  • Haupia - Exotic Organics

Initial Thoughts: Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian dessert, made from coconuts and served atop wedding cake to end the night on a sweet note. How fitting a name for this indica-dominant hybrid (available now from Exotic Organics) that will leave you as blissed-out and relaxed as a Honolulu honeymoon. Appearance: Pulling the flower out of the bag, it was difficult to tell much about the color, because these nugs were absolutely covered in trichomes. It was like a coconut had fallen out of a tree and spent an afternoon lounging around on the beach, and now it’s all covered in sand that stuck to the sticky, resinous buds. Except there's no sand, only trichomes and kief! Structure: The buds are spear-shaped and fluffy yet slightly compacted from (proper) storage. Soft and supple they break up easily and make for excellent joint rolling. Status: Curing but with low oxidation levels due to TLC. Aroma: A strong, sweet smell with fresh, earthy notes. Citrusy-fruity notes are present but less dominant. There’s a bit of a vanilla musk on the back end that had me licking my lips with excitement. Flavor: On the inhale, I found the taste of Haupia mild and subtle. I detected a sweet vanilla flavor, cut with a touch of pepper. Lineage: Haupia is a collaborative creation of California-based breeders ShoppingCarts415 and Mount Burnin. It's an indica-dominant cross of Lemon Cherry Gelato and Gelato #41, two strains which themselves are noted for their relaxing effects and decadent flavors. These traits are also very apparent in this offspring. Effects: With one hit, the effects were already coming on strong. It had been a stressful day at a new job. My back was hurting from hours in a cheap office chair and my mind was racing with anxiety. Soon, however, I could feel my back muscles relax as the tension slipped away. My thoughts quieted and calm washed over me. I spent the next few hours absorbed in a video game for the first time in ages. The relaxation of Haupia is paired with a sense of easy focus; there was no being distracted by mundane worries. Conclusion: I really enjoyed this Haupia flower and can't wait to get my hands on it again. Try some for yourself by hitting up the always kind, courteous, and punctual Exotic Organics today. • Remedy - The Garden

Initial Thoughts: When I opened the jar of this Remedy from DC recreational (i-71) storefront, The Garden, the first thing noticed was the brightness of the green buds within followed by their deliciously piney scent. The freshness was clear and, as a fan of buds with Afghani traits, I was immediately psyched to give it a try - not to mention being in need of a "remedy" after the day I had. Appearance: The buds are fresh, bright green, and the hairs are mostly orange. Trichomes are still a bit twinkly. Structure: Round and dense, but with some fluffiness. Crisp on the outside, but spongey and still sticky on the inside. Status: Fresh, but beginning to cure. Aroma: Super piney with notes of sour lemon and musk. Flavor: Similar to the aroma, it was piney, but with more earthiness. Sour notes emerged on the aftertaste as well. Lineage: The Remedy strain is a cross of Cannatonic and Afghani Skunk that runs indica dominant at 75/25. Note that Remedy has typically been bred to carry a higher CBD level with THC limited to around 1%. However, this batch definitely carries a high THC level (probably somewhere in the upper teens or low twenties) and WILL induce psychoactive effects. Effects: Tremendously soothing and calming the indica presence is obvious. The body buzz is astounding and amounts to a pulsing glow of euphoria traveling around my body at random. There's some disorientation and my face and eyes feel heavy in a pleasant way. The cozy sedation and high medicinal value make it a great one for evening use. Conclusion: Overall, the three words that come to mind when considering my experience with this strain are medicated, mellow, and blissful. I was happy that it turned out to be not just CBD-oriented as I happen to like the psychoactive effects of THC and their influence on entourage effect. Yes, this appropriately named Remedy will fit nicely into the indica side of my stashbox and if you're in need of a remedy currently just head to The Garden and grab some for yourself. • Pennywise - High There DC

Initial Thoughts: After learning about this Pennywise strain from DC recreational cannabis delivery service High There DC, I was psyched to give it a try and experience the high CBD content with what are typically more moderate THC levels. Upon opening the bag, I was greeted with a beautiful specimen of a sun grown flower and heavy gas fumes. Appearance: The buds are fresh, but darker green and the hairs are mostly red. Trichomes are still twinkly. Structure: Round, compact, and dense. Crisp and breaks up easily in a flaking manner. Sticky on the inside. Status: Fresh, but beginning to cure. Aroma: Super gassy with notes of pine, sweet cream, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor: Similar to the aroma, it was piney and much like diesel gas fumes, but with more skunk. The sweeter notes emerged on the aftertaste. Lineage: Sharing the same name as the clown from the classic Stephen King novel It, Pennywise is a hybrid cross of Harlequin and Jack the Ripper that runs indica dominant at around 70/30. Effects: Filled with a tremendously soothing sense of calm I felt especially medicated from this batch. There's something to be said about sun grown flower and the seemingly more complete, more inundating entourage effects that it can render. I had not a single ache nor pain to speak of and I would describe my overall disposition as tingly, mellow, and gleeful. Conclusion: I've been nursing a muscle injury in my calf recently and other varietals have mostly failed to effect anything other than my usual ailments. However, this Pennywise was able to address all soreness associated with the healing injury and create a delightful feeling to drift off to sleep with as well. To give Pennywise a try for yourself just hit up High There DC today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Purple Marmalade - No Kids Allowed

Initial Thoughts: With deep rich purple coloration, aside from the fiery orange hairs, this Marmalade from DC recreational (i-71) storefront, No Kids Allowed, reminds me of some excellent batches of Tropicanna Cookies that I've come across in the past. The nose is amazingly citrus and the trichomes were shimmering back at me as soon and I peaked in the bag. Appearance: Purple buds covered with starry trichomes and bright orange hairs. There are flecks of green here and there, but perhaps the most striking part is the contrast between the deeply purple flower and the light tan stems. Structure: Fluffy and light, these pinecone-like buds are crisp and break up easily. Status: Fresh, but beginning to cure. Aroma: Super citrus with hints of sugar. Creamier than a Tangie or Tropicanna, this one is a lot like a creamsicle. Flavor: Similar to the aroma, it's citrus and sweet with tart notes and cream. Very terpy in the aftertaste. Lineage: Purple Marmalade, in this instance, is a balanced to slightly sativa hybrid cross of Tropicanna Cookies and Why U Gelly strains. Effects: Vibrant and energetic but with a glowing body buzz this batch feels like Tropicanna Cookies with slightly more indica influence - thus giving rise to the euphoria and calming aspects. Rolling this in joints and lighting them up across my day made me feel light on my feet, clear-headed, and super relaxed. Conclusion: At times it was as if I had the aroma of orange creamsicles being pumped into my area every few minutes (the intensity of the smell is for real), but I'm a huge fan of the smell and citrusy cannabis flower anyways, so there were no issues. Overall, this is a really nice daytime toke with phenomenal flavor and the ability to induce chill vibes almost instantly. Head to No Kids Allowed in the Eastern Market area of DC today to grab some Marmalade for your own supply. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Super Silver Haze - Elevated Lounge

Jumping quickly to the front of the line for this Thanksgiving week's reviews, this Super Silver Haze from DC recreational (i-71) storefront, Elevated Lounge, is absolutely stunning. The nose alone is one that makes you close your eyes and drift off to your happy place - whatever that may be. 🏝 For me, I seem to always associate this all-time favorite strain of mine with the Holiday Season as that's when I would try to time its harvests for Christmas presents (to myself and others). I guess my thinking was that if you have to sing about sleigh rides and silver bells with family for a few days you might as well have some Super Silver Haze in your stocking to help make...'ehem...good tidings. An award-winning sativa dominant hybrid (80/20) cross of Skunk, Haze, and Northern Lights these buds have a way of putting extra pep in your step, a smirk on your face, and a twinkle in your eye. Fantastic for spawning creativity with an energetic mind induced by its super cerebral high, "SSH" has an energy that washes over you upon first exhale and is one of the most powerful rushes I've felt from any strain ever. It's flavor is usually full of spicy anise and sour citrus, but this batch is extra fruity and tropical. So pungent that it laughs at your attempts to mask its smell, make sure you roll some of this up to get the fullest sense of its flavor potential. We also have to give a shout out here to the cultivators who have produced something spectacular across all measures with the most notable aspects being the size of the starry trichomes and massively oversized nature of the bracts. To grab some Super Silver Haze for your holiday stash just head to Elevated Lounge ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • DS11 by Magnolia Pharms - MASC

Initial Thoughts: The jar comes with an outer cellophane wrap as well as an internal seal, so you know this one is still fresh and ready to rock. Even through the glass the buds are looking quite sexy. Cracking open the jar the whoosh of aroma that meets you is exotic and somehow refreshing. Appearance: With starry trichomes and bright violet against deep green, these buds are both exotic and stellar looking. Structure: Buds are beefy, over-sized, and well-manicured. Crisp and brittle to the touch on the outside, but still somewhat sticky on the inside. Status: Fresh, but just barely beginning to cure. Aroma: Rich and woodsy with a piney, skunky, OG essence. Flavor: Savory, piney, earthy, and much like an exotic Kush. Lineage: An indica-heavy cross of Sensi Star and Sour Diesel, Death Star is known for its heavy, exotic aroma and ability to create an all encompassing sense of euphoric calm. This "11" version is a phenotype that has been backcrossed to maximize ideal traits. Effects: A narcotic and heavily euphoric body high pairs with a mystic sense of bewilderment to bring about utter calm. Stoney in every sense of the word - heavy eyes, cotton-mouth, tingles, loss of motor-function, goofiness, and munchies galore. Users have commented on this strain's ability to help with nausea and insomnia. Conclusion: While we don't know much about Magnolia Pharms (and would like to), this batch of DS11 is definitely worthy of its very nicely packaged jars. You can feel confident in the freshness of the contents and I took note of this fact every time I popped off the cap to roll another delightful joint. • Cookies & Cream - DC Dash

Initial Thoughts: The first whiff lets you know that this is a high caliber batch with a nose that's full of cream and sugar. As you break it up starry trichomes emerge everywhere and, like most Cookies & Cream packs I've had previously, it's lovely for rolling joints. Appearance: Buds are bright green with fiery orange hairs. Outer trichomes are chalky white, but turn starry moving toward the interior. Structure: Buds are cone-shaped and highly dense. Crisp and brittle to the touch. Status: Fresh, but starting to cure. Aroma: Sugary sweet with hints of cream and vanilla along with tangy floral notes. There's also a touch of skunk to the scent. Flavor: Sweet and creamy with a bready, earthy aftertaste. Lineage: An indica dominant hybrid cross of Starfighter and Girl Scout Cookies that took First Place at the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup for Best Hybrid. Effects: A heady high with a slightly energetic euphoria this one is great for late afternoon or lazy mornings, but can also work for nighttime use. Users have commented on this strain's ability to help with anxiety, stress, nausea, depression and muscle spasms. Conclusion: This is a solid batch of Cookies & Cream that tokes smooth and hits like a champ. We like it for its versatility and ability to get the job done at nearly any time of day without sending you face first into the couch. • Purple Octane - Flower Ave

Initial Thoughts: There was nothing on the all-black container that this sample came in other than "Black Canister", which seemed self-evident from appearances. Curiosity piqued, I opened said canister only to be immediately overtaken by the incredibly intense, but awesomely gassy aroma of the total fire that was within. Appearance: Heavy, hyper-white trichomes clustered everywhere. Specimen is mostly white with flecks of aquamarine. Internally trichomes are still starry. Structure: Buds are spear-shaped with moderate density. Mildly crisp but with some sponginess when breaking open. Status: Fresh, but curing is underway. Aroma: Gassy and spicy with floral hints of lavender. Flavor: Gassy, skunky, and savory with hints of cream and tart berries. Lineage: An indica dominant phenotype of the typically more balanced High Octane strain which is the result of crossing Sunset Sherbet with Octane. Effects: Heady and stoney with immense euphoria at onset that dissolves into a soothing state of relaxation and calm. Can cause drowsiness. Users have commented on this strain's ability to help with insomnia, anxiety, stress, and chronic pain. Conclusion: The team is a huge fan of this batch, especially the indica lovers. Really great for a stoning evening session with friends before watching a movie or streaming a show. Just be sure to keep plenty of beverages and some munchies nearby. This one is going at the forefront of the indica side of my stash box. Hit up Flower Ave ASAP to fill your own coffers and don't forget to tell them that Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Apple Jacks - The Treehouse

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, next breakfast if you're in the mood for a wake and bake session that will get your juices flowing, then consider pairing this Apple Jacks from DC recreational cannabis (i-71) storefront, The Treehouse, with your morning spread. An energetic, slightly sativa dominant hybrid, Apple Jacks combines the power of the famous Jack Herer with the potent, pungent, and equally famed White Widow. Here, both of these Cannabis Cup award-winning strains have been selectively bred and crossed to create an immensely strong version of this varietal that is sure to intensify your creativity levels. Opening the glass jar of this flower, a smell like freshly cut apples harvested from the local farm is emitted. The dense yet soft buds were bright green with red hairs all over the place. There's also no shortage of trichomes and handling this flower for only a moment resulted in my fingers becoming resinous magnets for everything I touched next. This strain is one that will allow you to reach an elevated level while still maintaining proper public functionality. I found it to be very uplifting and it had me smiling throughout my entire morning. I also became increasingly talkative and the body high made me feel tingly with a buzz that definitely got my day going strong. Typically coming in at around 20% THC, this cannabinoid rich hybrid certainly falls into the high-test category. The sweet fruity flavor was more than pleasant to my pallet, and I enjoyed the spicy earthy notes that followed. The joint burned slow, even, and had the classic white ash that I look for to ensure a harvest was properly flushed and cured. There was zero harshness on the throat from toking this flower too - smooth as silk in the bong and joint. Much like myself, most users report sensations of happiness and a focused yet relaxed burst of energy from this strain. It's noted for providing relief from stress, depression, ADHD, and even bipolar issues in various online forums as well. In these same online observations the consensus was to save it for daytime use, which I wholeheartedly agree with. Whether you're looking for some energy infused holistic healing, wanting to clean your whole house, or even taking a trip to the moon, Apple Jacks is a great strain to keep in your collection. To grab some for yourself head to The Treehouse in the Foggy Bottom area of DC today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Frosted Cherries - Lucky Chuckie

Frosted Cherries (aka Frosted Cherry Cookies) is an Indica dominant hybrid strain created by crossing Cherry Cookies with The White. Now available from DC recreational (i-71) cannabis delivery service, Lucky Chuckie, this strain is a real crusher. It’s a heavy-hitter that is not for the inexperienced cannabis user. Be careful bringing this one on the Thanksgiving walk with your cousins, unless they are seasoned smokers. You could knock out a weed rookie with this strain. LOL At 28-29% average THC potency, these delicious little nuggets are fast acting and leave the user with a “perma-grin”. Cracking open the package revealed dark olive green nugs with a pink hue mixed in. There was no shortage of orange hairs and thick trichomes were covering all surfaces. The intense skunky, fruity aroma is not to be denied. It really did smell quite a lot like cherries to me. I packed a bong rip and when I did, the heavy cherry smell intensified as I prepared my lungs for a power hit. The exhaled smoke was earthy and piney in my mouth. The smoke was thick and heavy. Before I could even put my bong down, my head started ringing and I felt a wave of euphoria overtake me. This bud was no joke! I wasn’t tired from this specimen, but it did have me horizontal on the couch. Actually, for the first time ever I watched an episode of Real Housewives. That's right, completely zoned out, I became invested in it and captivated by the story line. Frankly, I have this weed to thank for opening my mind up to the possibilities of watching one of my wife’s favorite shows. See, weed really is mind expanding! But, I wonder if it will be as enjoyable next time without the stoney high.🤔 Overall, I give these Frosted Cherries two thumbs up. The smooth smoke mixed with the mega chill headspace were the highlights for me and I feel it's one of the best strains around right now. Lucky Chuckie is ready to serve you up an amazing gift of this fine flower right now. Hit them up for all of your cannabis needs and don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Silky Montana - Exotic Organics

Say hello to my lil' friends! These spectacular Silky Montana buds that is. Originally bred by Mount Burnin' Farms and now available from DC recreational (i-71) cannabis gift delivery service, Exotic Organics, this is the type of exotic designer pack you're going to wanna to tell all your friends about, okay!👌 Looking in the bag and viewing these buds completely dusted with heavy white trichomes is reminiscent of the huge amount of white stuff on Tony Montana's desk, suit, and face near the end of the movie Scarface. Maybe that's how they decided upon the name? You know, one guy's watching the movie and another guy walks in asking, "Hey this new batch of Silky is even more trich'd out than last time, what should we call it?" Serendipitously, the aforementioned scene comes on just at that moment and the name Silky Montana is born. Is this mere speculation, or was it such a destiny-oriented tale that actually occurred? We may never know. What I do know is that, like Tony said, all I have in this world is my balls and my word, and I'm going to give you my word that this batch hits like a champ. Similar to other Silky Gelato's it's super creamy in aroma and flavor, but it's kind of a "skunky cheese" creaminess this time - almost like some Havarti. There are also complex fruity notes like most Gelato's, but these seem more tropical or even Caribbean in nature. You might be hoping that this strain would bring a highly energetic high like Tony when he's peaking and on top of the world. In reality however, this balanced to slightly relaxed hybrid isn't rocket fuel, but the perfect evening party favor to chill out with instead. Yes, you'd be much better off watching the movie while burning this "Silky" than acting out scenes from it. It's likely you'll still feel on top of the world, though, given the immensely euphoric body buzz and delectable flavor. To get your hands on this gangster level Silky Montana and all their other awesome designer packs just hit up Exotic Organics ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Sour Sangria - Buddha Buddy DC

This is not my first time sampling Sour Sangria, but this batch from DC recreational (i-71) cannabis delivery crew, Buddha Buddy, is the best I’ve gotten my hands on. This award-winning sativa (though labelled an indica here) looks, smells, and tastes fantastic while delivering a relaxing, but not overwhelming, stone. Originally cultivated by Maven Genetics, Sour Sangria is a cross between Yuzu Mac and Pandora. The terpene profile is dominated by limonene, caryophyllene, and linalool, lending the flower a fruity, earthy flavor. This might be some of the strongest and sweetest smelling cannabis I’ve ever had the pleasure of sniffing. Opening the bag was like getting kissed by a cloud of fragrance. Citrus notes are the most prominent, but there is a powerful, heavy dankness to this bud as well that wafts up to your nose and settles in comfortably. A deep inhale had me feeling happy and relaxed - and that’s before I even started smoking! The sample I tried was beautiful and colorful, like the fruit floating in a jug of sangria. Lime green buds with flecks of orange hairs and the occasional hint of dark blackberry purple. All of these colors have to be discerned through a generous coating of white trichomes that absolutely coat this flower. Picking up the nug by the stem, I could see bits of kief falling off in a light sprinkling. Sour Sangria has a smooth, tasty smoke on both the inhale and exhale. The limonene helps the sour flavor take the lead, lending this strain its name, while caryophyllene balances out some of those lemony notes with a peppery, earthy spiciness. Although Sour Sangria is a sativa, my experience was very relaxed, which is prob why they ended up labeling it indica. After a particularly stressful day at work, I could physically feel the tension lifting in my back and shoulders as the day’s pains and worries were washed away. My mind, which had been racing with troubles, was quieted for a while. I spent some time just vegetating in my favorite chair and listening to music before getting to some evening chores. Although this strain is relaxing, it is not overwhelming; you won’t find any couch lock or sleepiness here. Just a happy, pleasant, tasty treat. To check out this Sour Sangria for yourself just hit up Buddha Buddy DC today. Don't forget to tell them Toker’s Guide sent you!
