Market: Maryland Recreational

Overall Rating: 9.2/10

Lean: Indica Dominant

Initial Thoughts

Nobody goes into a swamp for the view. You go in for what's living in it, and you go in knowing your boots are not coming back the same color. Garcia Hand Picked's Swampwater Fumez is that kind of trip - a flower so dank, so heavy with fuel and funk, that the name reads less like branding and more like a weather advisory. Testing at 30.2% in this batch, with the hottest lots reported near 38%, this is the deep water of the group. Wade accordingly.

Appearance

Dense, heavy nugs in a dark olive-to-purple range, the colors of the water itself where the light stops reaching. Rust-colored pistils, and a trichome coat thick enough to look wet, which in a swamp is only appropriate. The grind is very sticky, consistent with those mid-30s numbers - plan on cleaning the grinder before you plan on anything else.

Status

This batch tests at 30.2%, with the hottest batches reported near 38%. A note on shopping it: the strain shows up both as standard lots and as small-batch specialty listings, and the two are different animals, so ask which one you're looking at. Verilife, New Market is the lead stop for the Garcia Hand Picked cut. Dispensary Works and Four Green Fields also carry it.

Aroma

The jar opens and the humidity comes out with it. Dank, swampy funk sits under a heavy layer of gas - the fuel is the surface, the funk is what's underneath. Beneath both, sour earth. Grind it and a faint sweet note surfaces, overripe fruit, like something that dropped somewhere back in the cypress and nobody went to get it. No lab terpene data is on current DMV menus for Swampwater Fumez, so this is the reported nose rather than a measured one. The reports all mention the humidity.

Flavor

Gas and sour earth on the inhale. The middle is funky and almost savory - broth more than candy, which is a strange thing to say about flower and the correct thing to say about this one. The exhale is fuel, and it lingers. Fair warning: this one is heavy on the palate and heavy on the throat if you take big pulls. Small pulls. The swamp rewards patience and punishes splashing.

Lineage

Verified: OGKB 2.1 x Candy Fumez, bred by Bloom Seed Co. The Fumez half of the name comes straight from the Candy Fumez parent, which is where the sweet-overripe note and a good deal of the funk originate; OGKB 2.1 brings the density, the resin and the weight of the high. Garcia Hand Picked grows the cultivar in Maryland, and so does Evermore - the two cuts test differently, so a number you saw on one jar won't predict the other. Documented genetics: more than most swamps offer.

Effects

Onset is relaxed, and it does not stay polite for long. Euphoria rolls in behind it, warm and a little swampy itself - a thick, pleased feeling rather than a bright one. Then the heavy arrives, and at 30-plus it arrives like a tide: ankles, knees, then everything. Sleepy closes the night. The plateau is long and low, the landing is a slow sinking rather than a drop, and the morning is better than you'd think. Keep the evening clear. Keep the couch clear, too.

Conclusion

Swampwater Fumez is for the gas devotee, the end-of-night smoker, and the collector who follows Bloom Seed Co. crosses from grower to grower. Not for lunchtime, not for the citrus crowd, and not for anyone paying specialty-lot money without asking what makes the lot special. Garcia Hand Picked has grown something that smells like a place, and the place is not a nice one. That's the recommendation.
