- Black Runtz - Buddha Buddy
These Black Runtz from DC recreational delivery service Buddha Buddy are so black they should probably be awarded a more appropriate name like Midnight. Grind it up and throw it in with another, predominantly green, strain and the contrast is quite striking. Don't be intimidated though, their buzz is mega stoney with a ton of relaxation built, or should I say baked, in. 🥧 It's a cross of Zkittlez and Gelato, just like other Runtz phenotypes, but with tangy, berry notes to go along with a skunky, gassy, more traditional Runtz flavor. In comparison to the very recently reviewed Obama Runtz, which happen to be very fruity, this version is more gassy and diesel forward. It's not sedating like the Obama pheno, but the buzz is highly euphoric and chill in nature - something like 60/40 indica-dominant if I had to guess. Also note the heavy trichome coverage along with their sheer size. As a result, the terps are alive and well here and ready to barrel over your senses the second you open the jar. We do like this one most in the joint as that's where the the complexity of the flavor profile distinguishes itself the most. So hit up Buddha Buddy today and grab some of these delectably stoney Black Runtz for your own stash. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Obama Runtz - DC Dash
Perhaps the most presidential of all Runtz, these Obama Runtz are mega trich'd out and awaiting you at top DC delivery service DC Dash. While other Runtz cuts are more balanced and near 50/50 on the indica/sativa spectrum, this version runs indica-heavy at something like 70/30. If you think you know what a euphoric indica body buzz feels like, one that envelopes your whole body and literally gives you the warm fuzzies, these Obama Runtz will take it to a new level. A cross of Afghani, OG Kush, and Runtz, it's a veritable who's who of legendary indica's plus the hard-hitting new kid on the block. Just make sure you have nothing important going on and you've got all the munchies and cold beverages within reach - you may not want to get up for a while. With a grape-filled skunkyness that can instantly be recognized as Runtz in origin (but with a clear grape skew), you need to roll this up and blow some smoke rings like you know Barry himself would do. Poor Joe Biden would smell it from his window at the White House and say, "Barry!?!? Barry, is that you? It smells like it always used to when you were around." Truth be told we don't know what Obama was burning on when he was in office, but whatever it was I think almost every politician could use a little bit of it right now. So hit up DC Dash today and their motorcade will arrive with the quickness so you can experience these Obama Runts for yourself. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Gas-Chata - The Gift Givers
DC recreational delivery service The Gift Givers has brought some exotic fire once again with this Gas-Chata cut. Its coloration is almost hard to believe with true blue hues and shades of aquamarine all heavily covered in spectacular trichomes and fiery orange hairs. If you're looking for rare and exotic cannabis flower this is it. With a name like Gas-Chata you just know it was some highly-skilled breeder out there who specifically designed this to meet a certain flavor and effect combination. Yes, this is truly "designer" with the inputs being sugary sweet and creamy Horchata crossed with Grape Gasoline - both 50/50 hybrids. The result is a mouthwatering, fruit forward and gas-heavy blast of flavor with every hit along with a balanced but mesmerizing high. In aroma, though, it's a bit more subtle and equates to something like herbal tea with a splash of raspberry. We definitely recommend this one in the bong as it can lead to some immense head rushes and bleary-eyed stoney sessions you may not get from the joint. If it's the exquisite flavor experience you're after, however, go with the joint as some of the nuances are lost in the binger. To get your hands on some Gas-Chata just holler at The Gift Givers and setup your delivery appointment today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Viper - Heady Club DC
Seeking a sativa with some serious "bite" to keep you energized and feeling euphoric? Look no further than this batch of Viper from DC recreational delivery service, Heady Club DC. At something like 95% sativa-heavy this one has all the "venom" you need, and then some. 🐍 A cross of two landrace strains, Burmese and Mexican Blackseed, sativa lovers will know why they bred this one the way they did. The flavor is spicy and sweet with a citrusy lime essence. It's sort of like a spicy jalapeno margarita when you "drink" her out of the bong (this is a metaphor - we do not advocate drinking bong water). Roll her up in a joint, however, and the exotic flavor I just mentioned lends itself to a terrifically rich and exotic smoke. I instantly felt vacation-like tropical vibes coursing through my body along with energy enough to dance and nearly no inhibitions as well. Yes, this Viper "bites" in a very good way across all metrics: aroma, flavor, and effects. We never recommend doing this with real snakes, but if you take a closer look you'll notice that the trichome coverage is thorough and fresh. This, along with the purple hues and intensely red hairs, indicate the quality of this specimen's lineage and cultivator. You may also heed it as a warning of her potency much like the markings of a venomous snake in the wild. To encounter the elusive, powerful, and delectable Viper strain for yourself just hit up Heady Club DC ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Hemp-infused Sunday Seltzer - Crooked Run Fermentation (Sterling, VA)
Each Sunday Seltzer is made with the highest quality hemp and pasteurized juice with no artificial flavors. I mistakenly passed up trying it because I'm not a fan of ginger and that's what they had at first. But, with everyone raving about them, I was really glad when I got to try all of their other flavors - they're SO delicious! I think I assumed it was going to have that bong water taste to it like some others I have tried in the past, but not with Sunday Seltzer. The “Golden Gems” (Lemon) looks and tastes like a regular seltzer with a splash of fresh lemon juice. The “Sweet & Juicy” (Blackberry) reminds me of those trendy fruit fusion water bottles filled with fresh blackberries. I can’t stress enough the FRESH part of that. Lastly, I tried the “Sweet & Juicy” (Passionfruit) flavor and it was just as fresh and delicious. There's no added sugar, just carbonated water, blackberry juice, and the finest broad spectrum hemp extract (20 mg per 12 fl oz). Each can contains 1% juice and has a "best by" date stamped on the bottom of each can to ensure you get a top quality product. This CBD seltzer is also made local to the DMV in Potomac, MD with hemp sourced here in the United States. Sunday Seltzer from Crooked Run Fermentation is the perfect way to get through a shift and still be able to go out and mingle with your friends, or make new ones, minus the alcohol. It can be found at other Local Breweries and Smoke Shops in the DMV area, but a complete list of where it's available will be up soon at sundayseltzer.com. So head over to Crooked Run Fermentation or Sterling Smoke & Vape to grab some Sunday Seltzer and don’t forget to let them know you heard about them from Yoshi at Toker’s Guide. Like and follow to stay up to date on what’s new and good in the medical and recreational cannabis world here in the DMV.
- Ice Cream Cake - Hi There DC
Just to let you know, this Ice Cream Cake from DC recreational delivery service Hi There DC is not an icy cold confection as its name would suggest. Yes, while it is creamy and somehow resembles actual ice cream in aroma and flavor, it will not give you a brain freeze, nor will it make you shiver and go looking for your sweater in an overly air-conditioned room. That said, it could totally pass as dessert given its delectable flavor and aftertaste. A cross of Gelato 33 and Wedding Cake, its flavorful experience should come as no surprise, but did you know that it's an indica-heavy hybrid running something like 75/25 on the indica sativa spectrum? So while it may not cool you down, it can help chill you out with its dramatically calming and meditative indica effects. In fact, I must say, this one was handed to me because I happened to mention how well yoga goes with indicas. While I didn't select it myself, there are no complaints from me - just a thank you for this delicious treat to savor and, of course, review. Can't frown at a sweet batch of bud, gotta roll those blues away - and I do mean roll. Finding a paper and giving this batch a proper home in a coned out "j" is the only way to get the truly fantastic flavor to come out to the fullest extent. My friend called it "old school fluffy" in reference to its structure, and he does have a point. It's rotund, but puffy and sponge-like. I joked that it was almost portly - but my friend protested my descriptor. He said they were beautiful no matter what their weight. (lol...he's one of the good ones, amirite?) Later on, though, he said the weight mattered after all when I tried to trade him some other flower? What's up with that? 😂 Regardless, if you're looking for a mega delicious indica to roll up and chill out on this weekend hit up Hi There DC and grab some of this Ice Cream Cake for your own stash. - Terpadelic - MASC
Back for another strain review and this time, I’m smoking on some chronic nugs cultivated by Terplords and available from DC recreational storefront, The Metropolitan Art and Sculpture Collaboration (MASC). We're not super familiar with Terp Lords, but it seems they're about all things terpene-related, and we like that for sure. I've been checking out their social media and enjoy the nug shots, the bag appeal, and the unique branding that they utilize. I’m a sucker for a kick ass bag and their selections do not disappoint. I know the bag has nothing to do with the overall product, but isn’t it nice when you get a fresh Mylar bag that looks more like a sticker and less like a boring rectangular bag. Their bags have flair. They have class. And let me tell you something, the flower inside is just as funky and flavorful as their packaging. I smoked this herb over a couple different sessions and didn’t have any other flower during that time. I say that specifically because this herb smelled and tasted delicious, and was flavor-packed right down to the end of my joints. I took notice of that. A roach is usually not so desirable to smoke. When you get down to the end, you don’t exactly love it like you did during the first part. But on these occasions, as I was getting down with the Terpadelic, I noticed that the joint tasted just as good at the end as it did at the beginning. The terps remained intact and tasty throughout the burn. And through a piece of glass?? Well look out, because your mouth is gonna be begging for more of this flavor. With a clean piece of glass, you will catch every little funky fruity flavonoid that this flower has to offer. It was a complex smoke, with hints of mango, citrus, melon, and a gassy funkiness that I really enjoyed. The buds were not overly hard, and were well manicured. When I broke them apart, the aromas filled the room and created a potpourri of fruitiness that I could really get used to. The trichomes could be seen throughout the broken bud and the herb grinder was full of a nice lighter greenish blend which had hints of purple and orange throughout. This bud was not harsh at all. The buzz was very energizing and had me PM'ing links for reggae tunes to my friend on vacation in Jamaica. I really enjoyed the contemplative effect that this herb had on me. It was a cerebral buzz with positive vibrations for sure. I tended to all of my plants meticulously while I was on Terpedelic. When I smoked a spliff of some on my back patio at dusk, I took notice of all of the cicadas chirping away in the forest behind my home. My senses were heightened, and although cannabis does not cause me to straight up hallucinate, I could certainly see where the suffix portion of the strain name can be true to its word. I would highly recommend this herb to any smoker who enjoys the Sativa-leaning effects of today’s hybrid flower. I sent a DM to TerpLordsDC to get some info about this elusive variety. As I await more info, I can only speculate about the origins. As a grower, the mystique behind it is piquing my interest, and I look forward to learning more about this exciting and vibrant flower. In the meantime, head to MASC and pick up some of your own, and don’t forget to mention Toker’s Guide when you're there!
- Pineapple Express - Flower Ave
I was recently presented with two solid cola's of Pineapple Express to enjoy from Flower Ave, a recreational delivery service in DC. I've heard good things about this organization, and if this bud sample is in any way a representation of what they offer their clientele, then you will not be disappointed. These golfball-sized “chunkers” are dense and the fragrance coming from the bag is reminiscent of funky fermented fruit with a fuel-like undertone. This particular batch's background is stated as being Skunk crossed with the original Pineapple Express (which is Trainwreck x Hawaiian). Its effects are described as energizing and heady and I wouldn’t disagree in any way - a great day time smoke. In fact, I enjoyed a spliff of this fruity deliciousness on my back patio as the sun rose above the trees and the warmth of the day fell upon my face. The aromas from my herb grinder were powerful, pungent, and seemed blanket everything around me, even the (other) foliage. As I broke it up into workable sections, the intensity of the distinct pineapple terpenes hit my nostrils even more, followed by the kick of overripe citrus. Now, I know when people hear “overripe citrus” in the fragrance description they may be turned off by the offensiveness of it, but let me tell you that in the weirdest way, this is something you can’t stop smelling. The grind from this flower let me know that it was properly cured. A smooth texture remained in my catch basin and the material worked well with my custom 3-D printed cone stuffing device (more on these nifty things soon). The spliff burned smooth, slow, and it never went out, nor was a run to be seen. The white ash from this cone was what I expected to see, and was further confirmation that it was a properly grown, cured, and flushed flower. I burned a solid 2/3 of this spliff while enjoying my morning cup of coffee and, within a couple of good tokes, I immediately began to feel the effects growing in my headspace. As described, this flower was heady and energizing. In fact, my head was so buzzed up I probably took too much notice of the cool breeze that was about to be met with the sun bursting over the rooftops in my community. What a beautiful morning to be enjoying such a fine herb! The joint burned proper and soon I was uplifted and ready to take on the day’s tasks. A day off from work perhaps, but surely my house has work to be done. This is an herb that will make any 420 friendly family happy, as the stimulation to accomplish tasks is most certainly present. The sativa dominant effects are palpable and I would highly recommend this herb to anyone who works from home in a creative capacity. Pro Tip: This fine flower also works wonders in the kitchen. Decarb an 1/8 of this and you will have the makings for some great daytime edibles! This is an artisan herb without a doubt and will certainly bring out the artist in you. If you're on the hunt for a heavy sativa like Pineapple Express then Flower Ave has what you need. Go ahead and connect with them to get some for yourself. - Bubblegum Runtz - The Garden
Bubblegum is a legendary strain from the late 20th century (doesn't that sound super old) that has been blowing minds with its tremendously sweet and sugary flavor - which is much like the actual bubble gum candy - since then. Runtz, conversely, is a relatively recent invention, but one that has taken to near legendary status in certain circles due to its highly complex and exotic flavor. Were these two strains meant for each other, but separated by decades? It's almost like a Bubblegum grandpa met a lovely Runtz lady and bada-boom, this Bubblegum Runtz from DC recreational storefront The Garden was born. However, it's more likely that a crafty and creative cultivator decided that he wanted to cross one of his most flavorful, long-refined Bubblegum specimens with Runtz to see if a new flavor powerhouse resulted. Or, maybe they were just bored and curious? Whatever the case and condition this specimen is quite spectacular and, I have to say, one of the best flavored Runtz crosses I've experienced recently. Typically there's an amalgamation of so many tangy fruity flavors in a skunky wrapper that Runtz kind of confuses my palate. I know I like it, but I can't really pinpoint why from a flavor perspective. In the case of this version, however, there are notes that let you know this is a sugary, bubblegum overlay upon the standard Runtz format for sure. Hello complex exotic palate! They're beginning to ask whether I will say I prefer anything in the bong ever again, to which I say let the summer weather turn to fall and watch how much more I like my bong. In the meantime, roll this up, step outside, and enjoy some warm late summer nighttime air. That's right, best to enjoy this connoisseur's wet dream at night not just because it can make the stars just a little extra starry when you gaze up at them, but also because some seriously comfy couch-lock can occur rapidly. I'll also say that this is probably not one for the newbies. It's not going to be a bad experience, it'll just most likely be one that's highly sedative and mostly asleep. So head to DC storefront The Garden ASAP and grab some of these mesmerizing and delectable Bubblegum Runtz for yourself. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Orange Truffle - The Treehouse DC
It's a really great feeling, for me anyways, when I open up a fresh jar of flower and staring back at me are some pale green, super frosty buds with a massive citrus aroma. I honestly did some fist pumps in the air when I opened this fresh batch of Orange Truffle from newly opened DC recreational storefront The Treehouse. If you haven't had a chance to check out The Treehouse yet, note that it's from the creators of long-time Toker's Guide fan favorite, Buddha Buddy, and has a clean and beautifully designed interior. Located above Lulu's juice and coffee bar in the Foggy Bottom area of Washington DC, it truly has the feeling of a treehouse perched a bit above the sidewalk and bustling pedestrian activity below. Just like Buddha Buddy, they've got high quality flower on hand and in jars ready for connoisseur clientele. Also known as Orange Truffle Soufflé, this is a sativa dominant hybrid cross of Orange Julius and Garlic Butter with a mega orange citrusy aroma and flavor. Note that I felt the effects of this batch were much more balanced than sativa-heavy, however. Nevertheless, it packs quit the heady buzz and the flavor, the flavor, the flavor....yum. 😋 To grab some of this absolutely delectable cut today just head over to The Treehouse ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Acai Berry Gelato - No Kids Allowed
This sativa dominant pheno of Gelato is a cross of Pink Panties and Sunset Sherbert with a whole-lotta flavor and an uber heady buzz to go along with it. It's called Acai Berry Gelato and it's currently available from DC recreational storefront, No Kids Allowed. We're not sure how much longer it'll be around before it's sold out, so better make moves if you want to be rolling up this batch. And we definitely recommend rolling this one versus packing a bong or sparking a bowl - although those are also great options. Personally, I'm just really into: 1). this funky, fruity, creamy flavor, 2). the smoothness of the smoke, and 3). joints in the summertime, presently. Sounding like something you would get at a frozen yogurt shop versus ganja, you guessed it, this one is highly exotic. Originally bred by the famous Bay Area cultivation master, Sherbinskis, it's "#49" on their list of Gelato phenotype creations and, honestly, we like all of them! To give your own palate the experience of this Acai Berry Gelato just head to DC storefront No Kids Allowed ASAP. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Syra - Royale Dankness
Sugary sweet and floral with a side of cream is the best way I think I can encapsulate the very complex aroma of this Syra from DC recreational delivery service Royale Dankness. While its lineage remains a mystery, its mega powerful, slightly sativa-leaning effects do not. When my friend burned some of it he asked what the name was again. Then he asked me to spell it, and I complied. Afterward he looked puzzled and said, "Isn't that, like, He-man's friend from the old cartoon? You know the super hero princess or something? No wonder it's so strong!" While it turns out he was completely wrong on the spelling and the name (She-Ra is the correct spelling for the self-proclaimed "Princess of Power") he was right about the strength of the buzz provided by this super hero of a specimen. With heavy white trichomes across deep purples and bright greens, there was no disguising it for me, even from mere appearances alone. Roll this up and you'll be toking on an effervescent and exotic lime/mint combo that evolves into a creamier, but skunky aftertaste. Then, once the joint kicks in fully, you'll be ready to wield your new found energetic headspace and body buzz to do almost anything - no couch lock here. I'm not saying you should jump on the back of a pet tiger and try to take on the evil villains of the universe or anything like that (you can put the sword down now). I'm just saying you might feel energized enough to tackle some to-do lists. Plus my friend says She-Ra rode a unicorn anyways. To grab some of this Syra for yourself and bring out the inner super hero (or super stoner, at least) in you, just hit up Royale Dankness and place your delivery order today. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
