  • Our Visit w/ Baked DC - Candyland

Thanks so much to the kind people of Baked DC for inviting us to check out some of their new flower this week. We really enjoyed their utmost professionalism, cheery vibe, and wide variety of great flower! Their setup was very spacious and had a dispensary vibe to it with stands and displays for gifts. You'll also find their gifts helpfully color-coded: Purple (Indica), Red (Sativa), and Green (Hybrid). With such a wide variety it was hard to pick which ones to review, but the helping hand of our Baked DC budtender helped narrow things down to six different varietals. This included 1 Indica, 1 Sativa, and 4 hybrids. All seemed like wise selections, but sometimes it's hard to tell through the bag...so we ripped 'em open and got better acquainted! First up is Candyland, a sativa-dominant hybrid that's the offspring of Granddaddy Purps and Bay Platinum Cookies. Right away you can tell the platinum cookie's influence on this strain with clustered trichomes everywhere. The grandaddy purp is also expressed by the occasional tinge of purple on the outer edges of these buds. This batch was expertly grown and well-tended. The nose is earthy and like an exotic herb at first, then delightfully piney with notes of vanilla. When smoked, the exotic herbal flavor can be slightly off-putting, but the piney aftertaste whisks it all away momentarily. When vaped, the sweet/piney flavor is much more pronounced - an ideal way to enjoy this flower. In terms of effects, you'll immediately notice the uplifting nature, but she's not an edgy sativa, just energetic. If you have a to-do list, you should be able to knock it out and maybe even feel good about moving on to do your neighbors to-do list as well. You could also say it's a social and talkative type of strain. Maybe smoke a joint and then walk to the local beer garden? Perhaps wine and paint night with a crowd? You'll have energy and chattiness to spare with this one for sure! Next up: Gelato

  • Gelato - Baked DC

Gelato is a cross of the now famous Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies strains. It is slightly Indica Dominant, so it's a bit better for night time use. Many have also said it's good for pain, inflammation, fatigue, migraines, and muscle spasms. Your's truly enjoyed vaping on this one right after an intense workout - came with a nice body buzz but not too much couch-lock. Examining this batch, the nose is the first thing that stands out. It's quite skunky and woodsy with a slight hint of citrus. Given the cure and lower maturity of both calyxes and trichomes, this one was probably the product of a less attentive commercial grower. But, what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in strength. This strain typically hits 20% THC at the low end of its range and this example is no exception. Breaking it up releases more of the same smell. It's great for a joint or to roll in a blunt, but there are better flavors (IMO) available from Baked DC for vaping. If you're searching for a slightly indica dominant hybrid to try, and you haven't tried Gelato before, it's always a good, high potency strain to go with.

  • Sherbert - Baked DC

We recently had the opportunity to check out Baked DC's batch of Sherbert (aka Sunset Sherbet). This pretty lady is an indica dominant hybrid (85% indica/15% sativa) created by crossing Girl Scout Cookies and Pink Panties. It's great for an evening session, just make sure you don't have anywhere to go and nothing important to do - this one's gonna couch lock you for sure. Oh, you'll probably want to keep your phone nearby to order some delivery too. Hopefully you can make it to your door? JK. Seriously though, this is a strong indica. Expect squinty-ness, red eyes, extreme hunger, bouts of the giggles, and binge watching. In terms of aroma, this batch was very creamy and cookie-esque. These notes are also found in the flavor whether vaped or smoked. The buds themselves are very well structured and the trim job was excellent. Clusters of trichomes saturate fully mature calyxes and the cure was done right as well. Overall, there are many who stand by Sherbert and say it addresses their insomnia, stress, mood swings, and anxiety. If that sounds like you, go ahead and make an appointment with Baked DC and check her out for yourself!

  • *****Gorilla Cookies***** - Green Kings

I don't say it often because it's become so cliche, but this new batch of Gorilla Cookies from Green Kings is top shelf. The strain, a cross of Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies (GSC) and Gorilla Glue #4, is renowned for it's high THC content and euphoric effects. It's nose: spectacular. The perfect mash-up of cookie, sweet, funky, and skunky. Pungent doesn't begin to describe this one's aroma. The taste: I've had GSC that tasted like skunky Thin Mints. This tastes like a skunky Samoa - a very complex flavor profile that leaves your taste buds wanting more. Effects: While this is a sativa-heavy hybrid, it's actually notably relaxing in effect. No couch-lock, but if you wanted to be mellow, you could. If you wanted to go for a run, you could. Pretty much anything you do after indulging, you'll be euphoric and happy doing it. In terms of the buds themselves, they are beefy, heavily trichomated, and cured perfectly. Between the rich blues of the leaves, the lime green buds, and the fiery orange hairs, the contrast in colors is remarkable. This is a truly beautiful specimen. If you haven't checked out Green Kings Photography yet we highly recommend that you do...and do it quickly if you want to get your hands on this exceptional batch of Gorilla Cookies before they're gone!

  • Crystal Coma - Green Kings

Greetings fellow tokers! We're stoked to tell you about this rare sativa heavy hybrid, available as a gift from our friends at Green Kings (greenkingsdc.com). She's just delightful and her name is Crystal Coma. While her lineage is supposedly old school with Skunk #1 and Cheese ancestors, this one certainly packs a new school punch with 26%+ THC. No wonder it was a Cannabis Cup winner back in 2014 (LA edition). This lovely looking flower is fluffy, on the plump side, and covered with what you might say gave her part of her namesake - crystalline trichomes. From the top of the jar, her nose is very cheesy at first, then combines with sweet and skunky undertones. This makes for an especially tasty joint. Like most skunky cheese, we found it also paired well with a dry red wine such as a cabernet. When smoked, an initially strong euphoric buzz eventually transforms into a trance-like state of calm. For seasoned smokers this state isn't debilitating, but one of creative energy in a calm or focused way. There are many who have also spoken of this strain's beneficial effects for anxiety, pain, and PTSD sufferers. This batch has particularly beefy colas. We recommend going for the biggest buds you can to get to the most mature calyxes. It's where you'll find this flower's most complex flavors and aromas. We give Crystal Coma our sativa lover's seal of approval. If that sounds like you, we advise booking an appointment or scheduling a delivery with Green Kings (greenkingsdc.com) right away so you check out Crystal Coma before she's gone! Of course, Green Kings also has a wide variety of other outstanding gifts in the realm of flower, concentrate, and edibles. Keep an eye out for more reviews of their excellent offerings in the near future.

  • Frankenstein - Green Kings

www.greenkingsdc.com From our good friends at Green Kings (greenkingsdc.com) comes: Frankenstein, also known to some users as “Dr.Frankenstein,” is an indica dominant hybrid (80% indica/20% sativa) strain famous among the cannabis community for its insane potency and average THC, that typically ranges from 18-22%, but has been recorded even higher than that. Frankenstein’s genetics are closely guarded by its breeders, but it is thought to be a descendant of OG Kush and several other widely debated strains. “This bud’s effects have been equated to turning you into Dr. Frankenstein’s monster – you’ll be sedated, yet active, with a sense of lethargy and an insane case of the munchies.” This bud’s effects have been equated to turning you into Dr. Frankenstein’s monster – you’ll be sedated, yet active, with a sense of lethargy and an insane case of the munchies. Upon the onset you’ll experience an uplifted euphoria that quickly fades into a relaxed head high with substantial mind relief. As the high continues, you’ll fall into a state of laziness as well as a distant spacey introspection. Because of these effects, Frankenstein is ideal for treating chronic pain, anxiety or stress, arthritis, and appetite loss. This bud has a surprisingly delicious aroma of pungent sweet mango and a taste of sweet citrus with a hint of pungent mango upon exhale. Frankenstein buds have small pebble-shaped dense fluffy neon green nugs that are completely covered with fiery orange hairs and patches of frosty.

  • Dutch Treat - Green Kings

www.greenkingsdc.com From our good friends at Green Kings (greenkingsdc.com): Over the years, Dutch Treat has become an essential strain of the Amsterdam coffee shops. The dense, sticky buds have an intense smell of sweet fruits mixed with pine and eucalyptus trees. The cerebral high comes on quick and leaves consumers feeling uplifted and euphoric while reducing stress and relaxing the mind. Dutch Treat started it's path from B.C. seed breeder Jordan of the Islands. A Master grower in Bellingham WA. brought the seeds over to the US and grew all 10 of them. Word has it that these were some "special" behind the counter seeds that were offered to make up for a previous bad purchase several months before that wasted the growers time. Out of the 10 seeds that were labeled, the #5 plant was cloned and sent out to the local growers in Bellingham that passed it around to "close" friends. “Over the years, Dutch Treat has become an essential strain of the Amsterdam coffee shops. The dense, sticky buds have an intense smell of sweet fruits mixed with pine and eucalyptus trees.” Today it is all over the West Coast including Maui and seems to be growing in popularity due to its heavy yields, easy trimming and rapid growth. Because it is a relatively new strain (4 Years), clubs that have acquired this strain for sale can't seem to keep it in stock as customers often go on a waiting list to get it. There is some confusion as to it's name since there are other older versions of "Dutch Treat" that don't look anything like the #5, nor compare in quality. For this reason, some people have called it Dutch Crunch instead. As to it's crosses, you would have to contact Jordan of the Islands to really get the detailed truth. Seed companies that sell the seeds still classify it as a "short and stalky" plant, but as any experienced grower would tell you, this plant is WAY OUT OF CONTROL, viney, lanky, extremely fast growing and sometimes falls over even before it starts budding. Anyone trying to grow this plant, be ready to tie her down hard and use supports. Many classify Dutch Treat as a heavy Indica punch you in the face High, yet the leaves on the plant are very much Sativa, very skinny, and harvesting goes to at least 8-9 weeks, sometimes more.
