While I've had the Blood Orange varietal from Alternative Solutions (Alt Sol) in their "Bunji Bros" cart form, I hadn't had a chance to check out the actual flower yet. Being a huge fan of Tangie and the associated crossbreeds, I was especially psyched when this new batch dropped just in time for 4/20!
As a unique and exotic Tangie phenotype herself, Blood Orange is a cross of Cali Orange and Appalachia that runs sativa-heavy. Her aroma is sweet and very citrus forward, but it isn't quite ordinary Orange or Tangerine in essence - hence the need to qualify the "blood" aspect. Compared to regular oranges, blood oranges typically taste less acidic, slightly sweeter, and have hints of strawberry or raspberry. I would say that flavor description is pretty spot on in reference to these buds as well.
However, perhaps the most obvious reason to give this special strain its name is the astounding intensity of the red hairs that adorn her. They are, in fact, blood red. It's quite shocking actually. They may be the most red stigmas I've seen on cannabis buds in years.
