- Cannahiba Cannagars - Elevated Lounge
I am beyond stoked to present to you, the Cannahiba cannagar line found at Elevated Lounge DC! For those of you who aren’t hip, a cannagar is essentially a cigar style preroll that is truly one of the cannabis connoisseur's preferred flower products. In general they range from 2g to 12g monsters and are anywhere from $100 to $800 depending on the quality and market you find them in. They smoke for hours and offer a truly elevated smoking experience that is not for low tolerance individuals or the faint of heart. But, for the classy toker and experienced connoisseur, there are few things better. There are several styles of cannagar that you will see out there but Cannahiba has elected to take the artisanal path for his product creation and I am ecstatic about the choices he made that put him in the artisan category. First he chose to add wood tips to the end, an extra expense on his part but one that lends itself to a cooler, smoother smoke as well as an easier time smoking it with less waste at the end. Cannagars without tips sometimes mess with the flavor or include a good old fashioned scooby snack with your inhale but with Cannahiba you get nothing but rich, full bodied smoke. Second, he chose to make his product with top shelf flower as well as actually infusing the product to maximize potency. A general rule with cannabis product creation is “fire in, fire out” meaning that you cannot take poor quality flower and turn it into top shelf product; top shelf products come from top shelf flower. Cannahiba is very conscious of this fact as evidenced by the range of premium exotic genetics he used to roll his gars. On top of the excellent flower choices, he also rolled in some sifted hash and oil which really creates a lot of bang for your buck! Like I said, these Cannahibas are not for the low tolerance individual. The last thing I want to note is probably the most important when it comes to judging artisan quality and that is the fact that he wrapped his gars with cannabis fan leaves. This might seem like an obvious thing for someone new to cannagars and just now imagining them for the first time but I assure you, there is a whole range of cigar style products that use all kinds of wraps. But for me, for my money, a cannagar needs to be 100% cannabis derived and utilizing fan leaves as wraps, anything else is just a fat pre roll. Just like the finest cuban cigars use the finest tobacco wrapped in fine tobacco leaf, so too should the cannagar be rolled with the finest cannabis flower wrapped in fine cannabis leaf! All of these factors come together to make Cannahiba one of the only artisanal cannagar producers, not just in DC, but the whole east coast! The taste test confirmed everything I observed in the shop and I’m happy to report that the quality of the experience is as crafty as the production behind it. The cannagar I chose was a Gary Payton flower blended with strain specific sift and complemented with a Gelato shatter that all melds together in a symphonic movement of cannabis excellence. The nose on this gar is unreal and also nuanced in ways you don’t typically get to experience in products that don’t include a cured fan leaf. The use of cannabis fan leaves adds a deeper component to the medley of gassy, floral, and earth notes that makes the aroma and the smoke silkier and smoother on the palate. Every toke is more flavorful than the one before and sitting and toking for 45 mins barely got us halfway through the entire cannagar! I mean the longevity of the experience and the flavor alone are worth the price point but then the high that comes on is such an elevated experience that it is hard to capture in words. The best frame of reference I can give you is if you have ever had high quality hash. High quality hash comes with an extra special....something…. In the high itself. There is something notably different and elevated that comes from a well made hash that you don’t get from just the flower itself. Similarly, a well made artisan cannagar comes with a heady space that one can only really touch by using a cannagar since there is an evolution from just the flower to the cured final product. Somewhere in the process, just like an artisan hash, Cannahiba creates a magic that is unique only to his product. I am so blessed to have been able to try some of his products and I cannot recommend them enough. Artisan cannabis products are extremely rare to find and even rarer to find done well. Cannahiba has earned his artisan moniker by living up to the highest standards DC has to offer and those of you lucky enough to get your hands on one will know exactly how special these products are. If you have the time and curiosity, or if you’re already an avid cannagar enthusiast, make sure to head out to Elevated Lounge in DC which is the exclusive drop spot for Cannahiba Cannagars and let me know what you think of these niche, luxury products!
- Lemon Cherry Gelato - No Kids Allowed
Happy Friday everyone! I can't get enough of this new batch of Lemon Cherry Gelato from DC i-71 storefront No Kids Allowed. It's everything you want in a fresh, funky, and skunky Gelato cut, but with the added tinge of tart and citrus fruit flavors - just as the name implies. In fact, I'd say most of the difference in the Lemon Cherry versus other Gelato pheno's is noticed on the exhale. You can certainly tell it's something a little different when breaking it up, but it's the gassy, tartness turned sweet and creamy that makes me take a pause and say, "Wow" as I blow out a cloud of her smoke. Traditional "Gelato" is a cross of Sunset Sherbet and Girl Scout Cookies, but the Lemon Cherry includes a third, yet-to-be identified strain in the lineage. If I had to guess I would say that strain might the Cookies and Lemonnade collab, Grenadine Cookies. It's flavor profile is quite similar and it would bring in the other side of the Cookies spectrum given that it's a cross of Lemonchello 10 x London Poundcake 75. When I think of the aforementioned "tinge of tart" I can definitely place grenadine (the cocktail mixer) as a possible flavor parallel as well. Her effects are the rich, yet balanced body high that I find especially delightful on weekend, or pretty much any, mornings. Take it with you on a kayak or fishing voyage and you'll find the natural scenery and tranquil sounds that much more enjoyable. Pull a couple tubes before brunch or lunch and you'll still be able to interact socially, but with an amazing buzz and more of a grin than you might have otherwise. In the afternoon, that grin will come back over your face when you realize that, yes, you still have some of the Lemon Cherry in your pocket. Time to roll up again! In sum, you can enjoy this slightly indica-heavy hybrid (60/40) nearly anytime of the day and it'll somehow manage to carry the right, chill, stoney vibe whatever the occasion. Head on over to No Kids Allowed, grab some of this Lemon Cherry Gelato, and have yourself a phenomenal sun-filled fall weekend!
- "50/50" - Buddha Buddy DC
One of our most favorite and consistently reliable DC i-71 services is Buddha Buddy DC. With this latest batch, what they are calling "50/50", the tradition continues. This is the type of "buddha" that makes all the other buds in the room take a back seat as its aroma dominates and permeates everything around you. We're not entirely sure what strain this "50/50" is, but if we had to guess we'd go with Jet Fuel Gelato (JFG). I've seen it pretty frequently out West and we reviewed it not that long ago. If it is JFG then it's an excellent batch of it and it makes sense from aroma, flavor profile, and effects. Regarding effects, even with a name like Jet Fuel in front of it, the typical JFG actually runs 50/50 on the indica/sativa spectrum, which is what I can say about this batch as well. It's very energy inducing at first, but this mellows out into a rich and euphoric OG-like high. If you're like me you'll want to hit it again and again, but consider using the grinder as the stickiness is out of control - a sign of its fresh and highly resinous state. The colors and the contrasting trichomes - I mean look at alllll those amazing trich's! - are a visual representation of just how exotic this cut is. The whites, purples, blues, dark and light oranges, and touches of aquamarine all meld together in a veritable tie-dye tapestry of gorgeous bud. Go ahead and give Buddha Buddy DC a shout ASAP so you can get your hands on this phenomenal specimen - whatever its actual identity - before it's gone! Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Sour Joker and Frosties - Spaced Out DC
With a review title like the above you might think we're a connoisseur of children's breakfast cereal, but I promise, in reality we're talking about some super rare and delectably exotic packs coming out of DC i-71 storefront, Spaced Out DC currently. Check these out: When it comes to Sour Joker, the name says a lot, but not all given the mega citrus forward stance this one takes in terms of aroma and flavor. It took me aback when I broke the seal - boom! In-your-face-CITRUS. But not so much sour like a lime or lemon, more like a fresh tangerine. I love it...and I must say that I love it's sativa-heavy stance as well. A cross of powerhouses Sour Diesel and Amnesia Haze, it typically runs 80/20 and has the ability to give you nonstop energy for hours on end. Pretty great for partying, exercising, dancing, going to a concert - you name it, you'll have a ton of energy to spare. I think there may have been some Tangie or the like in this one's family tree just because it is SO citrus forward, but maybe it's the parental Amnesia Haze pheno? Either way, we are big, big fans of this batch for daytime use! Spaced Out has you well-covered on the indica end of the spectrum right now as well. Feast your eyes on this batch of Frosties. She's an indica dominant hybrid (65%/35%) and her effects go right along with that of the company's name - Spaced Out. Hit this bud and you will be jettisoned from earth and thrust into the heavens while you enjoy one of the most immense body buzzes I can remember in recent memory. Though it's lineage is kept secret, Frosties is likely a fantastic Runtz cut crossed with an OG - perhaps Platinum OG? With some of most trich'ed out beefy buds around, these Frosties burn great in nearly any apparatus and bring a sweet, creamy, and smooth toking vibe with it. The aroma is sugary and the flavor is cream with an earthy, kush-like exotic bend - makes you think of the milk at the end of a bowl of Frosted Flakes. After a long day or night, twist this up and see how far you make it before ending up horizontal on your favorite nap spot. Obviously, we like this one for nighttime and early AM use. If you're looking to climb aboard your own space capsule this weekend there's one sure route to take and that's through the now galactically legendary storefront Spaced Out DC. Hit them up and grab some Sour Jack and Frosties from their top shelf and we'll see you...out there! 🛸😂
- Lava Cake - House of Herbs
Greetings tokers! We've reviewed Lava Cake before, but this is too good of a specimen not to share with you. Trichome coverage is well-known to be heavy on the strain, but this is pretty staggering - kudos to our friends over at DC i-71 storefront House of Herbs for carrying it. She's an indica-leaning cross of Grape Pie and the famous Thin Mint Cookies and, as the name implies, she's some very tasty and highly potent "fire". Her aroma is fresh and fruity with notes of mint and an earthy chocolate-esque aftertaste. My mouth started instantly watering when I opened the pack and I pretty much cast aside many of the other strains that were in the queue for my bong, electing to move this to the forefront and pack it next instead. When magnified, what looked sort of like glaciers of trichomes from further away became patterns of swirling small clusters up close. Note the hues of violet mixed with what seems so dark you could call it midnight blue. Look closer and you'll even see the tiny bright, light green remnants of sugar leaves. Needless to say the colors exhibited make for an exceptionally exotic appearance. Some of the more purple indica's can be on the harsher side of the toking spectrum, but not in this case. Whether lit in bong or rolled in paper the puff is smooth from inhale through exhale, but several seconds later will come the standard tickle that will make even the most experienced tokers choke up a bit. Many find this aspect delightful and representative of flower in it's truly finest form. Maybe I'm old school, but I just see it as a call sign of the "chronic". You know if you hear someone making that unsuccessfully suppressed cough, choke, or even nose squeak after pulling a rip you get that much more excited to hit it yourself - I know I do! So for some fire to fill your empty pipes this weekend head on over to Georgia Ave NW and visit one of DC's best i-71 storefronts, House of Herbs. Don't forget to tell them Toker's Guide sent you!
- Starting Lineup - Elevated Lounge
I’m the kind of person that has to bring something to contribute; so if you invite me to an event you best believe I’m gonna bring some party favors! So when my friend got us tickets to a Nat's game I wanted to bring some nice flowers and edibles to ensure maximum adventure potential was achieved. As usual my friends at Elevated Lounge came through and curated an amazing experience with three different high quality strains and some infused snacks too! The first, Kush Mints, is a hybrid strain from Seed Junky Genetics, crossing Animal Mints with Bubba Kush. The result of these strains gettin’ busy is a high THC strain with a minty taste. Kush Mints is known for its uplifting and happy effects. This potent hybrid tests over 25% THC on average, and after one joint I was feeling fantastic. I always try to try strains from a sober baseline and I was worried that a THC percentage this high might ruin me, but I felt really great and functional. In terms of aroma, she has a piney nose, with lemon-citrus notes and subtle hint of fresh spearmint. I noticed a kushy finish on the back end of my palate but the smoke was nice and smooth and not too earthy for my liking. Overall, this one let me care little about the traffic getting to the game and, once there, we were in a cheery and jovial mood that seemed contagious to those around us. In place of cracker jacks I brought in some of "The OG" Elevated Snack Mix from edible brand Seed and Flower. I just love salty snacks, especially when nicely stoned. I split this tasty treat with my buddy and I think it worked out pretty well because even though the snacks were savory, I slept like a sweet sweet baby that night.🤣 The bag said it was 75mg's THC and the staff told me the product is made with full spectrum shatter, so 37.5mg's of salty full spectrum snacks had me feeling super chill after a long day and even made the ballpark seats feel a bit more cozy than usual. I think this is a perfect snack to split with a friend right down the middle. Never underestimate edibles though my fellow Tokers. I, myself, find anything up to 50mg's is pretty manageable, but beyond that I have to start planning my restorative hibernation. A wise sage once told me, “you can always eat more, but you can’t eat less”. For the seventh inning stretch, we made our way to a secluded spot and vaped on another strain we picked up, Forbidden Ice. Now this is an intriguingly cool name - who names these things anyways?!? Must be a pretty cool job I imagine. For this strain it was probably a lot more simple than it seems. Something like the perfect family story (insert wavy lines)... Forbidden Fruit and Ice were just two lost strains, deep in love who decided it was time to start a family. It wasn't long before they welcomed their first offspring into the world. But, whatever would they name her? (insert your own fairytale-like storyline) Anyhow, we puffed and puffed this Indica dominant hybrid, which was incredibly strong, but made the crucial mistake of not having nearly enough water on hand to quench thirsts, especially after the delicious, but salty, infused snacks. I felt relaxed and stress free, but I was definitely having a ton of trouble getting my tongue to stop sticking to other parts of my mouth. This cottonmouth was forreal! Finding a concession stand I got right in line and was nearly as parched as parchment when I finally got a giant water bottle in hand. I think it was actually glowing, in my mind's eye anyways, when I held it up as a signal of victory over my thirst! Returning to our seats, we discussed what a really great high we both had from this strain and, personally, how much I loved the sweet citrusy palate and it’s subtle earthy notes. The final strain in this tasteful trifecta was the famous Mac 1, and let's just say we needed it. With its 50/50 stance it gave us both the mellow headspace and energy to deal with the masses as we exited the area on foot, heading to a local favorite bar of ours about 7 blocks away. I’ve had Mac 1 many times and generally find myself really enjoying it's balanced effects. Also known as "The MAC," Mac 1 is a hybrid strain that crosses Alien Cookies F2 with Miracle 15. Short for “Miracle Alien Cookies”, Mac 1 is known for its sweet, creamy, yet citrusy palate. If you read any of my other reviews you know I love citrus more than a pirate fighting off scurvy. This one was a sweet and sour, funky, gassy citrus with a wee bit of dirty cheese - and I mean that in the best way possible. Overall it was a great smoke to keep us in a great place while celebrating the Nat's win and for the duration of the night. I encourage you all to visit our good friends at Elevated Lounge soon and let their talented staff help curate the treats for your next stoney DC adventure! If you mention Toker's Guide you’ll get a free gift if it’s your first visit!
- Stoneade, Ready for Lift Off!
The Stoneade company story is one of my favorites in the i-71 space because it epitomizes the start-up dedication and champion work ethic that really sets businesses apart, not just in cannabis, but in all industries. Two lifelong friends, Q and Daryl, came together as adults to fill a wide open niche in a booming industry to start a company that promises to take on Gatorade itself, if and when DC authorities get their proverbial shit together. For now this dynamic duo is absolutely dominating the i-71 drink game with their Stoneade, small batch, made to order, artisanal infused lemonade line which quite honestly is the perfect thing for a heat wave near you. I am super proud to present the fruits of Daryl and Q’s labor because our community deserves a cannabis company like Stoneade who is truly dedicated to bringing quality infused beverage gifts to the DC marketplace. Stoneade came into being shortly before the COVID pandemic took hold and radically altered our lives forever. Initially starting out as a general edible company, they were met with the boom in business that the pandemic ultimately had on the entire cannabis space, coast to coast. Contrary to most businesses in the country, the alcohol and cannabis industries, predictably, experienced a boom on a macro scale for the pure and simple reason that people require their cannabis to get through a lock down. Stoneade was no different and their rapid growth gave them the ability to step back and assess the market more strategically so that they could find a way to really make their mark on the burgeoning i-71 space. Right here is the first aspect of the company that helps them stand out because in a district where most people are worrying just enough to keep their heads above water, Stoneade is thriving and thinking far into the future. This forward thinking led them to strategically evaluate the market and do a fair amount of research and development around filling the niche they ultimately identified as their target for making their mark on the industry. With their shared backgrounds in both the beverage and cannabis industry it seems like a natural inevitability that they would ultimately land on infused cannabis drinks as a niche to fill but the thought process did involve quite a bit of problem solving and market evaluation. They initially gravitated to the edibles market because they very much respect their client’s needs for discretion. Quite a few cannabis users have to mask their cannabis use, even today in a legal market, due to a wide variety of stigma and the downstream consequences therein. The result is that there is a huge need for consumers to access odorless products that still provide them the relief and head space they require so that they don’t disrupt their lifestyles. As loud and proud as I try to be, this is a privilege of having my livelihood tied to the cannabis industry specifically and for many, their ability to support themselves is tied directly to an industry or work environment that is less than cannabis friendly. This is an unfortunate reality of the current political climate around cannabis but the Stoneade team recognized this need early on and dedicated themselves to filling this niche. Beyond providing a very needed service in the industry, the two have great ambitions and nothing but a booming business thus far so they put a lot of time and effort into ultimately specializing in one specific, discreet edible product that they intend to become a major player in. Infused drinks offer customers all of the discretion they require to go about their day, in a wide range of flavor options, with a faster, and thus more schedulable, come up and come down than traditional baked goods. In short, they are not only the perfect accoutrement for the notoriously hot summers of Washington DC, but the perfect option for an on the go lifestyle with needs for discretion. That being said, it is absolutely a delicious product line for anyone who is just enthused about cannabis drinks in general as well. Their background in the drink industry shows in their simple, small batch drinks. Sticking with tried and true infusion methods and a short list of simple, natural ingredients, Daryl and Q quickly developed an infused, small batch lemonade line that includes flavors like passion fruit, black cherry, guava and mango to name a few. These flavors are made to order, with the only non-cannabis ingredients being natural sugar, water, lemons and the respective fruit puree and that's it! Your favorite simple, neighborhood nostalgic lemonade made manifest in this adult cannabis infused lemonade line! For me, to find something so true to a treasured childhood summer treat that also incorporates cannabis is quite frankly amazing. Not only have they filled a niche in the market but they have tapped into a collective childhood nostalgia that we all share and brought it into our beloved cannabis industry. For that alone I think they are worth appreciating but beyond that their drinks speak for themselves. As always, know your tolerance, but whatever your personal biochemical needs may be, they again, are made to order. They currently offer infusions at 75mg, 150mg, and 300mg per bottle but have plans to bring in more dosing SKUs as well as more flavor options. Their most expensive drink is $25/300mg 16oz bottle and at that price point they are fiercely competitive and again, showing their commitment to the community by being as affordable as they can be. I absolutely commend the team's ethics and dedication to their community and their love and care shines through their products and in their customer interactions. Beyond that, their ambition has no limit. We can expect lots of new drink based concoctions and product lines to come out of the Stoneade crew and I am super excited to be able to see them grow and sample the fruits of their growth in real time. Drinks are an increasingly popular cannabis option that is showing rapid growth nationwide. Stoneade is going after that market with a focused drive that at once looks out for their community as well as their long term future. I encourage everyone to carry around an ice cold, discreet and delicious lemonade of your choice to beat this crazy heat and have a wonderful, stoned, day courtesy of Stoneade. Your ticket for lift off!
- Introducing DC Dash - Bubblegum Gelato
If I had to encapsulate DC Dash into a short tag line of my own humorous design, it would be something like: "Get your head stash in a flash?" Or maybe, "Arrives in a flash, then you're stone off your a**!" Either way, they are super quick, their web and overall customer experience is great, and you might say this Bubblegum Gelato of theirs "dashed" all my hopes of doing anything productive after it arrived. It's a cross of the famed indica Blueberry and the now infamous hybrid Gelato, and while they say it runs "slightly"on the indica side of the spectrum (something like 60/40) for me it was more indica heavy. The word that comes to mind, frankly, is "melt"...but in a really, really good way. I suppose that's appropriate given the eponymous dessert. And so I melted. Into the couch, upon my floor, across the hall and onto a lounge chair. It was VERY relaxing and the tingles up and down my spine were quite pronounced. In flavor and aroma, there's the savory and skunky gelato notes that are first present when you open the pack. But, when you break it up there's this mega funky fruitiness that asserts itself. Throw this in your bong and you'll find the exotic and pronounced flavors will seem to engulf your entire body, even feeling as if the smoke is streaming from your ears. Maybe it is - don't hold it in too long! 😂 🤦♂️ It's also interesting to note the intense contrast between the outside and inside of each of the buds I broke open. Like little geodes there were darker hues of purple and green on the outside, but on the inside the greens were neon and the purples were like a fresh Lakers' jersey. Not to mention the crystalline structures of the starry trichomes that twinkled once revealed. We're super stoked to welcome DC Dash to the Toker's Guide fold and if you're looking for that indica-heavy hybrid with an exotic, fruity finish, give them a shout and have some Bubblegum Gelato delivered in a flash!
- Bleu Cheese - Fast Slice DC
So summer is pretty much over my lovely Toker friends!! Have you done your holiday shopping yet?!? 😂 🤦♂️ As we prepare ourselves to transition from complaining about the heat and humidity to complaining about the cold instead, perhaps it's also time to consider filling your stash jar with something a bit better suited for the fall flavor palate. Yes, as we fully emerge into the days of pumpkin spice everything I like to look for more savory, earthy and peppery notes in my cannabis bouquet. Consider this Bleu Cheese from one of our favorite DC i71 establishments, Fast Slice. Every time we grab a slice of "Za" to review from them it's on point, and this Cheese specimen furthers that tradition. Plus, it's got the perfectly pungent funky, fruity, and earthy flavor I'll be enjoying, p.s.l. in hand staring out the window as the leaves change colors. The original Cheese strain was bred in the United Kingdom (am i still allowed to say United Kingdom? Or am I supposed to say Britain now? Please don’t cancel me!). The original Cheese strain from our cousins across the pond was then crossed with a Blueberry strain. So Cheese plus Blueberry equals Blue Cheese. See what they did there? Blue Cheese is an Indica dominant hybrid (typically 80% Indica/20% Sativa). Averaging 20% THC, it has a tendency to make...relaxation a breeze if you please chickadees?!? Sorry I might be a little out of it. Ideal for nighttime use or for Tokers who just need to relax, Blue Cheese blesses us with its gifts of euphoric relaxation and mellow body-high vibes. It's super chill, but not so overwhelming that you’re couch-locked or caught staring at your friends and family deep in thought like a weirdo! JK that never happens, right? So if you want to toke like me this weekend, go grab yourself some funky Blue Cheese from our lovely friends at Fast Slice DC and prepare for some serious R&R. I'll be snuggling up with my dog on the couch with this one in my bubbler for sure!
- Meet District Derp: Pup Art & Cannabis Gifts
Greetings Tokers! We are thrilled to introduce you all to a group we at Tokers Guide find exceptional, intriguing, and highly admirable. They're called District Derp and when it comes to cannabis and their mission, they're not just helping the cause, they're helping many causes! They are women-owned, socially-conscious, and economically operated, but whats more is their artist in residence happens to be a fantastic furry emotional support canine named Sudo. She's an Alaskan Klee Kai to more exact, a breed known for their energy and intelligence, and she creates some absolutely beautiful paintings - I'm getting one for my living room, I think it will look...pawfect! 🤣🤦♂️ With each purchased painting, they're also donating a portion of the proceeds to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization that promotes and facilitates pet adoption in the greater DC, MD, VA region. It's beautiful to see such a gleeful little pup doing her part to help those in need! Founded in 2018, District Derp Art Gallery set out to break the stigmas associated with cannabis and provide a safe and hospitable way to give it to all who partake in Washington, D.C. - the connoisseurs and the casual smokers alike. They are keenly focused on quality, with cleanly sourced and minimally processed ingredients at the forefront. Their flower also undergoes potency, pesticide, and heavy metal inspection (we are big fans and would love to see this implemented by everyone). Naturally, being so intrigued by their novel and ESG-oriented business model, we just had to know if their flower would be as on point as their reputation implied. ...and HUZZAH to our own glee and delight (***jumps up and down with Sudo and other pups***) it definitely was! Their Modified Grapes, a crossbreed of epic varietals GMO and Purple Punch, is what we were handed inside of a pleasantly Derp branded and sealed pack. Even through the window of plastic on the back you could immediately tell that this was something special. Slightly indica dominant at approximately a 60/40 ratio, this fruity flavor packed exotic slice had everyone in my personal toking lair turning their heads and coming in for a closer look. Upon first puff, the fruity notes came immediately forward, but not in a sugary sense. No, the aroma of these "grapes" was much more spicy and earthy like a red wine. Combine that with skunky and piney undertones and you've got the mixings of one awesome "modified" monster hit. If you know GMO well, you're well aware of its innate ability to flat out knock you out. for this reason it's typically a nighttime smoke. However, with the purple punch adding some sativa pick-me-up, this strain lets you enjoy all the joyous indica feels of the cookie's offshoot, without going comatose. Therefore, I'm comfortable saying I could entertain this in the late afternoon or early evening depending on circumstances. Across all the gift specimens that District Derp purveys we can see the quality exuding, even from outside the bag looking in. This company epitomizes the unique blend of passion and creativity we love to see in the DC i71 market. We can't wait to review more of what they have in store, and get our hands on some more awesome pup art! For now, if you're looking for a great bag of relaxing ganja, why not consider the excellence that this thoughtful, forward looking company can bring to your doorstep in form of this Modified Grapes selection. Give District Derp a shout and setup your delivery or pick-up appointment today!
- Crystal Coma - No Kids Allowed
The amazingly delightful crew at No Kids Allowed was able to source one of my favorite genetics as an excellent addition to their gift selection. A rare, sativa-leaning cross of legendary Skunk and Cheese strains, Crystal Coma offers cannabis connoisseurs a unique flavor palette and basket of effects to log in their personal database of experiences. When grinding and smelling this flower, and indeed even taking a dry hit, one gets the super piney notes almost immediately, then the citrus pours over top. This is underscored with some floral notes as well, creating a truly exotic bouquet. Note, however, that where this strain gets its namesake is in reference to her effects. It is after the smoke has lingered a bit and you've waded through the piney forest of flavor that it hits you - why have I been staring at the wall in a fast-paced, heart-racing daydream for the last 5 minutes (or was it longer)? The coma is for real, but it's not sleep-oriented and it's certainly not drowsy. No, this strain comes with the active mind component often present in sativas, especially those with haze lineages. You'll have the energy to think about doing a multitude of activities, but you may just enjoy rifling through all the possibilities in your mind, instead. As my friend succinctly put it: "it induces a super intense, mesmerizing and spellbound state of euphoric mental energy." I think that's spot on. In terms of structure, these buds are fresh, grown indoor, and supple/spongy to the touch just as you'd want them to be. It burns nice and smooth and the ash afterwards, you'll find, is that extremely white kind associated with a well orchestrated flush at the end of cultivation and just before harvest. Again, I want to stress the delightful nature of the No Kids Allowed crew - as I think I will each and every time I review them. The comfort and compassion and genuine joyous positive vibes that flow out of their storefront is palpable and I feel that all NKA flower reviews need to acknowledge this fact. We should all be more attentive to the notion that behind the quality cannabis are quality people who care. NKA achieves a high standard day in and day out and this Crystal Coma is one of many examples of that quality manifesting into the marketplace. They and their team are one of the reasons that we are getting closer and closer to the quality, established industry our community has fought for and deserves. So for a great i71 experience and some of the best weed in the city check out storefront No Kids Allowed. If you're a sativa lover for daytime toking like me, grab some of this Crystal Coma while you're there and add some headspace energy to your Labor Day weekend journeys!
- Infused "Classic" Lemonade - Stoneade
Stoneade’s expansive collection of small batch artisanal lemonade varieties has impressed me both professionally and personally as one of my favorite gifts in the i71 space. I spent some time getting to know the minds behind the brand and really loved getting to know more about their story and their ambitions. Entrepreneurial grit and lifelong friendship are the foundation of the incredibly ambitious and capable duo behind the innovative brand that has captured the drink niche of the i71 marketspace (@officialstoneade on instagram). With over 13 different flavored lemonades offered within their gifting catalogue, you might think it would be challenging to choose which delicious option would be best to showcase and, to a certain degree yes, it was a challenge. A challenge in the sense that I am a lover of delicious things and so many of their options just sound sooo delicious BUT, at the end of the day, these are all flavored lemonades and the niche they have so eloquently tapped into is the niche of the nostalgic classic lemonade brand and so that is what I decided to evaluate; Stoneade's Classic Lemonade. Now this is a bold product development market to step into because we all have our childhood memories of our neighborhood lemonade, made with simple ingredients in a small batch manner, made to fit a local community. The weight of the expectation from our memories of such delicious summertime treats is a big thing to step up to try to satisfy in any type of capacity, let alone in the ever evolving i71 cannabis space. To hit this mark, the Stoneade crew had to at once be able to tap into and trigger our inner nostalgia around such a culturally foundational flavor as well as produce the desired cannabis effects in a consistent manner that is quite honestly difficult to achieve. All of that being said, I have now consumed one of their classic lemonades and am so ecstatic to report that Stoneade has hit their mark on both fronts, truly capturing the quintessential lemonade flavor with a 75mg, 150mg, or in my case, 300mg cannabis kick. Using only fresh squeezed lemons, a home made simple syrup consisting of just water/sugar, and natural purees, Stoneade captures the flavor of our childhood memories in a cool and refreshing way that pushes back the worst of the DC heat index. Such simple ingredients and robust, lingering flavor truly showcases the team’s background in the drink industry, demonstrating the nuances of flavor formulation in a way that stays true to the spirit of a classic American lemonade but can incorporate the often overwhelming flavor that cannabis infusion ingredients tend to bring. Indeed with all edible products, working with the flavor that your infused ingredients carry is a new challenge for chefs and mixologists alike but Stoneade has risen far and above these challenges in their flavor formulation. Again, simple natural ingredients with a variety of cannabis doses is so welcome in the i71 space because it offers us healthier options with more control over our experience than we typically get access to. Stoneade does this and more by taking these maxims still deeper by utilizing made to order batches of their product and same day delivery. They are in fact so natural that they, like all natural high end drinks, have a more limited shelf life due to the natural organic flavoring used and thus catered their production schedule to work directly with the customer in a small batch artisanal manner that doesn’t require them to step into the world of artificial flavors and preservatives. Products will always be available on time and you can always trust that they will be freshly made, custom to your order, and most importantly, deliciously effective. Expect a quicker onset of effects from a drink as compared to a solid edible because the digestion and absorption of liquids is quicker than that of solid food. Feel free to explore the difference in your day when taking a few sips to drinking a whole bottle, but as always, please know your own tolerance. Stoneade takes the time and effort to produce a variety of dose options for you so that you can take more control over your own day. Never forget the age old cannabis rule of taking things “low and slow” and sip on your drink responsibly as you get to know your drink tolerance. Once you’re confident in how many mg’s you need at any given time then Stoneade is ready with a variety of naturally flavored and classic lemonades at a variety of dosing skus that work for you! A big thank you to Stoneade for helping me reconnect with my childhood and get some medicated relief with their small batch, classic infused lemonade. The body high I experienced was exquisite and the convenience of sipping on a cool drink throughout a hot day is unparalleled. Please let me know how Stoneade measures up to your lemonade standards.
