects. To form your own consensus and victor I invite you to hit up The Gift Givers today and have each delivered to you for own battle of the buds. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Jack Herer - Giving Tree

Initial Thoughts If you're looking for a sativa leaning option that doesn't give you an overly anxious feeling, then I highly suggest checking out this batch of Jack Herer from DC i-71 shop Giving Tree. Known for its euphoric and motivating high, it captivated me with a creative headspace of endless possibilities. Yet, I was still relaxed enough to maintain peace and clarity. ☮️ Appearance Large and light green buds with bright orange hairs that contrast with the lime green shade of the flower. Structure Slightly airy, which is common for some sativas given the stretching process while it flowers. Status This strain was incredibly lovely to break down. I noticed the cure was done with care and the resin buildup on my fingers was notable when rolling it up. Aroma Instantly you get a skunky gassy musk, but also a classic haze smell. Flavor I thoroughly enjoyed the delightful taste of this flower. Gas and a bit of lemon on the inhale with an exhale and aftertaste that's a mix of citrus. Lineage Haze, combined with a Northern Lights #5 X Shiva Skunk cross. Effects I suggest using this strain during the day as it typically provides a highly energetic effect. This can be very helpful if you have things to get done, especially those that require focus and attentiveness. I enjoyed this strain for my work day and felt as though my muscles were relaxed while I performed all of my tasks with clarity, alertness, and in the absence of pain. Conclusion In conclusion, I do suggest this classic batch of Jack Herer to anybody who enjoys a good hazy sativa. Personally, I think it's a great daytime option and a blessing to those feeling low energy. I know I accomplished a lot and I felt gleeful and pain free in doing it all.
