  • Lato Pop - Lucky Chuckie

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Lato Pop? Well, there's an owl somewhere that would try to tell you three, but in reality you shouldn't be licking flower, it's meant for smoking (or vaping). Either way, this batch of Lato Pop currently available from DC recreational delivery service, Lucky Chuckie, is one that this kid (me, an adult) would like to have found in their candy bag after trick-or-treating last night. Come to think of it, how come they don't have adult cannabis-oriented trick-or-treating for Halloween? 🤔 The Lato Pop strain, like many exotic designer packs, comes shrouded in mystery and no one, besides the original breeders (in this case Joke's Up - @jokesupexotix), truly knows much about the lineage. What's not a mystery, though, is its astoundingly funky Gelato-like aroma and flavor. Imagine the creamiest, yet gassiest of Gelato's mixed with a tart fruitiness that makes you want to stick your nose in the bag over and over. In terms of effects, think slightly indica-heavy hybrid. There's some energy to the buzz at first, but that soon fades into an incredibly euphoric body high with relaxation written all over it. Couch lock isn't a huge issue, but you'll probably want to reserve this one for late afternoon or evening toking, nonetheless. To get your own Lato Pop licks in just hit up Lucky Chuckie and place your order today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Super Runtz - Luxury Soil DC

Every now and then a strain comes along that checks all the boxes. Taste, aroma, flavor, potency, bag appeal, and the overall experience of the herb. Super Runtz from new DC recreational storefront, Luxury Soil, is just such a strain for me. I've always been a fan of the Runtz varieties, especially when they are balanced to slightly energetic in terms of effects, and this one is right on point. The breeders, Don Merfos, indicate that it's a cross of 41 Cherries and Lemon Cherry Gelato and that there are pheno's running slightly sativa dominant as well as 50/50. I, for one, say it made me feel like Super Man however it leans. The specimen I received was nearly black on the outside and grounded down to a deep and luxurious frosted dark green delight. The buds were covered in a white dusting of trichomes that were the perfect contrast to the deep green and black hues underneath. This is some of the blackest bud I have had in a while, and I was getting fired up to burn it down! The aroma was fruity candy with woody notes you might discover on a fall hike - an exotic and complex profile. The flavor was of tropical citrus with an earthy diesel back and aftertaste. The incredibly smooth inhale and equally as pleasant finish on the exhale sent tingles to my taste buds with every hit. I found the high from bong rips of this to be very euphoric, clear-headed, and focusing for me. I naturally stay high energy, so the added focus had an empowering effect which turned me into a task-oriented guy for the afternoon. As is often the case with energetic hybrids, I became a worker around the house and channeled my inner unpaid employee. With Super Runtz onboard, however, I felt like I could leap tall buildings with a single bound and used my new found "super powers" to tackle my entire honey do list. To see what type of super hero you'll turn into this Halloween just head to Luxury Soil (775 H St NE, Washington, DC) and check out this Super Runtz along with their other awesome designer options. • Lemon Vuitton - District Cannabis (DC & MD Medical)

Lemon Vuitton from DC medical marijuana cultivators, District Cannabis, is a potent hybrid strain with lip smacking taste and intensely uplifting potency. I found it perfect for day time use given the warm energetic glow it produced without any drowsiness. That said, some of my friends felt it was more balanced in our joint session together. Either way we all enjoyed the citrus notes and confirmed it to the "luxury" experience we expected given the "Vuitton" in the name. 👑 It arrived with authentic and certifiable information about the batch that let me know this sample tips the scales at 31.09% THC-A with a manufacture date of 9-12-2022. I think its safe to say that it doesn’t get too much more potent than this batch of herb here in the MD medical cannabis market. That's right folks, even though it's from District Cannabis this strain is available at both Maryland and DC dispensaries currently. A combination of sativa-dominant Lemon Tree and indica-leaning Leopardhead Kush, this Lemon Vuitton is covered in trichromes and possesses a delightfully citrus, sour, and skunky flavor that reminds me very much of a Lemon Haze I grew a while back. The buzz is different and not quite as cerebral or spacey as a Haze, but it's still something that I think sativa fans will appreciate. I also found it to be creativity inspiring. Whether it's the stroke of a brush or the stanzas and bars of a rapper’s composition book, the high beckons to a higher state of self-expression. Overall, this Lemon Vuitton lives up to its high class name and is one varietal that I'll aim to keep stocked in my stash box whenever possible. You can find it at medical dispensaries in Southern Maryland (MD medical patients only) and in Washington DC (full reciprocity for out of state patients plus self-certification), or go here to locate the District Cannabis purveyor near you.

  • Premium Live Hash Rosin - Plantgenix

As I prepared to load up my freshly cleaned e-nail bubbler rig, I reminisced about all the live resin I used to dab a couple years ago. Since then I've been inundated with phenomenal flower and haven't gone looking for (nor been asked to review) too many concentrates, except on rare occasion. Yet, a few days back I was approached by the concentrate wizards over at Plantgenix and they presented me with some live hash rosin that has not only renewed my interest in concentrates, but also made me want to give them a standing ovation. 👏 You see, it's flavor profiles like the ones emanating from these colorful little jars (props on the new packaging btw) that take you aback and make you a bit bewildered that something this delicious could have come from a cannabis bud. Is it the unavoidable salivation that occurs as soon as it crosses your olfactory plane? Or, is it the aftertaste that literally, and with out making much logical sense, makes you want to lick and smack your lips? The answer: it's both! As we provided in our recent review of their also outstanding live hash rosin carts, what makes live hash rosin so great is the quality-driven refinement process which starts with nothing less than exceptionally high quality flower. From the beginning processors focus on preserving the original cannabinoid and terpene profiles of the buds' trichome heads. To do this fresh flower is frozen immediately after harvest in a process called Whole Plant Fresh Frozen (WPFF). This is where the "live" in live hash rosin comes from - the flower is suspended in a "live" state keeping it as fresh as the day it was harvested. When it goes on to be further processed, the buds are washed in filter bags that are designed to separate the trichome heads using various sized screens to further control quality. Ultimately, this is what creates a finished concentrate of the highest purity and richest flavor. This is the process that Plantgenix has perfected and used to create the contents of the jars you see here. Though there are a slew of flavors available on rotation depending on what's being harvested, the ones that I was fortunate enough to try were: Strawpicanna - Made from Tropicanna Cookies F1 crossed with Strawberry Banana. The terps on this came out with a heavy strawberry banana smoothie flavor perfect for connoisseurs that love a strong strawberry profile. This one was just epically delicious and packed a massive, massive cerebral buzz. I found this highly energizing once the euphoria set in and it was awesome for a daytime thrill ride. Garanimals - This is Grape Pie crossed with Animal Cookies and possesses a sweet, grapey, and gassy profile much like drinking high end red wine at a truck stop. The Grape Pie is probably the heavier influence here with the funky, gassy undertones from the Animal Cookies. This buzz was much different and sedative for me with a whirlwind of euphoric disorientation that made me, comically, plunge into my couch and start laughing. So if you're on the search for the highest caliber concentrates around and hoping to achieve tastes and experiences that, until recently, were typically only available on the West Coast, then check out this line of live hash rosin from Plantgenix, now available at many DC recreational storefronts.

  • Devine Runtz - The Gift Givers

Runtz, the now famous cross of Zkittles and Gelato, has been especially prevalent in its many forms here in the DC area recently. However, few versions have been as potent and aromatically delightful as this new hybrid Runtz strain known as Devine Runtz from DC recreational (i-71) delivery service, The Gift Givers. Worthy of its name for flavor alone, perhaps this is a sample of what the angels get at the heavenly dispensaries. 😇 It's aroma is sweet and skunky with candy-like fruity hues. It's also fresh and, in its similarly delectable flavor, seems almost juicy - the terps are flowing strong with this one. Roll it in a joint to get the most tanginess or throw it in the bong and be prepared for a blast of cerebral stoniness. There's even some debate about whether the name stems from the headband-like feeling it can create at initial onset. You know, like a halo? Be warned though: This may lead to pleasant coughs and permanent grins. Compared to other versions of Runtz we've reviewed I'd say that this one is slightly more on the calming side of the energetic spectrum once the high sets in. While being social was no problem, I had little desire to leave my couch, and that's mostly because it felt so enjoyably relaxing. In fact, the euphoric body buzz this batch possesses - the kind that Runtz phenos are typically known for - is one that I would rate in my top 5 of the ~27 batches of Runtz we've reviewed. To experience this divinely delicious specimen of Devine Runtz for yourself just hit up The Gift Givers ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Kashmir Black by Abatin - Takoma Wellness Center

Check out this Kashmir Black from medical cannabis cultivators Abatin DC and currently available at Takoma Wellness Center dispensary. It's a rare indica dominant (70/30) hybrid strain that's the result of OG Kush and Durban Poison crossed with Champagne. With THC levels typically averaging around 30% it packs a highly potent, calming, and euphoria filled buzz perfect for medicating during the evening hours. If you're not familiar with Abatin, they run a state-of-the-art climate controlled greenhouse and manage the broadest most diverse cannabis genetics library in DC. By using sunlight and taking an all-natural, research-driven approach they've been able to produce some of the highest quality and most unique harvests around. The quality of their craft is clearly evident in this Kashmir Black specimen and noticeable from the moment you open the tamper proof seal on its gorgeous jar. A spicy, tangy, and slightly fruity aroma emerges and takes your olfactory senses on a tantalizing ride. Pouring the contents into my hand I notice the light and fluffy, yet crisp nature of the buds along with the solid trichome coverage. Many of these trichomes were still in their "twinkly" phase while others were sizable and white indicating a more cured state than fresh. Nevertheless, the buds were still sticky when breaking them up and they certainly emitted a more effervescent form of their aroma with notes of fresh skunk and pine - much like a classic OG might possess. Rolled up in a joint and sparked, the flavor is very similar to the aroma but with an exotic, hashy aftertaste blending with the pine notes. I also have to note the exceptional smoothness of the smoke, which makes it easy to want to keep toking it - especially when blowing big fluffy rings. Even watching its silky smoke ebb and curl is mesmerizing while under its sedative spell. I suppose there's little doubt why it has the name Kashmir. To add a this super potent and uniquely flavorful Abatin Kashmir Black to the indica section of your stash box just head over to Takoma Wellness Center today. • Midnight Plums - Cheeba DC

Midnight Plums from DC recreational storefront, Cheeba DC, is a hard-hitting slightly sativa dominant (we think) strain whose genetics are usually a tightly held secret. The packaging indicates “Deep In The Bag” and “Run It Up" which are two highly regarded Bay Area cannabis cultivators. A quick click on their IG’s shows just how amazing their flower can be from the photos in their posts. After DM'ing with Run It Up I was psyched when they disclosed to me that Midnight Plums is a cross between Jealousy and Runtz. It's always refreshing to know that there are growers out there who will readily respond to questions from fans on their social media! Ripping Open the dark black and purple logo'd mylar bag revealed highly contrasted bright green and darker emerald nuggets that were wearing orange hairs and sugary trichomes like they were some kind of designer jewelry. The smells that erupted from the bag were reminiscent of a plum that had been somehow tossed into gasoline and then rolled into a bed of pine needles. The aroma was over the top and encompassed the whole room with a rich fuel like punch in the face. When my friend walked in it was so intense that he was...plum surprised. 😯 Known to have THC percentages around 34% and with a total cannabinoid content of over 39%, I just knew I was in for an intoxicating experience. Believe me when I tell you that I was definitely not disappointed by the effects. A few good bong hits had me feeling absolutely amazing - like I could take on the world. The euphoria was plentiful and the buzz was uplifting and almost spiritual. All my problems seemed to melt away and this fine flower was the driving force behind major gains in my stress-free energy levels. The irony of this flower is that it’s called Midnight Plums, but it was an amazing daytime strain for me. I was jamming to some reggae tunes throughout the afternoon and my bong rips were filling the air with blissful, sweet, and skunky scents. Every time I exhaled the aftertaste held elements of shortbread and cake that made me want pack it up again and again. As you can tell I was quite impressed with this batch on a number of different levels, from freshness, flavor and aroma to effects and smoothness. Overall, you could say I give it “Two Plums Up”. 😂 To add some of the most potently chronic herb in DC right now to your collection just head over to Cheeba DC today. • Blue Dream - Elevated Lounge

A sativa-dominant hybrid cross of Blueberry and Haze, Blue Dream is a varietal that, when done right, can be highly impressive in both appearance and effects. In the case of this batch from DC recreational storefront, Elevated Lounge, it's obvious that it was not only exquisitely cultivated, it also comes from some genetics that are superior to other Blue Dream specimens you've likely encountered. We were told that the pheno involved had been selectively bred and backcrossed over time to express higher levels of blue, maximum trichome coverage, and dialed-up terpene levels. The result is buds that are astoundingly aromatic and flavorful with an immensely uplifting, energetic high. In aroma and flavor there are fruity, blueberry-like notes melded with a sweet cheesiness. You could probably have someone do a blindfolded sniff test where you hold up a jar of this Blue Dream and a blueberry cheese danish and it would be difficult to discern which was which. Suffice it to say it's absolutely delicious and, well...dreeeamy. 😂🤦‍♂️ I also happen to be a big proponent of its effects. If you've been following Toker's Guide for a while you probably know that I'm really into Hazes and their crossbreeds, and this batch is no exception. Perfect for a wake and bake session it's got all the uplifting and positive vibes to set you off tackling the day with a cheery disposition. • Grapelato - The Garden DC

What do you get when you combine two rich, tasty indica-leaning hybrids? If you’re starting from Grape Kush and Gelato, the answer is: Grapelato! I recently got to try a sample of this fresh, fruity bud from The Garden, a recreational storefront in DC’s Shaw neighborhood offering I-71 compliant gifts, and it ended up being the perfect accompaniment to a small journey I went on over the weekend. In fact, I enjoyed my Grapelato on a bright and sunny Sunday morning before heading back home from a wedding I attended the night before. Opening up my bag and inhaling, I noticed a rich tapestry of scents. The most notable ones I picked up were citrus and pine, but not much grape, frankly. Not a bad thing, just unexpected from a strain with "grape" in the name. When I handed the sample to my friend Melanie, her face lit up. “It smells wonderful! I could hang this up in my car as an air freshener. It reminds me of how my grandparents would smell when they came home from camping. You know, like a vacation in Vermont or New Hampshire.” After grinding up the buds and taking another smell, Melanie thought for a moment before declaring, “Pomegranate. This weed smells like pomegranate. Or a freshly fallen pinecone, cracked open.” Melanie doesn’t smoke, but she enjoys the bouquet of fine cannabis. So as she pulled us on to the highway, I settled into the passenger seat and enjoyed the heavy, relaxed stone Grapelato brought on. Maybe I was just tired from a long night of partying, but I felt like I was absolutely melting into my seat. The effects were that of a classic indica high (60/40 indica dominant hybrid to be precise) - totally relaxed, cares melting away, and perfectly content staring out the window listening to music as the bucolic rural scenery rolled by. The pine and pomegranate scents translate into a similar taste; fruity, with a bit of earthiness and spice. This strain is lovely to look at as well, with bright greens, dense white trichomes, lots of orange pistils, and the occasional flash of purple putting the “grape” in Grapelato. If you think Grapelato sounds like the right thing to help you relax and unwind, you can pick up a sample for yourself at The Garden in Shaw (1541 New Jersey Ave NW). You can also feel extra good about shopping there too given their support for a number of organizations making a positive impact in the DC community. Stop in to ask them all about it and don’t forget to mention Toker’s Guide sent you!

  • Cheetah Piss - The Gift Givers

When you think of Cheetah Piss, you probably don't immediately start salivating. In fact, I think most people would stand by the statement that cat urine smells awful. Yet, in the cannabis world we can often find examples of strains being named after something that seems juxtaposed with the term "good smelling", but in reality has quite the appealing aroma. Such is the case with this Cheetah Piss from DC recreational delivery service The Gift Givers. It's so piney, sour, and skunky that you almost think it smells bad for split second. Then the cannabis portion of your olfactory senses kicks in and starts celebrating. An evenly balanced hybrid (50/50) cross of Lemonnade, Gelato 42, and London Poundcake, Cheetah Piss isn't going to give you energy to sprint like the fastest land animal, but it does have a very uplifting presence to its highly cerebral buzz. Of course, there's also a strong euphoric body high coupled with it, but this has certainly more of a relaxing than driving nature for me. Regardless, you can consider all my aches and pains eliminated in moments with just a few tokes from this batch of fire. Soft, fresh, sticky, and completely covered in a righteous amount of trichomes the potency and caliber of grow are obvious at first glance. The coloration, replete with deep purples amidst all the fully ripe white resin glands, makes it as gorgeous to the connoisseur as it is intimidating to the novice. Nothing, however, serves as a stronger warning of its immensely intoxicating effects more that its super intense aroma, which is perhaps why it carries a name with it that has so much shock factor. To experience the shockingly intense, but delicious flavor of this Cheetah Piss for yourself just hit up The Gift Givers ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!

  • Purple Runtz - Flower Ave

The first thing I noticed about this batch of Purple Runtz from DC recreational (i-71) delivery service, Flower Ave, was the strikingly loud aroma that hit me as soon as I walked into the room. It was a sweet gassiness with a hint of fruit and was so intense it seemed like a fresh batch of chronic had just been chopped down in the next room. Except, this was just one fat bud of a quarter sitting in a mylar bag on the coffee table. My nose could tell exactly where it was and in what seemed like milliseconds I was about to break some up and roll a "J" when my colleague, thankfully, exclaimed, "Wait! You have to take photos first, there's only one bud!"👋 Disappointed, but trying hard to demonstrate patience, I put down the grinder and walked over to my camera instead. In the brightness of the photo box the purple coloration was even more evident and the trichomes were still starry. Also, as a testament to the freshness, when I did get to break it up it was extremely sticky, even when just trying to get it into the grinder. Gotta love that fresh "sticky-icky"! In flavor there were notes of sour fruit, shortbread, and skunk in varying levels at different parts of the exhale and aftertaste. Though it was rather tenacious to break up, it still burned well and hit smooth. The buzz is one that came immediately to my shoulders and back while seeming to relax my every nerve. It's very chill and relaxing in nature, but I never felt exhaustion and my eyes always seemed bright and clear despite the immense euphoria and stoney body buzz. An evenly balanced hybrid (50/50) cross of Zkittlez and Gelato #33, Purple Runtz is extremely versatile and a spectacular treat to have on hand for any time of day. To grab some for your own stash just hit up the always kind, courteous, and punctual Flower Ave today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
