  • Truffles - The Garden DC

Initial Thoughts Coming out of The Garden in DC, check out this batch of Truffles. It was the first flower I picked out of my selection of strains to dive into because I desired an indica dominant strain to ease some anxiety and mellow my mind and body. However, I also chose it first because of the name - I'm a big fan of truffles in general, both the chocolate and fungus kind - so it stands to reason that I would be a fan of the ganja version as well. Plus, one has to assume that the aroma will be super funky. Appearance Dark purple, with some green accents and plenty of trichomes giving tons of dimension. Seeing how beautiful the nugs looked, I had to open things up and get a closer look for myself. Status Sticky buds. Resin collected on my fingers and under my nails as I broke it down. It rolled up efficiently, as it held whatever shape you put your crumbles into. Aroma Deep earthy, brown sugary, and caramel with some gas. I also picked up some fruity mouthwatering notes too. Flavor Very caramel based in flavor. The sweetness of caramel reminded me exactly of my sweet caramel oat milk coffee creamer and it made me smile. I did actually taste notes of coffee which complemented it's sweet creaminess perfectly. Lineage Truffles (aka Truffle & Trufflez) is a cross of Zkittlez and Cherry Noir that was originally bred by Aficionado and typically runs 60/40 indica dominant. Effects While sitting and smoking some of this, it dawned on me that I wasn't feeling stuck like I usually feel from an indica dominant strain. As I got up I felt like I could really think clearly. I was feeling happy and enjoyed my afternoon working without feeling my eyes needing to close and rest. After the high came down just a bit, within an hour or so, I felt my body wanting to lounge around more. Morphing into a couch potato I felt both silly and inquisitive as time seemed to go by more slowly. Conclusion My whole experience with this flower was extremely positive. This strain eased my anxiety and let me focus without mental fog or distraction. I can see it having great potential in helping with anxiety, insomnia, pain, PTSD and headaches. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for Truffles batches in the future and I highly suggest heading to The Garden and picking up some for your own stash. • Emiratez Gelato - No Kids Allowed

Initial Thoughts Whenever I see the word Gelato in a strain name I feel drawn to it, and have always had good experiences with it in the past. Off the bat, all of the components of this cross seemed to be true to the name. I was expecting to feel both uplifted and a glowing body buzz - I was not disappointed. It's also quite the eye candy to show off to friends - some great bag appeal indeed! Appearance Frost layered buds with distinct dark purples and greens popping through. Status Still curing. Slightly dust-like when ground with fingers. Aroma When I cracked the jar I immediately received a loud gelato smell carrying a chem and fruit aroma. Flavor Gelato is typically known for its classic sweet, herbal, mint, and fruity sherbet flavor combination. I was pleasantly led on by the smell, and was ready to spark it. The flavor overpowered the backwood in a delicious way. I could clearly taste gelato on the inhale, and I didn't want to stop hitting this one. A healthy vanilla, gassy, sherbet taste was left to enjoy after exhaling. Lineage It's speculated that this strain is Jet Fuel x Gelato, but the true genetics are unknown. Effects Going into this session I had a pretty ferocious migraine that was reverberating in my head and body. I was looking forward to setting out on a healing journey with my water and cannabis medicine in hand. I sometimes feel worse after smoking with a migraine, but oftentimes the right strain can do wonders for the pain and help me rest it off. At the start, the high felt really floaty and I felt present in this euphoric feeling. Quickly I noticed that this strain helped tremendously with my migraine and gave me a warm, healing bodysuit to wear. Conclusion Overall, I was very happy with my personal experience trying this Gelato crossbreed. I got relief from the physical pain I was experiencing, there was a sense of being held in a warm fuzzy blanket, and I still had the mental capacity to think clearly the whole time. To check out this luxurious Emiratez Gelato for yourself just visit the always lovely No Kids Allowed today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Point Break - Elevated Lounge

Initial Thoughts Sharing the same name as the (original) awesome movie starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, this Point Break strain from DC i-71 dispensary Elevated Lounge has more than enough sativa influence to have you feeling energized. So energized, in fact, that you might be ready to go on some serious adventures. Certainly not the crazed bank robbing type of adventures, but maybe night surfing and sky-diving ones could be in the cards. Appearance Did someone say stars? This batch is fresh and has starry trichomes adorning every nook and cranny of these lime green buds. Status Fresh and funky. Aroma Bursting with citrus. Hints of berries. Flavor Remarkably, this one is as citrusy in flavor as it is in aroma. More sweetness to the taste than smell, however. Lineage Point Break is a sativa-dominant hybrid cross of Tropicanna Cookies and Trophy Wife. Effects This is a vibrant sativa offering that has all the hallmarks of the energizing Tropicanna Cookies cultivar along with the euphoric bliss of the Trophy Wife influence. For me it lacked any of the heart-racing aspects that accompany some sativa-heavy options and it was a great medicator of my digestive ailments. My only issue would be that this harvest was cut down a bit too early and if they had let it go longer the effects would be even more pronounced. Conclusion In the movie they say that "if you want the ultimate (rush) you have to be willing to pay the ultimate price". Well this Point Break is one hell of a rush and it won't even set you back 100 clams. Overall, it's a great option for sativa lovers and it's freshness, flavor, and potency are all on....point.😂🤦‍♂️ So leave your dead presidents masks at home and head to Elevated Lounge in the Glover Park area of DC asap to fill your own coffers with this delightful Point Break bounty. • Blue Zlushie - Cheeba DC

Initial Thoughts This Blue Zlushie from DC i-71 dispensary Cheeba DC is some legit designer flower and a three-way cross of some of my modern day favorites. It's also super trich'd out and has a creamy berry-filled aroma. Can't wait to roll it up! Appearance Lime green with heavy trichomes and lots of purplish-blue flecks. Status Curing, but still has a decently fresh nose. Aroma Creamy, sweet, and fruity like candy. Flavor A vibrant and complex mix of berry, cream, pine, and earth. Lineage Blue Zlushie is a slightly indica-dominant hybrid and a cross of Ice Cream Cake, Grapefruit Zkittles, and Gelato 41. Effects This is what I would call a "daytime indica". It's got all the feels of a heavy indica in terms of body buzz and pain relief, but it doesn't have an overt dose of sedation and won't lay you out. It's the kind of bud that's perfect for meandering with your dog on a long walk (but not in today's frigid temps) or reading in the sunlight of your favorite chair (ideal on a day like today). Conclusion The sweetness of the flavor, the smoothness of the toke, and the jolly uplifting nature of the full-fledged body high are what make this a good choice to relax with this weekend. • Cream - MASC

Initial Thoughts This Cream from DC i-71 storefront MASC (Metropolitan Art & Sculpture Collaboration) has a remarkably creamy aroma and is a super smooth smoke. While we'd like to see it a little more on the fresh side, it clearly possesses some high-end genetics and this is evident in the notable effects. Appearance Green with flecks of violet, especially at the base of the buds. Status Curing, with cloudy grey trichomes. Aroma Creamy with hints of pine and lemon. Flavor Creamy and earthy with hints of musk. Lineage Cream is an indica-dominant cross of Gelato #33 and Wedding cake. Effects From the smoothness of the smoke to the smooth and relaxing vibes it instills, this indica has a glowing euphoria that wrestles all stress from your body. My joints were loose and my head was in the clouds after partaking in a medium-sized joint. After that, all I wanted to do was absorb more of the cozy, rejuvenating effects under some blankets on my couch. It is quite disorienting in a fun and anxiety relieving way, but don't expect to get anything important accomplished or to perform at peak levels of productivity doing pretty much anything. Conclusion If you love a good lazy Saturday and jar full of indica then this strain is gonna check a lot of boxes for you. You can find it right now at the always delightful and warm-hearted MASC storefront. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Oreo Cookie - Top Secret DC

Initial Thoughts: As a child I was addicted to Oreos. Not unlike the joint I'm about to roll, my Oreo fetish began by smelling a freshly opened package that a friend brought to me. I was meticulous about how I ate them, too. I began by carefully separating the halves, which led to savoring the crème center, and then dunking the separated halves into some whole milk. Now, if enjoying this cannabis strain is in any way as amazing an experience as Oreos were to me as a child, then I am in for a real treat! Appearance: Hello giant nugget of goodness!!! This engorged bud was the size of my thumb and covered with peaks and valleys of cannabis perfection. The highly contrasted forest green and light green bracts were wearing sugary trichomes that looked like jewelry. Status: Not too dry. Dense. Well preserved in a state of amazing bag appeal. Aroma: Definitely has an aroma of baked pastry. Spicy chocolatey notes are released from the bud when it is broken apart as well. Flavor: The pastry tastes continue with the smoke. It is a thick cloud with a sugary taste that has an earthy finish. Remarkably, the pastry flavor hits me as soon as I take a draw. Lineage: The Oreo Cookie strain is a hybrid which began life as Cookies and Cream crossed with Secret Weapon. Much of the lineage of these two parents is indica dominant hybridization. Because of this, users can expect to feel more indica-related characteristics when analyzing how it makes them feel. Effects: This strain produces an amazing sensation of euphoria and relaxation. Unlike the sativa dominant strains which may have you on the move and completing mass quantities of tasks, this 70/30 Indica dominance provides a melting state of relaxation which will more than likely have you headed for a couch. While smoking the joint of this, I was immediately hit in the head with a heavy, mind-meltingly cerebral buzz. By the time I finished 2/3 of the spliff, I was already contemplating what position I was going to lay in once I found some horizontal space. Conclusion: At 22-23% THC, this flower is full-bodied in its flavor and its incapacitating stoniness. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to get super ripped indica style - these Oreo Cookies are sure to satisfy in that case. Hit up Top Secret DC today to get some for your own stash. • Zack's Cake by Alt Sol - Takoma Wellness Center (DC Medical)

I've always been a huge fan of Cake profiles, and have practically spoiled myself with them at this point. As much as I love variety, it can be hard not to mix Cake strains with everything and anything simply for their taste alone. As a consultant, hearing a patient say they are looking for "a hybrid with great flavor", is practically music to my ears. Some strains provide smoking experiences so enjoyable that they spoil your palate completely with their sweet and alluring profiles, and this is one of those strains. Now that I mention it, Wedding Cake was one of the first strains that I was always excited to circle back for. It provided relaxation often comparable to some of the best OG's, yet its sweeter smoking experience made it stand out entirely. It's an indica-dominant hybrid so delightful it only makes sense for it to have been crossed so many times. In this instance, Alternative Solutions has crossed Wedding Cake with both Grape Pie and Jungle Cake to create Zack's Cake. Incidentally, Jungle Cake itself is actually a combination of Wedding Cake and a potent White Fire OG phenotype. As a Cake lover nothing excited me more than this strain when I picked it up. However, I was slightly disappointed by the initial nose test. Although it smelled really good, and there was some undeniable sweetness, its smell seemed a bit milder in comparison to other Wedding Cake profiles. As gorgeous as the buds were, the smell it gave off was more comparable to that of sweet baked bread than cake. My partner loved it instantly, as it put her right at a level where she could enjoy her music and clean around the house stress-free without feeling groggy. I, on the other hand, was blown away at how smooth this strain was. Rather than sweetness with a gassy finish, Zack's cake offers an almost chai cinnamon-like exhale that is pleasurable and feels instantly rewarding. I also ran into its mood elevation immediately, especially with how talkative I became. Slowly the relief it provided spread to other areas of my body and left me feeling at ease, yet still present socially. Zack's Cake is a euphoric and blissful experience that makes its way all the way down to your toes, but leaves you in a headspace to create or enjoy time with others if you choose. As you socialize or coast through this elated state you may start to feel more light and at ease before it floats you back down peacefully whenever you choose to rest. To pick-up some of this delicious batch of Alt Sol's Zack's Cake for yourself, just head over to Takoma Wellness Center and we'll get you squared away, right away. • Gunpowder Milkshake - Flower Ave

Initial Thoughts: With a name like Gunpowder Milkshake you know it has to be fire, right? Well, rest-assured that DC i-71 cannabis delivery service, Flower Ave, have come through with some spectacular designer flower that's fresh out of the genetics lab and highly sought after. Appearance: These buds are completely trich'd out and emblazoned with purple, violet, and lime green hues. In a word, they are "aggressive" looking - or so says a quorum of knowledgable nearby stoners. Status: Curing. Aroma: Sour, funky, and creamy with hints of gas, skunk, and pine. Flavor: The flavor is just as incredibly complex as the aroma and similarly sour, creamy, and gassy. The exhale is smooth and exquisite, especially when in blunt form. Lineage: Gunpowder Milkshake is a balanced hybrid cross of Loma Prieta and Apples N Bananas. Effects: While not drowsiness inducing, the effects are incredibly strong and disorienting. You might even call them "staggering". As in, after I pulled a tube I was staggering like I had just been shot. Then the exhale, with its epic flavor and barnstorming cerebral euphoria, came to my rescue and set me down gently in my chair for a few minutes. We're not sure, but we think this one actually runs in the low 30's in terms of THC levels. Very powerful and not for the newbs! Conclusion: This is a connoisseur's smoke indeed. In fact, I'm contemplating rolling up and storing some nice stogies in my humidor with this as the contents. Anyone sparking this is sure to agree that its enchanting flavor is as immense as it is impressive. To get some delivered to your door just give the good florists over at Flower Ave a shout ASAP. • House Blue Z by Evermore - The Living Room (MD Medical)

Initial Thoughts When I picked up this House Blue Z flower sample from The Living Room in Pikesville, MD, I was eager to give it a try mostly because I had never encountered the cultivar before and it sounded both mysterious and intriguing. This was also the first time it had been cultivated at Everymore's facility and we'll have to see if it's going to be a keeper in their garden, or not. It does have a solid lineage and valuable genetic qualities that are sought after, so I can see why they chose to cultivate it. What stood out to me the most about it right off the bat the most were the 3.05% terps it possesses. Hurray terps! Appearance The buds are pale green in color with purple hues scattered throughout almost like little chocolate chips in a cookie. The trichomes still have a nice glisten to them and twinkle in soft light. Structure Mid size, closely packed buds. Status The cure seems to be hurried. I suggest packaging or storing inside an airtight jar, and including a humidity pack if possible, so the flower can regain some substance and steep its aroma. Aroma After improving the cure it began to emit a slightly sweet perfume-like floral aroma, but beforehand it smelled a bit lackluster to be honest. Flavor The overall taste was sweet, earthy, and reminiscent of Evermore's Blue Cookies. There were also slight hints of berry and the floral notes from the aroma. Lineage This is a cross of House Z and Blue Cookies. Effects I thoroughly enjoyed the introspection that this flower afforded me. I felt clear-headed, and level along with a sense of joy amidst a tranquil and euphoric body buzz. Overall, I really enjoyed the calming, cerebral, and creativity inspiring high and I would suggest using this strain to dive deep into a sedentary hobby, outlet, or passion project. Conclusion I have faith that, with a couple more runs of this Blue Z, Evermore will be able to better hone their care of this varietal, perfect the cure, and have an even higher-rating end product on their hands soon. In fact, I can foresee this strain thoroughly impressing people - especially when the cure is on point. You can find it for yourself at many Maryland dispensaries that carry Evermore flower, or just head to The Living Room in Pikesville today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Gumbo - Top Level DC

Initial Thoughts When I think of Gumbo I generally think of the spicy and savory Creole dish with shrimp, sausage, and peppers - I'm a big fan. However, it's important to note that this Gumbo flower from DC i-71 storefront Top Level is actually a nickname for "gumball" instead. As confirmed when first opening the jar, this name is due to its sweet and bubblegum like flavor. 🍬 Appearance Deep purple with lots of frosty trichomes. Status Curing, but many of the trichomes are still white. Aroma Sweet and tangy with hints of something very much like old school Bubblegum. Flavor Sweet, creamy, earthy, and with a touch of tanginess. Lineage Gumbo's genetics are unknown and a closely kept secret, but it's said to run indica-dominant at 65/35. Effects This strain is perfect for a lazy afternoon or evening of rest and relaxation. It will make you want to go horizontal quickly even though its delightfully sweet and complex flavor will keep you hitting it again and again. Couchlock may be unavoidable with this batch, but sometimes it's great to have some cozy, comforting, and sedative vibes if all you aim to do is lay around. Conclusion Indica lovers will be all over this batch as it possesses all the healing and rejuvenating aspects you want to see. Yet, all stoners looking to catch some serious rest and relaxation this weekend should seek this Gumbo flower as well. To add it to your stash just head to Top Level DC ASAP and don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Grandma's Secret Recipe (Delta-8) Peanut Butter Cookies - The Dispensary RVA

Initial Thoughts I always enjoy having alternatives to smoking when I'm on the go and often I rely on edibles to help keep me mellowed out when I know I’m going to be away from home for a while. The main thing that I look for in edibles is consistent dosing and a good clean taste. I prefer the packages that have more pieces and less mg’s per piece because I have a sweet tooth and if I want to indulge in some cookies I’m going to want more than just one. This batch of Peanut Butter Cookies that I was able to grab at The Dispensary RVA in Richmond each contain 25 mg of hemp derived delta-8 THC making them the perfect potency to have more than one for dessert. I mean come on, you can't have just ONE peanut butter cookie with a glass of milk, right? Appearance Baked to a perfect golden brown. I know a fork was used to imprint the top pattern onto each cookie too because that’s how my mother showed me as a kid. Status My biggest complaint about baked goods as edibles is that they're usually brittle and overly crunchy. These cookies are the perfect medium between too gooey and hard - they're just right! Aroma Opening the jar and removing the freshness seal released the familiar smell of peanut butter, strong and fresh, along with a slight hint of cannabis. Frankly, they smelled as delicious as they would if I had just baked them myself. Flavor This recipe is dialed-in with the perfect amount of peanut butter and a sweet ‘n’ salty finish. It's not overpowering in terms of a "weedy" or vegetative taste and the only challenge was not consuming the whole jar at once. Effects My standard dosage for edibles is anywhere from 50-100mg. I figured I’d start in the middle with 75mg before heading out to run some errands. As I sat in the passenger seat on our way to the first destination I noticed my body feeling lighter and lighter. Getting out of the car and walking around town felt like I was gently floating along the sidewalk. They didn’t make me lazy or tired, and I never had an overwhelming heaviness begging me to sleep like a higher dosage of edibles might. Notably, it reduced my urge to use my vape pen, which I brought just in case. Next time, I know I can just leave it at home. Conclusion Having great alternatives, like these hemp-derived delta-8 Peanut Butter Cookies from The Dispensary RVA, is a great option considering the current state of MMJ in Virginia. At present, you can’t get any delta-9 (standard) THC baked goods through Medical dispensaries. This leaves the local recreational CBD retail shops as your only choice for procuring products like these and makes the The Dispensary RVA my go to place. Their staff is super knowledgeable with a friendly and helpful vibe and they're ready assist across all experience levels. Be sure to head in and check them out for yourself and don’t forget to mention that Toker’s Guide sent you!

  • Space Force One Live Resin by Abatin - Takoma Wellness Center

***The following is Entry #9 for the best all around Dab in the DMV area.*** Initial Thoughts Surprisingly I had never heard of Space Force One and I was stoked to find out that it's a sativa dominant varietal. With that name and sativa influence you might say I was extremely eager to "board the plane". ✈️ Appearance Glassy or icy looking and translucent yellow. Status Wet looking, but very hard and extremely sticky. Aroma Earthy, spicy and with hints of skunk. Flavor Much terpier tasting than smelling. Spicy and skunky with an earthy aftertaste and a hint of citrus. Lineage Space Force One is a sativa-dominant cross of Space Force and Vegan Safari strains. Effects This one is mistakenly named because "Space Force One" implies that you'll be within the earth's atmosphere. In reality you'll blast right through to outer space itself. Perhaps Moon Landing would be a better name? It's got a ton of sativa energy, but comes with disorientation and a spaced out effect - shocking I know. You'll not want to have anything that requires concentration on your docket with this one, but running and exercise in general felt calming and pleasurable. Not for the newbs! Conclusion Careful with this one - you don't want to dab-off too hard and get into a funky headspace. Take her low (heat) and slow (small, spread out hits) so that you can truly enjoy the potency and immensely energetic euphoria this batch offers. To pick up some Abatin Space Force One for yourself just head to DC medical cannabis dispensary, Takoma Wellness Center ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
